The Queue: Catnap

It's almost the end of a very long weekend. Who wants to take a nap? It's me. I do.
Tfish asked:
What's the deal with that new Lor'themar story?
I mean I guess it's kind of cool that we get some new lore on him considering he has just been sitting around doing nothing for the longest time, but I really don't care about what he was doing in the time span between BC, and the launch of WOTLK now that we're almost 3 expansions away from that time period.
A valid question. I'd agree that it does feel a little odd for blood elves to be the only race that didn't get a "new" story, but In the Shadow of the Sun is important for a different reason -- Blizzard just made a writing contest entry canon. It's very rare for something like that to happen in the industry. Sarah deserves a lot of credit for writing a story so good and so in-universe that Blizzard decided it should be part of WoW canon.
As for Lor'themar, well, who knows? Velen got just the smallest amount of presence in Cataclysm; maybe MoP will hold some new developments for Lor'themar.
Scotepi asked:
QftQ: What ever happened to the epic weapon procs we had in Vanilla and I think BC? There were a few tanking ones that were insane on AoE encounters. There are a few back in Cata but nothing as epic as back in the day.
They're back. Try taking down Deathwing in Raid Finder mode to get your own!
CursedMonk87 asked:
Do you think the Guild level cap is going to be raised in Mists? I haven't heard specific news about it but it would make sense. Some new or improved perks like increased crafting speed or a reduced cooldown on 'Have Group, Will Travel' come to mind. I just hadn't heard any specific news about it.
Yes, Blizzard reps have said that several new guild perks and levels will be coming in MoP. Don't know what the new perks are yet, though. We have a lot of new features coming in MoP that could probably be boosted by guild perks.
Xorthus asked:
Have they given us any indication where Pandaria will be on the world map? I'm betting it will be just South of the Maelstrom. There's a tiny little island there, which I imagine would be the Alliance and Horde's foothold into the new world. It could be the new starting zone for level 85 players, or could be the contested PvP zone (e.g. Tol Barad).
From what we heard at BlizzCon, we know that Pandaria will be south of the Maelstrom, but that's all we know right now. You can't really pinpoint its location based on current maps since, well, it's been invisible for millennia.
Callimaco asked:
Speaking of the WoW TCG, I have a question. I've played other TCGs, and the WoW one has always interested me. Is it possible, if you have a group starting with say the class starter decks, to run the through the different raids and dungeons, downing bosses and collecting loot and have it be like leveling and progressing?
You can start doing cooperative play with Dungeon Decks, which only require Class Starter Decks to play. You can "level up" and gain loot from the Treasure Packs if you so desire. There are three Dungeon Decks available right now: Shadowfang Keep, The Deadmines, and Scarlet Monastery, each with different bosses and events.

Is there a list of all the weapons that ignore enchanting glows? I have a bunch of them, but a list would be nice.

Perhaps you could check out....

If it has it's own glow, it ignores it.
There are a few exceptions to this, both ways. There are a handful which will actually mix glows (the "Lightsaber" swords will do this) and a few that won't show any glow at all. A few of those actually have their own glow, but it's so minor that unless you have graphics at full, you barely see them.

In regards to the question about Lor'themar, whether we're on the expansion or forty expansions later, he's still a part of the lore as any-----distracted by kitten.

It's worth pointing out that Xarantaur was another sort of "player created lore" sanctioned by Blizzard (although not to the degree of the Lor'themar story I think).

South of the Maelstrom, eh? I had assumed it was on the "other side of the world," that there was a hemisphere we don't see on our maps. Though come to think of the globe you see in Ulduar would suggest otherwise.
Trent Jan 29th 2012 4:20PM
While the map in Ulduar suggests otherwise, it's always been my impression that Azeroth is flat, and that Deepholm itself is meant to be the "underneath" of Azeroth. Obviously that makes no logical sense, but then it is fantasy, after all.
Noyou Jan 29th 2012 5:29PM
I dug around for the article from blizzcon yesterday. One of the Blizzard developers said it was south of the maelstrom directly opposite of Northrend. He then joked that they should have called it Southrend. I must have worded my answer bad for Sacco not to use it :(
Zaengor Jan 29th 2012 5:35PM
I too had assumed it would be around the other side of the world. I have no idea where it was (WoWwiki or perhaps on WoW Insider actually) but I vaguely remember reading that our WoW map only showed us one hemisphere, so I had really hoped Mists would be a stepping stone to opening up more of the world to us in later expansions. There's only so many more islands/zones we can fit in between Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, right?
Arrohon Jan 29th 2012 4:09PM
Pandaria is pretty much Southrend (along with the warm weather that southern Azeroth tends to get).
Nyold Jan 29th 2012 7:45PM
This.
does anyone notice that there's almost no snow / tundra / cold region in the southern tip of Eastern Kingdoms or Kalimdor? My guess is that both continents are ABOVE the equator. If Pandaria is below that equator, it would make sense that it's so huge, since it doesn't have to "fit" in any of the existing map.
Ostentaneous Jan 29th 2012 8:23PM
Maybe Azeroth is tilted 90 degrees on it's axis.
SaintStryfe Jan 29th 2012 8:39PM
presumably, Azeroth has an axial tilt like earth - think about Cape Town, South Africa (33.5 degrees S latitude) v. the Kashmir (33.5 degrees North Latitude). The south has less land (each contentment tends to taper toward the bottom - see Africa, South America, IRL, Uldum and Stranglethorn in Azeroth). Less land = more water = warmer temperatures because water tends to store heat and move heat.
Arrohon Jan 29th 2012 10:03PM
Azeroth isn't in our universe, and doesn't have to follow the same laws of science (Shape-shifting dragons say Hello).
Amaxe Jan 29th 2012 10:53PM
"Pandaria is pretty much Southrend (along with the warm weather that southern Azeroth tends to get)."
I misread that as "the warm water" and had a disturbing mental image of pandaren standing waist deep in water with a slightly strained look.
Going to clorox my brain out now.

Q4tQ: In raid finder, gear occasionally stays on the boss until the person who won it loots it manually. Why is this?
steve Jan 29th 2012 4:56PM
This has happened to me. I won the roll and didn't get the loot, so I submitted a ticket. After the raid was over I went back to the boss and found it sitting on his body and I picked it up. I updated my ticket, but Blizzard still responded to my ticket to tell me this happens if you are no longer in the same zone as the boss when the loot is distributed.
LynMars Jan 29th 2012 5:46PM
People hit their /roll button and then quickly drop group before it finishes choosing a winner. The loot doesn't always follow them back to their home server. It's just too darn hard to wait a few seconds, y'know. This is what I most commonly see, anyway.
This thing did happen to my roommate however, where she saw she won the roll and *then* dropped group/left dungeon, but the item still didn't auto-loot to her bags after she had won and she couldn't get back in. That was weeks ago, however.
