South of the Maelstrom, eh? I had assumed it was on the "other side of the world," that there was a hemisphere we don't see on our maps. Though come to think of the globe you see in Ulduar would suggest otherwise.

While the map in Ulduar suggests otherwise, it's always been my impression that Azeroth is flat, and that Deepholm itself is meant to be the "underneath" of Azeroth. Obviously that makes no logical sense, but then it is fantasy, after all.

I dug around for the article from blizzcon yesterday. One of the Blizzard developers said it was south of the maelstrom directly opposite of Northrend. He then joked that they should have called it Southrend. I must have worded my answer bad for Sacco not to use it :(

I too had assumed it would be around the other side of the world. I have no idea where it was (WoWwiki or perhaps on WoW Insider actually) but I vaguely remember reading that our WoW map only showed us one hemisphere, so I had really hoped Mists would be a stepping stone to opening up more of the world to us in later expansions. There's only so many more islands/zones we can fit in between Kalimdor and the Eastern Kingdoms, right?
