After reading the article I just realized that reforging is really just a gold sink for raiders and high end players. I imagine the average joe player doesn't do much reforging or consult outside websites for maximizing their reforging and I bet Blizzard is okay with that.

While the "ahem, you WILL optimize for the sake of *my* LFD time efficiency" crowd will no doubt downvote the crap out of you, I wholeheartedly agree with you.I reforge, but I refuse to give a damn about stat caps that aren't spelled out by the default UI (hit/expertise), and unless you are a bleeding edge raider, I think that's more than enough "give-a-damn" for any degree of content. Anyone wanting more precision than that can foot the bill for those they demand it of, as far as I see it.

I have reforged plenty. I am not a raider. I don't really even run dungeons all that much. I still want to play my spec to the best I can.

That's very much true.Having to reforge 10 pieces of gear manually sucks though. Many addons already provide that option for you. Hope Blizzard builds it into Reforging sometime soon.

I'm not a raider, but I do reforge all my gear. I know what my optimal stats are for each spec and I just eyeball it for DPS. "Oh I need more hit, I'll reforge my crappiest green stats to hit. I need less hit, woohoo, I can reforge some off for crit/mast/haste." Sometimes I end up over the hit cap by half a percent or more but I'm okay with that when the alternative is under.Reforging as a tank is easy: everything goes to mastery (until block cap if you're plate). I'm even going mastery heavy on my bear and love the flexibility for cat that it gives (with minimal survivability loss). The only one I use a website for is my resto druid because lol haste plateaus :(

I don't always enchant all of my alts, but I make sure I reforge all my alts. It's pathetically easy with ReforgeLite, and everyone should get it.

I think this is part of the issue that makes it very difficult for Blizzard to solve for. You'd think that re-forging really is just something for high end raiders to worry about. However, there's a whole slew of people whose approach to the game is based on simply copying what the high-end players are doing. In this case, it's min-maxing via reforging. Although the real impact of these changes is nominal and really not important if you're not working on the hardest stuff in the game, there are people who will do it anyway. If Ask Mr. Robot says to reforge every piece of gear to gain just a few more points of haste or mastery, it's this group who will do it.How can Blizzard solve for something when the simplest answer is for the player not to use it?Personally, I am not doing anything more involved than Raid Finder right now. I still spend time at the reforger and I might lament a new piece of gear that causes a substantial change to my hit rating, but I have long since resigned myself to the fact that many of the potential changes I could make are simply not meaningful enough to warrent doing. I'll reforge to hit cap and I will also reforge to get rid of my worst stat (as a Fire mage it's Mastery), but I am not willing to reforge more valuable stats in effort to squeeze out a few more points of ratintg.

Why would you not reforge? I mean, its far cheaper then gemming or enchanting (Unless you have those professions) and doesn't require you to find anyone or anything except the NPC.On top of that the lower gear which you may feel you'll replace soon and not need to enchant/gem is (generally) cheaper to reforge then the gear then the gear you would.

I am a player that primarily does dungeons and Raid Finder. I'll PuG a few Dragon Soul bosses once every couple of weeks if I have the time. All-in-all I'd say I'm a fairly casual player.I reforge all the time as soon as I get a new piece of gear. I love the numbers game. I'll sit with pen and paper at my computer for an hour or more at a time trying to optimize my gear. Why? Because I'm a tank and we love doing things that would endlessly frustrate and/or bore normal people. Come to think of it, us tanks are kind of like the accountants of Warcraft, haha.I realize this probably makes me atypical, but just wanted to throw my non-raider 2 cents out there.

"Why would you not reforge?"Maybe because Blizz said that by cutting so many secondary stats in the run up to Cata it would now be so much easier to know which stats we really needed to emphasize, and yet they obviously failed because we still need 3rd party websites to tell us which stats we should be gemming or reforging toward. So they didn't cut anywhere near enough, yet expect us to reforge to make up for their mistakes. Sorry, I still not willing to buy red gems, so I won't be dropping any gold to reforge something that might be replaced in a week or two.
