I'm going to go out on a limb here, and say that I loved healing in BC, I loved healing in Wrath, and I still love healing in Cata.
The heals that I cast change from expansion to expansion, the way I heal changes (no more /stop casting greater heal rank 2, no more shield and flash heal spam, ala wrath.. I am sure in Mists of Pandaria I will say, rip spamming POH on the raid, POM on CD while using GH, Penance and shields on rapture proc on the tank + off tank ..
The whole "mana should matter" argument is silly to me. Mana still matters on death wing .. it matters on ultraxion if your dps is slow, and the fight stretches on too long. It matters on a lot of different fights in DS. Does it matter ever single fight? Well no, if by matter you mean starved for mana.
But my mana never stops mattering, as it is the driving force between how many shields I use, maintaing rapture ...avoiding excessive use of flash heal .. these are all choices I make based on mana.
The very nature of the AOE spam environment means I am never more conscious of my mana cool downs.. and am using them constantly to sustain the high throughput required to sustain the raid.
Mana still matters. It just doesn't matter in that "I'm so afraid to cast a spell, so I constantly stop cast, instead of you know, actually casting a spell" way. And frankly, I'm glad cause that model was terrible.
