In regards to the "favorite racial leader" question I think I have to agree with Sacco and say Velen. Reiterating what he said, he hasn't done much but when he does it's huge. Plus he's awesome and although I'm a Hordie I find it nearly impossible to hate the Draenei. Love them. Too bad they chose the wrong side..

On plot, death, and resurrection:
I always treated the player's ability to "cheat death" as a pure gaming abstraction. I treat a non-wipe scenario as the players that "died" were just so hurt they were out of the fight, and required out-of-combat attention to revive. I treat wipe scenarios as "this didn't happen, let's try this again."
This allows the player characters to "die" all day and night, but plot characters die when they are supposed to.

I take it as the NPC not clicking the button to accept the res. I like yours too, though.

I see it as more of a "choice". Most civilians are in a better place, and don't want to go through the pain of dying again. Someone like Cairne, who died many times during Alliance raids, chose to come back each of those times. However, when he is betrayed by Garrosh (via Magatha) and his strongest ally has left him (Thrall goes to Outland) he just doesn't WANT to come back, so he doesn't hit the button. The player keeps on hitting the button because that's what is in their psyche (sp?).

I've always liked LOTRO's take on 'death' in games. You're not dead, you've been defeated and you cannot continue the battle until you've had some rest or one of your teammates encourages you to fight on.
Though that being said, ressurection is a thing in Warcraft and it IS used on people who are apparently dead. So the way I see that is that if it's a person's time to pass on, they do and can no longer be resurrected. Most adventurers have not reached their time so their souls continue to wait for that rez.

I'm glad Blizzard made Cataclysm more difficult and lost subscribers because of it--simply because now, whenever anyone who works on an MMO gets the bright idea of listening to the people who want to make things more difficult, the evidence of what happened will be staring them square in the face.
The lesson has been learned, and it will not be forgotten for a while.
