As per normal with blizzard this xpac, the gearing setup was complete overkill. Blizzard could do nothing in moderation in cata. Do you remember 1800 honor points for tb wins? Overkill. Nerfs? Often overkill. Making heroics harder and longer (queue michael scott) with only blues for rewards, total overkill.
If they made heroics more difficult but provided nice rewards for your time and effort, that would have been great. Or, if they made them easier with the same blue rewards, also fine. But making them more complicated and providing weaker rewards was too much.

What you're implying is either:
1. That the entry heroics at Cata launch should have offered gear on par with the raids they're meant to prepare you for.
2. That the heroics should be more difficult than the previous tier to compensate for the higher quality gear.
In a game where heroics and raids are actually on par for difficulty, I agree with #1. #2 would just stratify content so people would be stuck somewhere before current tier and unable to see the current stuff.

Heroic dungeons and raids WERE on par with each other a year ago, but the dungeons awarded crappier loot based on the time and corpseruns required.
Why beat your head into a wall for 2 hours to complete a single heroic just to get a blue that won't really help you all that much?
Why, I think I might just /quit, which is what many of us did.
