Mists of Pandaria news coming in March with press sneak peek

As Nethaera posted, information is coming, and we now have a date. This feels like Blizzard's taking a page from the Apple book. Pressers and hype events like these work incredibly well for a company like Blizzard that is very much an Apple of its industry. By calling its own press conferences, conventions, and press trips rather than announcing information amongst the rest of the gaming industry at conventions like PAX, the message is much more focused and clear -- the cacophony is removed. I'm excited to know when new information will be available. Of course, I'd rather have the information, but a day to hope for is better than nothing. It's gonna get busy in March.

Is there going to be any updates coming in the next 10 months in the way of MOP articles or anything like that?
Any dev interviews or previews or videos or anything?
Or is there perhaps a big content patch on the way soon?
My sub is about to expire and I just want to know if theres any new articles coming to the site or content coming to the game - or if I should just let my sub expire until the next expansion.
Thanks for your time.

Yes. (Information wise.) We have more planned for the near future in regard to Mists of Pandaria information. We are in the process of contacting media about an event we have planned for March. We posted the following on Facebook-
A Break in the Mists: Alert the Press!
Since the announcement of World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria at BlizzCon 2011, we've been hard at work on all of the new game features, environments, dungeons, and other content that awaits adventurers. Today, we're inviting members of the press worldwide to get an updated sneak peek and some hands-on time with the latest version of World of Warcraft's fourth expansion at an event taking place March 13 - 15.
If you want to know more about what lies hidden within the mists of Pandaria, wait for the season's end....
You can bet that there will be plenty of coverage by the media and fansites plus we'll also have our own releases we are planning to do as well that will get everyone more in the know of our plans and development of Mists of Pandaria.
*Updated to make it clear that the "Yes" is in reference to more information being on its way in regard to Mists of Pandaria.
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is the next expansion, raising the level cap to 90, introducing a brand new talent system, and bringing forth the long-lost pandaren race to both Horde and Alliance. Check out the trailer and follow us for all the latest MoP news!

It seems so far away!
At least I know what I am waiting for now.

It may be further then you think. With Heart of the Swarm press tour we had articles about a month after the tour itself.

March is also when SWTOR releases its next major patch. That could be why Blizz is waiting til then.

This doesn't bode well for a summer release, in my humble opinion.

Blizzard keeps repeating this mantra that they want to put content out faster, but so far we have yet to see evidence of that. Seems like they won't break the chain with MoP either, but who honestly believed in that? The last information about MoP came at Blizzcon in October and now, three months later we are told to wait another 1,5 months for some new information. Unless they are ready to unveil that they are pretty much done and going into beta in April or May the summer release just isn't happening, maybe not even an autumn release.

No, but I am not sure a summer release was ever in the works. I do remember reading that they wanted to get content out, "Faster". There was some talk of them wanting to get it out in Q2 of their fiscal year. Clearly, that may be a bit of a stretch. I think, if they thought they could get it out in may or early June, they would go for it. Not sure how big of a deal it would be to drop it in July or August would be, since a good chunk of people do more outside during those times. Ultimately, it will come out, "when it is done". I think this will be sometime between late August and early October. Really, that is just my gut feeling.

IMO, a summer release would be disappointing for Blizz (sales-wise). Every summer, raiding slows to a crawl as players take breaks, go outside, on vacation, etc...
murmaiderxx Feb 1st 2012 9:28PM
Do we smell a Sunwell/Ruby Sanctum raid coming then?
jealouspirate Feb 1st 2012 9:53PM
I don't know why anyone was expecting a summer release anyway. Blizzard has never been able to meet that schedule before.
Unexplained Bacon Feb 1st 2012 11:18PM
I disagree. I think a summer launch could easily still happen. Beta could start late march, run for three months, Blizz makes final tweaks in July, RTM in early August, with a late August launch.
Bam.
Pyromelter Feb 1st 2012 11:46PM
To those commenting that a summer release would be bad because they don't meet deadlines or because it's a bad time to release a game, I raise you a StarCraft 2: Wings of LIberty. Release date: July 27, 2010.
Saeadame Feb 2nd 2012 12:14AM
I'm personally crossing my fingers for an autumn release... I'm going to be traveling for about 4 months in the summer and so if Mists drops in August or something I won't be able to play =(.
Noyou Feb 2nd 2012 12:50AM
I can't really say if summer would be bad or not. I don't have their sub numbers or activity reports. It just seems in theory, it would not be as good as when people are inside more. I'm sure they will roll it out as soon as they can. After all, 500k new subs is 500k new subs (or whatever numbers they would pull).

Unless this is the announcement of the beta starting.... ya never know

March never felt so far away...

The first day of Spring is March 20. That is also a Tuesday. I predict MoP beta starts March 20th, the week after the press event.

One of the first big things to come from this I'm betting, Monk gains Auto-Attack skill.
Arrohon Feb 1st 2012 9:37PM
If Bioware can pull it off, why can't Blizzard? It's a good idea, and it's almost certainly going to stick.
Matthew Feb 20th 2012 5:16PM
I think that to conceptualized no auto attack, pretend you're a mage or a boomkin or a caster fighting at close range.
we caster have no auto attack (no that's not a wand in my pocket) so it's not a hard change for us.

I ALWAYS said it:
Diablo 3 will only be released when MOP can be released as a Beta (a few weeks later).
Blizzard is AFRAID of losing too many WOW subs to D3 and so they want the 2 games go hand in hand (RMAH in D3 as a sponsored BattleNet play for WOW).
Around this time (end of March) D3 will be released so they want to have a HUGE WOW campaign started at the same time.
MOP Beta will start just a few weeks after Diablo 3 launch.
I still think D3 will launch at the end of March with a MOP Beta coming behind it..
In this respect the press invites will come handy to promote MOP a few weeks earlier.
They did the exact same with SC2 (launching at the end of July) and followed a few weeks later with the CATA Beta launch.
Blizzard has a real challenge at hand: how to not loose too many lucrative subs because of the D3 game (RMAH is still a gamble). If all goes well, they have a BOMB in revenue (both games promoting each other), but if anything goes wrong, Blizzard could blow up one game with another less profitable one.
The aim is clear: combine WOW and Diablo 3 players on BattleNet to bridge the gap to Titan. That bridge needs to hold out until 2015.
I think they can pull it off (they can always resort to WOW going Free to play with an adapted RMAH).
