Retribution paladin DPS broken after realm restarts [Updated]

The bug appears to be related to Seal of Truth, as it's dealing over 60% of the affected ret paladins' damage, vastly dwarfing all other sources. The bug seems to be affecting PvP and PvE, as there are many reports of retribution paladins being nigh unstoppable in Battlegrounds tonight. One group of retribution paladins toppled Lord Rhyolith in under 15 seconds.
There has been no official word from Blizzard just yet on these developments, although we can be sure that there will be a change deployed to fix this bug as early as possible.
Reminder from the editors: Do keep in mind that abusing things like this is considered exploitation. Blizzard does have the right to ban you for abusing this if you're using it to bypass content à la our old friend Karatechop. Don't make Blizzard's job harder, and don't risk your account.
Update 10:00 a.m. EST Blizzard is aware of the problem and is looking for a way to solve it. They also issue the same warning we did -- don't exploit this.

hold on a minute bans can't go through because what do blizz expect pallys to do just not play for the whole day? i mean with the raid finder exploit u had to purposely do something to get the exploit pallys get this by just pressing a button. it is not fair to ban people over this but maybe taking away the achievemnts and such fair. Also are people suppose to leave any LFR that has a ret pally in it? this is going to cause outrage soz for wall of text

There is no ban incoming, just a hotfix. You worry too much :)
Zapwidget Feb 2nd 2012 6:07AM
They very much can ban accounts over this. Whether they will or not, and what criteria they use in making those decisions is entirely up to them and nobody outside of Blizzard can really know one way or the other, but...
Discovering a bug and then using that bug to perform feats and achievements you would otherwise not be able to do is the very definition of exploitation.
Killik Feb 2nd 2012 10:18AM
Yes, Zapwidget, I'm well aware they ban people for exploiting bugs. Note that the post I was responding to was somebody getting very agitated that Blizzard would ban his account if he even logged into his paladin. That's not a realistic possibility.

Last nite in Siege a Pally was vote-kicked for only doing 6K lol
Blayze Feb 2nd 2012 6:38AM
Glad I got my PvP goals done before this happened. :)
acidbreath Feb 2nd 2012 6:53AM
Ah man, my Pally is too low level to have SoT yet. No excessive dps for me then. Pity that.
Everclear Feb 2nd 2012 6:54AM
As a Paladin, I don't understand the problem here.

They're just keepin' us down, man. Keepin' us DOWN.

At least that explains how paladins were magically steamrolling my full-health warrior in PvP for those couple of early morning BGs I was in.
I'm rather upset I didn't refresh the main page over here when I noticed a new article posted to see what it was, given that my main IS a Paladin, with a ret set...
Oh well. Short bursts of immortaility are fun to read about, at least.

As a ret pally this really ticks me off. Great for those that got to enjoy it, but will probably feel the nerf bat for months to come from this one incident. I remember the wrath incident and we paid for it for most of the expansion.
On a side not, it is hilarious to think that Ghostcrawler is likely headhunting this morning for the culprit "Who dared make ret pallies awesome!!??" With is hate for rets, he was probably fuming.

Coming from an RP realm, we'll just hand-wave it away as an'she having a sunspot. No bugs here for us tauren sunstriders!
Shethornclaw Feb 2nd 2012 8:36AM
That's why my moderately geared ret pally was melting faces in WSG last night. I haven't pvp'd in awhile and just assumed getting an the Echo of Baine 2 handed axe was making all the difference.

So what are ret paladins who are doing regularly scheduled raids supposed to do tonight? Run without a seal?
Edymnion Feb 2nd 2012 10:20AM
Run it normally, this has already been fixed.
Boven Feb 2nd 2012 10:17AM
Dang. I ended up meeting some folks for dinner last night, but my original plan was to grind some honor on my undegeared pally.
The question that springs to my mind is just how one can avoid the bug during regular battlegrounds or instances or whatever. Either you risk getting in trouble for exploiting or you hinder your usefulness by not using seals at all. Kind of a lose/lose situation.
I suppose the only winning move is not to play. At least, not the pally.
Killik Feb 2nd 2012 10:20AM
On a totally unrelated note, I really like your wowinsider icon :)
Pyromelter Feb 2nd 2012 11:44AM
This isn't (or wasn't) globalthermonuclear war Boven :P. The "not to play" move is the right move when both sides are likely to lose - in this there was a definite winner.
