The Queue: A sudden increase in prudishness
"Finally," you're saying right now, "Sacco is back with more YouTube videos of songs he likes." Yer darn right!
Puntable asked:
I'm not sure I really want to ask this question, but here goes. Blizzard has been changing a lot of the armor models on females, such as black mageweave leggings, to cover more skin. Why the sudden increase in prudishness after 6 years?
Well, Black Mageweave Leggings haven't changed since launch. What other instances of an "increase in prudishness" can you provide? If you need evidence that Blizzard hasn't stopped putting in revealing armor for women, check out rogue season 11 gear.
pattycakes asked:
Do you think that Blizzard will ever add profession-crafted items that enhance mounts?
I'm thinking an Engineering recipe to create a horn/bell for the motorcycle/trike mount, or a Leatherworking/Tailoring recipe to create a saddle? Or perhaps a BS recipe to create armor for your mount?
Well, if we're talking actual effects, leatherworking used to have the Riding Crop, but it was removed. If you mean adding little doodads to your mounts, it's possible; Blizzard did say it wants to start offering more customization to stuff like druid armor and mounts and the like.
Eladonra asked:
Speaking of perma-bans....how many have there actually been? I remember the Martin Fury incident where the user - and I think the raid leader - were both perma-banned with the rest of the group receiving temp bans. I believe Paragon and Ensidia have received temp bans for exploits. I also know "of" someone who received a perma-ban for purchasing gold. He was a friend of my then-boyfriend. The way I was told, his account was banned at the IP level - thus making it more challenging to just start up a new account.
Account closures happen all the time in response to severe infractions of the Terms of Service. You don't tend to hear about them very much because the people who get them have been doing, well, things that are against the Terms of Service.
Lazymangaka asked:
How far in the past does the Goblin starting area take place?
It doesn't seem like it would be that long, but it would've taken time for Gallywix to build his pleasure palace in Azshara and for the Goblins to set up shop in Orgrimmar. If it's too far in the past, however, doesn't that suggest that Deathwing has been torching Azeroth for years now? And if the Goblins were able to build Gallywix his pleasure palace in just a few weeks, why haven't they been set to work on Orgrimmar yet?
Your adventures on Kezan and the Lost Isles take place during and directly after the Cataclysm. There's a necessary compression of time for goblins to already be around when you get to Orgrimmar. As for Gallywix's pleasure palace, well, you can just explain that away with "goblin priorities" -- ostentatiousness over usefulness any day of the week.

Stormwind should hire those goblins to fix that statue at the front gates. Those guys can't move a single chunk of granite 50 yards in 2 years!
cromahr Feb 3rd 2012 11:08AM
Sounds like a good idea. Just don't let it be the guys who worked on the Lakeshire bridge... we all remember how long that took =)
Gimmlette Feb 3rd 2012 11:18AM
Click on them and read the comments. I swear Blizzard lifted those from any work gang I've ever met.
Ata Feb 3rd 2012 11:24AM
The best part of that area now? If you hang out around there you'll hear some of them, including the 'bosses', complaining about how they feel they'll be stuck there for years and wont get anything done.
Terrant Feb 3rd 2012 11:29AM
Actually, they may not have a choice other than going for goblin labour. After the Stonemasons Guild was stiffed by the royalty and became the Defias Brotherhood, do you think any competent worker will do anything for Stormwind ever again?
mibu.work1 Feb 3rd 2012 12:06PM
It could be chocked up to the fact that the Gallywix face that was once a mountain..er...face... wa made by goblins, goblins that are well-payed, and thus highly motivated. Also, I think well-payed goblins given a mountain to demolish would prefer to do it with precisely-set explosives. Immagine, if you will, a solid mountian surrounded by goblins in bomb-shelters, a button is pressed, a boom happens, and there's a crude but accurate, and dusty, goblin face in the mountain. I think they could do that.
ghola Feb 3rd 2012 12:13PM
@mibu - we should get those goblins working then throughout azeroth! Turn Blackrock Mtn into an image of King Wrynn, that icecrown mountain in Arthas, Hyjal into Thrall, and that huge unnamed mountain just north of un'goro into Baine.

This is why Varian needs to crush that malicious mason's union. 2 years for a statue... 6 years for a birdge!!! These union chronies must be in secret cohoots with the twilight mob family. What's SI:7 doing about this obvious corruption in municipal organizations?
mord Feb 3rd 2012 5:08PM
I'm sure Gallywix just deployed his Pleasure Palace in a Box. Stormwind would be better off hiring some gnomes to invent a Statue Repair Bot.
durandal Feb 3rd 2012 5:48PM
For Stormwind, an Insta-tue might do the job then.

Nothing will take as long as it took the Westfall residents to work on the buildings at Sentinel Hill pre-Cataclysm ;)

Re: Perma-ban
I might be totally wrong here, but didn't Blizz give perma-bans to the members of that guild who used the wall-hack to skip AQ trash and get to C'Thun right away?
I remember reading that in an article about that and thought that that was a bit harsh, considering how they have temp-banned other guilds who have used exploits in raid-fights... but the AQ thing was years ago, so I guess their approach changed
Drakkenfyre Feb 3rd 2012 11:37AM
If you want to be a cynical bastard, you could say they didn't suspend them instead of banning because they weren't the big-name world first guilds of today. The ones with sponsorships, and the ones most people point to as examples of "top-end guilds". Those are the ones they give a little more leeway with. They are more in the public eye.
There are still things which will get you banned outright. Getting into GM Island is basically an instant ban if caught (it seems to vary. At one time it was instant-ban, others it's a suspension, then others instant-ban.) Emerald Dream is likely an instant ban. Hyjal/Old IF was usually a warning. Kiting raid bosses to cities could be a toss-up.
DragonFireKai Feb 3rd 2012 1:25PM
Yeah, Overrated, then the best Horde guild in the country, got perma banned for wallhacking. But Blizzard's been consistent on that front, if you get caught modifying the client files outside of the addon folder, you're toast.
lavergne.joseph Feb 3rd 2012 11:11AM
first, but seriously, how long has deathwing been torching azeroth in gametime?
loop_not_defined Feb 3rd 2012 11:32AM
Ignoring the failed First attempt, and the fact that you even tried that here (nobody likes it, just FYI), I assumed that Deathwing was technically in hiding after the Enter the Dragonqueen events, where Dee-dub and Alexstrasza fought each other in Twilight Highlands.
So timeline, as I see it, would be:
-Deathwing begins Cataclysm.
-Deathwing summons Ragnaros into Mount Hyjal.
-Deathwing torches ALL THE THINGS (before Mt Hyjal, after, or both).
-Deathwing gets in tangle with Alex and goes into hiding to heal and pull other strings.
-Deathwing meets Thrall below Mount Hyjal (see online story).
-Deathwing comes to Wyrmrest Temple with entire Twilight Dragonflight to stop Thrall & Co.
The "goes into hiding" bit relies entirely on what Alex believes DW will do after their fight, though. There's no other text indicating this is what he's actually doing.

Also, the CMS is buggy on this site and there's a significant lag between comments being posted and them appearing. So 'firsts' mostly fail like yours did.
lavergne.joseph Feb 3rd 2012 12:24PM
my question was actually how many years has he been torching it? Seriously doubt it was all in 1 yr.
Ullaana Feb 3rd 2012 11:17AM
Um, Pleasure Palace in a Box maybe?
moridar Feb 3rd 2012 1:10PM
Agreed! Anytime you need a town in a box... You will ask a goblin for it!
