Those of you with Authenticators may have noticed that the webpage is indicating that you do not currently have one attached to your account.
This appears to be just a display error, likely related to the currently ongoing Battle.net maintenance. If you have an Authenticator it should still be there and you will be prompted to provide the code when applicable.

Phasing is one of the most powerful tools in the designer toolkit. But like many powerful tools, it can cause great damage if used incorrectly. We definitely have overdone it in the past.
There is some phasing in Mists, but we try to take care not to separate friends, create ghosted mining nodes, and similarly disrupt your gameplay. What we were really referring to by the "dark secrets" is the way the story unfolds. The story in Cataclysm was something players knew from the outset -- Deathwing is back. The players were still heroes trying to undo some of the damage he caused, but they also still largely reacted to the things Deathwing and his minions had already done. In Mists we're attempting to take that one step further and have the world react to the players, and not just have the players react to the world. It gives the game a dynamic, "alive" feeling which is very much needed in a persistent-world game.
Some of the changes we're talking about aren't going to happen right away, but we'll build toward them in subsequent patches. While you can't truly keep story secrets in this business, we're trying not to spoil the surprises too early. In retrospect, we've taken a little bit of flak for this approach, because the misconception among some players is that the new continent has no conflict. There is plenty of conflict, but a lot of it begins when you arrive (rather than in Cataclysm, where great cracks in Azeroth appeared before your adventuring began).

With Mists of Pandaria, account-wide achievements will indeed become available at the Battle.net account level, and many achievements will be shared among characters. A wide array of achievements will certainly be covered, including achievements that relate to everything from raiding and PvP to maxing out professions and assorted fun challenges. We really love the idea that players will at last be able to proudly display proof of the full scope of their adventures around Azeroth, regardless of which character they choose to play on any given day.
While we are still working out the details regarding how various specific achievements will interact with the new system, once we have a bit more information to share with you, we'll certainly let you know.

Battle.net Balance is now live! As we announced previously, Battle.net Balance is a new feature that gives players an alternate way to purchase Blizzard digital products and services directly through their Battle.net accounts. Players are now able add to their Battle.net Balance using a variety of payment methods, and then use that balance toward Blizzard Entertainment products and services such as World of Warcraft game time; paid services, such as realm transfers and character name changes; digital versions of select Blizzard games, including Diablo II and StarCraft II; and in-game pets and mounts. In the near future, players will be also able to use Battle.net Balance for the digital World of Warcraft Battle Chest and WoW digital upgrades. In addition, with the upcoming launch of Diablo III, players will have the option to use Battle.net Balance to buy and sell items in the game's currency-based auction house.
For more information, check out the Battle.net Balance FAQ, or head to the Battle.net Balance page in Account Management to manage your balance.

I don't know about the Balance, but if Diablo works as planned I might not have to pay for my subscription anymore.

I suspect supply will quickly grow to the point that it will take so long to make enough to pay for your WoW sub that you won't actually have any time to enjoy WoW. But I hope it works for you; it's the same thing I'll be trying :)

Man, ghost nodes are the worst. What's even worse though is when you think you can JUST stand far enough away to reveal it, but close enough to still reach it.

What I have found rather advantageous for me is that I went through enough of Hyjal so that all the mines are available before you phase in the molten front stuff. So I can gather up things and only have level 80 mobs vs fighting through the higher level mobs. Since I only farm obsidian in Hyjal this is a total win for me.

Ghost Nodes?
Are you troubled by strange whispers in the middle of the night?
Do you experience feelings of dread in battlegrounds, dungeons, or raids?
Have you or your family ever seen a glitch, bug, or lua error?
If the answer is "yes," then don't wait another minute. Pick up the phone and call the professionals...
Blizzard Customer Support, we're ready to debug you!

One of the most fun things about ghost nodes is if you're running with a tiny bit of lag, you can fly down, start interacting with the node, complete the action... and then nothing. The game realises what's going wrong before it's able to give you the loot. But if you're not level capped, you can still get exp from the action. And that probably tags the node so no one else can use it!

Account-wide achievements will make me a very happy panda.
Zani Feb 6th 2012 10:32PM
me too! But the real question is... account wide mounts? Yes please?! My main really would like the Headless Horseman mount acquired on a random farming alt...
michael.s.bogle Feb 6th 2012 11:06PM
Absolutely. The proof is in the pudding ultimately, but I'm hoping they flag some of the really painful grinds as shareable achievements. Especially ones with titles that you wear as a flag of tireless endurance as much as anything.
Skyrei Feb 6th 2012 11:54PM
It will be nice for altholics that can feel the reward of doing something without having to do it 4,5,6,7,8,9,10+ times
Hob Feb 7th 2012 12:25AM
It kind of sounds like you can just display the achievement from one character on any other - not that you'd get the reward for it (title, mount, pet, etc.)
It would be cool, though, if a reward achievement unlocked a vendor. For example, exalted with Mag'har or Kurenai on one toon? Then you can unlock a vendor who - for just 30 Justice Points each - will sell you commendations that reward 250 reputation. That way, an alt could - with work - still earn exalted reputation without the whole quest chains and ogres and warbeads fiasco. And of course, buying the mounts is a time sink thing.
Mounts, titles, and pets could also be unlocked from vendors. Got the Reins of Anzu the Raven Lord? Well, for just 350 Spirit Shards, you can get another. Got the title "Professor"? Well, for a meager 10,000 gold donation to your favorite university (Horde U / U of Alliance), you can fast track to that same title.
Just thoughts, obviously these are crappy examples, but I can see something working like this.

My druid is a very peaceloving character who does not favor the Horde that much over Alliance. I have 0 HKs on that character and she'd dread the thought of having the achievement for 100k kills that my main has.
I am an achievement hunter on my main and some achies ended up on alts (when our raid needed a tank rather than a hunter), so having those on my hunter too would be nice. But, I'm not as enthusiastic about account wide as you lot. I fear that my characters will be less unique, more tools to reach a player goal rather than having a player help reach the character's goals.
My druid has travelled to all corners of the world, talking with druids regardless of faction and celebrating the moon. She proudly wears the title "the Elder". My rogue couldn't be @rsed: if something does not involve stabbing stuff, he stays in Orgrimmar. Why would that character deserve credit for something he has not done?
tl;dr: My characters explore the world, each one individually and on their own way, with their own goals. I hope their uniqueness will not get lost.

For me achievements not only break the fourth wall, they utterly demolish it and crush all of the pieces to dust. I don't count achievements as RP-compatible at all.
The beauty of account-wide achievements is that we can build them up on many different toons. Some achievs are very hard to get on clothies, for example, but much easier on plate classes (especially DKs). Others are easier for stealth, or ranged. Some are almost impossible for healers, such as most of the battleground ones.
I collect achievs, and I assume that anyone who is even vaguely interested in this news does. This news means that achievements which might have been nigh-on impossible will now be within reach if we have other toons to get them on. For me that's a Yay (or whatever noise it is that happy pandas make. A kind of bleat perhaps).
Snuzzle Feb 7th 2012 7:34AM
As an altoholic, I am hoping for some account-wide-unique achievements. "One of every class at level 90"? "One of every race at 90"? How about an achievement to have a max level horde and alliance on the same server called "Spy vs Spy"? The possibilities are delicious.
Thundrcrackr Feb 7th 2012 11:10AM
As someone who has already grinded out over 9000 achievement points on multiple alts, i'm not sure how i feel about them suddenly being account-wide.
Perhaps if our achievements show how many toons they've been achieved on then i wouldn't feel like i just wasted the last 3 years of my WoW life.
Philster043 Feb 7th 2012 12:01PM
Thundrcrackr - you are nuts! I'm close to 10k achievement points on my main, and I can't even imagine doing it on another character, and I probably won't do it. I am glad for this development if only if it means that all my alts will have access to various different faction vendors, but I agree that mounts are more desirable.

HAH! You guys are really getting too much of a kick out of the Judge Zarhym joke. XD
mibu.work1 Feb 6th 2012 10:03PM
I'm really hoping the next one will be Judge Doom, Judge Judy, or Hangin' Judge Roy Bean.
Nadia Feb 6th 2012 11:17PM
Give him a UK white curled wig and put him in a strait jacket; he can be Judge Mental!

The ability to flip a switch and join your party member in an earlier phase
that's one thing that could fix questing, at least a little bit
