Breakfast Topic: What role do you play in your guild?

I recently wrote a Breakfast Topic about roleplaying and was considering what I said that we all play a role in WoW. The replies to that topic were really fascinating, by the way -- thanks very much!
Now, what crossed my mind is that those of us who are in guilds often play a role. I am really lucky with my guild. Possibly because it includes people I've known for over 10 years, there's a real family feeling to it. The core members are talkative, helpful, and friendly and generally look out for each other, and I like to think that new members coming in to the guild feel welcome.
There are people who fulfill certain roles -- not just the leadership, but the two guys who have loads of gold, the guy who provides all the fish feasts, the girl who provides all the cauldrons and flasks for raids. There are the people who will be happy to boost your alt, the person who has every blacksmithing recipe under the Azerothian sun, the one who knows every instance in the game like the back of his hand, the people who will always have a gem and an enchant ready for you, and the ones who'll talk to you about nothing at all when you're feeling a bit down and lonely. The currently absent German guy who always did the steering of Ryolith and added a cheery voice to frustrating raids. And, of course, the quieter folk who just go about their business with an occasional bit of chat.
We've mostly found our niches and occupy them happily -- or at least I think we do!
So what's your role in your guild? Are you the gatherer of fish? The shoulder to cry on? The one who jokes around and bubbles death knights in raids to troll them? Or are you a lone wolf, a solo adventurer, guildless and answering to no one?

Guess I am the one who does all the fishing; always have feasts ready to go and provides guild leader with more for the guild. Also always have cauldrons and flasks ready.
Have all but 2 alchemy recipes, even some old ones no longer available. Same goes for cooking, lol.
Token worgen rogue aka middle-aged lady. Loves to raid, the thrill is getting the bosses down and moving on to the next challenge. Not quite as good as some of the younger guys so ends up having to sit out and wait for alt/pug runs =( Mind you, I'm not as bad as some that are taken because they are part of the clique but oh well.

Just as I am in real life I am a jack of all trades. I do what's needed and I do it fairly well, but I'm not exceptional at any one thing. With that said I do not heal or tank per se but I have been known to make great back-up healers or tanks, so I am able to fill in those shoes.

I'm the Friendly Mage, the Vending Machine, the Portal-John, the Fountain of Knowledge and the Stingray (the one who can shut a raging teen down with just a single sentence giving them a "say what?" moment).
I'm also the top 5 DPS of the guild and a fashionist.
Given all this I hould probably be a blood elf, but I'm too fond of the wiggly tail and hooves.

Token 'Drunk Scotsman' reporting in! :P

I Lead by example!
I am the Raid Team Leader, JC, Enchanter, Herbalist, Alchemist (Elixirs), who can also trot out a BS and Miner if needed. I provide most of the gems, enchants, flasks and food for raids. I play the Auction House, but do not let it become the focus of the game. I coordinate guild in game activities like our Festivus party (yes I found a pole that would suffice as a Festivus Pole in game) and our holiday achievement excursions. I used to lead a leveling guild during Wrath. For the past year I have been an Asst GM of my guild and recently took over the helm as our GM has been called to active duty for the next six months or so.
I am a high school teacher and certified principal in the real world - so a lot of my capabilities in the real world benefit me in game.

My guild is very small; it is rare to see more than five or six people on at once these days.
(We have about forty people total, but several are on hiatus or have quit WoW for now.)
I am an officer, but I don't know that I have any specific role.
I schedule events and hope people come. I update the web page. But neither of those roles are official...I just started doing them.
I used to provide fish feasts in Wrath, but we don't raid anymore. So I guess I am mainly the person who says "hi" to everyone if anyone else happens to be on when I am.

Comic relief.

I have that job too, Among many others. As the GM of a social guild, I provide a lot of the social energy. If it's too quiet, I will interject random things, quite often some song lyrics to whatever (usually 80's) song I am listening to. The guild jester though, is my favorite role.

Blast, you beat me to it.

I'm the altoholic. Even in groups of people with large numbers of characters I stand out. At one point I actually had to leave the guild on some of my characters because people couldn't stand the spam when I cycled through my alts doing holiday stuff or cooking dailies or w/e. Let's just say I'm looking forward to the character per realm cap being lifted so I can consolidate down to 1 account.

Token Englishman in a guild of Americans there to provide light entertainment whenever I speak on vent. The encyclopedia of WoW facts who can answer 9/10s of all the questions in guild chat. Source of free glyphs for all guild members. The guy most likely to be leveling an alt of some description. The ex-raider who now plays very casually, makes loads of money and PvPs a lot instead.

I'm the off tank hunter, I kill things until the tank dies, and when he dies I pull out Barricade and solo tank the last quarter or sometimes more of a boss. Our tank dc'd right when we first started OS, I pulled out Barricade and cleared the raid.

I like to think I pump out the necessary levels of sass and crass to keep people from getting too comfortable with their position or skill level. It's important role imo because complacent raiders are bad raiders. When I'm doing my job well, I guess I'm the sniper... let your guard down and I'll shoot you straight through the heart. Or head or groin or whatever I can hit. Part of it is logging fights and being able to go through the expression editor quickly enough to clear up exactly why we wiped and whose fault it was and make them feel bad enough not to do it again. And keeping up on theorycrafting for a lot of specs so I can vomit knowledge in people's faces when they're wrong. I must do an okay job of it because everybody generally likes me (and I generally like them)...
I also rarely talk in vent during raids (I like to relax and chime in only occasionally in raidchat), so I guess I'm a dark horse to those who don't hang around outside of main raids.
And I keep the guild bank's alchemy tab organized. So there's that.

Im the guy who constantly proves our raid leader wrong.
This is not cos im a d-bag but because our raid leader is very good at getting the tactics wrong. for example, it took me four weeks for me to convince him that the crystals on morchok hits the three closest people and not three random people. it does not discourage him though.
Gimmlette Feb 7th 2012 10:10AM
Weeelllll....
For starters, guild leader. The job comes with a hat.
Then, I'm guild mom. I fix boo-boos with some comforting words. I'm the disciplinarian. I don't like that roll but someone's got to tell people if they are over the line. (I keep a rolled up newspaper with which to whack noses.) I create the schedule and bought the available in-game SUVs to get people where they need to go. I have the cattle prod and am adept at herding cats. I make sure we have food on the table, clothes on our backs and a roof over our heads. I used to do the banking but someone has volunteered to handle that, thank goodness. I still pay the bills and hand out allowances. I know every name and whose alt is whose.
I'm the most active female dwarf hunter in the guild. I have the most achievement points and am always looking for more. I have been everywhere and done everything so I can kind of remember what quest you're asking about. Yes, it was rather scary that I knew exactly where that elder was, how to get there and what you'd encounter on the way to find him.
I run raids and 5-mans. I agonize over every raid spot because I want everyone to see everything and there aren't enough slots for everyone who wants to go.
I do all of this and, many times, worry that it's not enough.
Shela Monster Feb 7th 2012 10:11AM
The role of the person with the most Achievement points, and therefore anything I say people think I'm being a know-it-all.
:(
Bgrim Feb 8th 2012 11:11AM
I am an officer in my guild. I think i am the info guy. i have 1 of every class except lock. so i am usually the first person to give ansewers about a class when people ask in guild chat.
Erebos Feb 7th 2012 10:16AM
I... actually have no idea :\
xyna Feb 7th 2012 10:19AM
Mr funny Rogue
livingmercy Feb 7th 2012 10:23AM
Mage Ports, for sure. Enchants, too... and the girlfriend of one of the main PvP healers, so I get to tag along on things sometimes. Don't roll your eyes at that part, please. I do my part. My DPS rocks. :p
I'm also the achievement girl, which is my favorite part!
