I am the greatful to be there person. :) No, seriously I am an officer, which was a surprising promotion considering the people hadn't known me very long. The guild I'm in is actually one that splintered off from another guild that is leveling/raiding successfully.
An RL friend of mine got into this guild with her main, we both had alts on a different server, when that other server guild got deserted, she invited me to chat with her on the vent of the guild she was in (same people, different name). They were really nice to me, one of them even gave me some really great shadow priest tips, he didn't have to help me, but he did. It took just a few days to take up the offer that I'd have a 'home' should I think of server transferring. It just so happened that the morning I landed on the server, the guild they were in had fallen apart overnight and a new one was being started. I was invited to that one, and it has been one of the best experience's I've had in wow. That was also the first night I raided. When I had landed, my bags/bank were full of all kinds of materials that I took with me in the transfer because they were mine (or my friend's), so I emptied what was useful into the new guild bank. A bunch of us worked together to build the bank however we could contribute with our professions or gold.
Now that we're established, the bank is working as intended, we're knocking out achievements that give rewards like bigger cauldrons and things, my role is officer. A go-to person for bank questions, buying things from the bank, or other guild type questions. I have an open offer to make bags for people/their alts, or whatever else they may need from my tailoring tab. I have since moved my 2 alts from the other server so I also offer alchemy transmutes and gem cuts to guildies who may or may not have mats or a lot of gold. I still go fishing when I'm bored to get mats for the feasts, even though its not as pressing of a matter now (we have a nice stock), its just sometimes relaxing to fish. Or I'll farm (mining on my JC toon is the only other place farming will help, my herbs on the alchy toon are behind).
Other than that, I'm always willing to fill a spot in someones queue. I'm dps so I don't make it faster for them (unless ALL they needed was one dps.. which you know, we're not in short supply), but sometimes its nice to not hop into a random alone. It also helps to stack the group in the case of gearing guildies or their alts, I'll help another clothie out giving them an extra roll should they not be the only need roll on something that is an upgrade.
I try to help out however I can. These people gave me a chance when the only thing they knew about me was that I am "ettne's friend". I've gotten help with my class (shadow priest), a spot on the main raid team, and trusted with an officer spot. So, I'll help out who ever, how ever I can.
