Kalimdor completely recreated in Minecraft

This wasn't all done with the base tools available in Minecraft, however. Rumsey needed to use mods for Minecraft that allowed him to build beyond the native height limit of 128 blocks. The continent was not created block by block by hand, either. Rumsey developed custom software to use in mapping out his recreation. Still, this is damn cool. Faulting him for using these tools is like faulting someone for separating their LEGOs using this thing or one of these instead of their teeth.
In collaboration with the Cursecraft project, Rumsey does hope to recreate all of the World of Warcraft in Minecraft one day, including instances and raids. Kalimdor is only the beginning of this architectural endeavor.
We've included a few sampler images of his Kalimdor recreation in the gallery below, but you can view all of them over in his Minecraft forum thread. The limited block options available makes some of the coloration a little abstract at times, but that's nothing a custom texture pack couldn't fix.

The sad thing is the Minecraft trees almost look better than the in-game trees.

A little, or maybe a lot, off topic but something I've been thinking about.
See, this is the kind of article I find uninteresting, and I wish something more "important" had been posted but I understand that some folks find things like this fun to learn about.
I don't understand why some people would post a comment belittling the writers for articles like this. Will I continue to read WoWInsider? Darn right. Will I be satisfied with every article written and posted? Nope.
But I will be happy to have a site that doesn't cowtow to the demands of the few in what is posted. So Alex, even though this wasn't my cup of tea, let me say to you and all the others working for WI, well done and keep giving the community what you folks find interesting.
Pax.

Thank you! ... I think?

Court of public opinion says no.

@Alex,
You're welcome.
I think some people didn't understand that my post was meant to show that while not everyone likes every post, there are a bunch of us who appreciate every post that's made. What I don't like is those who are insulting or rude because they disagree with what gets posted as articles.
If I read an article that I don't like I usually remain silent, but today I wanted to have my two cents and let WI know that even when I don't like something you always have my support and thanks for all the articles.
Pax.

your comment is being downvoted because it is devoid of all content that is not raw vitriolic insults.

"What I don't like is those who are insulting or rude because they disagree with what gets posted as articles."
If your post had been made in reply to one of those people, I would have upvoted it as an intelligent and germane response. As it is, out of the blue criticism to no-one in particular, I couldn't hit the downvote emphatically enough. If you have a good counter-argument, you must either wait for someone to make the argument to begin with, or you're just trolling...
Ullaana Feb 8th 2012 3:09PM
@Artificial,
I just couldn't wait for someone to trash an article, as this has been eating at me for some time now. Plus I wanted to make it clear that while I didn't like the article myself, there was no need for me to demean or disparage the Author or WI.
As for your downvote, I have no problem with that especially since you were kind enough to explain your reasoning.
I hope you will try to understand that I just had to "say" something because every time I see the rude comments instead of a calm message it sticks in my craw.
Pax.
