I think Blizzard should scrap the dance studio concept forever and ever ... if it meant we could all get personalized theme music for PvP.
WoWie Zowie asked:
As I understand it, Tyrande Whisperwind is a Priest. Yet I see her wielding a bow and having a pet "Dori'thur" the owl. Is this because she is hiding something? Or did Blizz just decide that she needs some form of offense without being "shadow"?
Tyrande is a character that existed before World of Warcraft's class descriptions. Her unit class in Warcraft III was a Priestess of the Moon. They're more like holy huntresses than the priests we have in WoW. Priestess of the Moon abilities included:
- Scout Temporarily summons an Owl Scout, which can be used to scout the map. Can see invisible units.
- Searing Arrows Increases the damage of the Priestess' attack by adding fire. Searing Arrows will fire until the Priestess is out of mana.
- Trueshot Aura An aura that gives friendly units around the Priestess bonus damage to their ranged attacks.
- Starfall Calls down waves of falling stars that damage nearby enemy units.
Brixus asked:
Has the role+ need system been stealth updated? I haven't seen any discussion on this but this is what I noticed in my raid finder last night.
On my Druid two vanquisher tokens dropped off of one boss. I rolled need on both (cause that's just what you do) and I won one of them.(!) When I was scrolling through the chat log lookin at the rolls I noticed that after I won the one token, the other token didn't have the roll+ on it. I could need on both and it showed as a need, but it didn't show the extra 100 on the roll.
Did they change how winning loot is distributed? I would think that's pretty awesome to make loot distribution more fair.
This change was a part of patch 4.3.2. If you roll need on two identical items and win the first one, you can't win the second one. You rolled, but whether you had the role bonus or not didn't matter. You couldn't win at all.
Waikito asked:
my question is from someone who has been away from the game for a couple months. how is the new LFRaid feature working out? I enjoy raiding but have only briefly had a guild that was committed to it. if the LFRaid feature is working well(and those raids are still fun) it would definitely tilt the scales in coming back to play sooner rather than later.
That's going to depend on what sort of experience you want. Do you want a hardcore, nail-biting, heart-racing raid experience? The Raid Finder won't supply that. Do you want to see the content and have a chill, fun time? Then absolutely, come back to WoW and check out the LFR tool. It's good stuff.
Morgatho asked:
any idea why there is an invisible wall in the Eastern Plaguelands?
The wall is preventing you from seeing the back end of Stratholme, and it's also preventing you from zoning into Quel'thalas without using the proper portal to do it. Quel'thalas hasn't been updated to allow flight, plus it's still on Burning Crusade server architecture. One way or another, you'd need a loading screen to go there to filter you through the actual instance portal.
Spelio asked:
Am I the only one who enjoys fishing in WoW?
I enjoy it, but only when I'm pursuing a specific item or quest objective. I'm not going to sit around in-game and fish just for the sake of fishing; there are about a million other things I could be doing, both in-game and out.

I like fishing in-game, but I don't do it other than in pursuit of a goal. I also like archeology, and I'm perfectly happy to toodle around the world looking for those happy red spots, even if I've finished every single item that type of digsite has to offer. It's just soothing to me, like quiet music or playing solitaire.

Me too. I love farming also, whether killing the same mobs over and over for leather or a certain drop, or flying around a zone in a pattern for mining nodes, or weeds. Shinier than a game of solitaire any day!

I love doing the cooking and fishing dailies on all my toons, I find it very relaxing and enjoyable, plus the chance at a pole from the bag makes it even better.

My thoughts exactly as far as Archaeology goes. As for fishing, if I'm in the right mood I'm more than happy to spend an hour or so just casting away to see what comes in.

I have fished for the pure sake of fishing, and indeed, it is better than a day at work.
Amaxe Feb 8th 2012 11:50AM
So, in other words, you hate your job?

Twowolves Feb 8th 2012 11:51AM
No but after 16 years, I could stand for a few more days fishing.
Killik Feb 8th 2012 12:03PM
Is your job being an archaeologist? ;)
Twowolves Feb 8th 2012 12:08PM
No, but my Masters is for paleontology, so of course, I'm an executive in an office.
:)
It's funny how life works out.

@Killik I LOL'd. TY

I've never heard the Guys on the Deadliest Catch say "At least we're fishing" when they're 2 inches from death....
props to Tosh...when I heard him talk about it, I saw the light.
Drakkenfyre Feb 8th 2012 2:54PM
Amaxe, old saying is "A bad day at fishing is better than a good day at work."
Twowolves, you have a Master in paleontology? Awesome.
Twowolves Feb 8th 2012 3:25PM
Drakkenfyre, thanks! I was the hero of my nephews and their friends, who were all playing with Jurassic Park toys at the time. However, I didn't deal with dinosaurs. My area of interest was with whale families.

Fishing in WoW is awful. Just awful. Is it better than a punch in the face? Sure. But that shouldn't be our standard for a fun video game.
Stand still. Face a direction. Push a button. Stand still for some long, but variable, amount of time, staring at your screen or listening for a small splashy sound (not to be confused with the other watery sounds going on). Usually you then get to push a second button. Repeat. That's fishing! Wheeeee....
The fact that fishing is, essentially, unchanged since launch, as bad as it is, is just astonishing to me. Blizz has been so proactive on making so many other facets of the game better, but fishing sits there, just flipping us all off.

I don't mind it, but I certainly did a lot more of it while I was still after the achievements, and understand the complaints.
I forget what game it was - Ocarina of Time, maybe? - that you could see the fish in the water and had a targeting thingy to aim your cast toward them, just like you would out on the boat. We know the targeting technology is already there because we can throw a bottle at the ground after drinking our Brew of the Month. We further know they have plenty of underwater mobs, so adding some fish moving about randomly wouldn't be ridiculously resource-intensive - certainly not on the level of a "whole new system" like pet battles, new talent trees, etc. And that's just one idea. Throw in a slightly higher chance to fish up rare, neat stuff, with a few more achievements and sound effects - really, guys, it isn't that hard. So why not throw a few devs at it for a few days and see what they come up with? It's not as though they've never scratched game components they weren't satisfied with, and who knows, they might come up with something that instantly revitalizes the game's most unappreciated whole profession.

@Vilhelm
I don't think fishing is even close to as bad as you make it out to be. But that's just me. As most secondary professions, it provides more fun and perks than any others. So, I think the fun is moving on from simply casting your line somewhere and realizing all the achievements and items you can get from them.
@Grove
I would very much dislike clicking more for fishing. I think there is already one click too many. What they could do maybe is update some random things- chance to get more fish and more drops. Fishing in real life isn't that exciting either. It's all about being outdoors, maybe with a friend, and experiencing nature. Well, that and drinking. I think also, if there was a mount you could get and fish off of, would make it more interesting too.
Bottom line, it's a secondary profession. If you don't like it- don't do it. Leave it alone for the people who do :)

I like fishing! Like Alex though, I like it best when I have a specific goal in mind (fish up X number of items for a quest, get a few stacks of a specific fish for cooking/buff purposes). The lure timers help structure time too. Now once I've settled on a goal, I might feel in the mood and keep on going. For example, this weekend I completed the Dalaran fountain achievements on an alt and went from 290 to about 400 skill.
Eyhk Feb 8th 2012 1:48PM
The only thing I don't like about fishing is when I need to fish a pool. I have achieved Illustrious Grand Master Fishing, yet I can't even aim and release reliably. It needs to be changed to Illustrious Grand Master Clicker cause honestly my toon can't fish worth a damn.
Noyou Feb 8th 2012 5:10PM
@Eyhk
I totally agree with that. As you skill up you should gain a perk. A master angler should be able to hit a pool 9 times out of ten. Just saying.
I said earlier I wouldn't want a directional thing to be placed on the ground, but if they did it right and made the auto loot function really auto loot, then it would work. What I wouldn't want is, click for it to come up, click to place it, click to loot. That's fine if you are making a couple casts. Not so much if you are making 20/50/100+

Ahh Stone Cold Steve Austin...my favorite wrestler of the WWF. Lots of good times watching him on tv while in high school. Good memories.
I gradually started watching it less and less with they changed their name to "WWE" in 2001 and guys like The Rock, Mick Foley, and of course, Stone Cold (pretty much the attitude era of the late 90s) starting moving on to other things.
