I've never understood this fascination with the Dance Studio. Like what did Blizz say it will do cause as far as I know, it just customized your character's dance moves which, to me, seems like something that would be fun for about an hour. I love the idea of Pet Battles, I liked the concept of Path of the Titans, I don't get the purpose of the Dance Studio.

I don't remember Blizz ever releasing any details about their plans for Dance Studio; it was just one of features that was listed in the initial WotLK preview trailer at Blizzcon (2007 was it?).
A general concensus was formed it would be like the barber shop where our characters could go in and learn new dances or the dances of other races. But now, come to think of it, did anyone suppose that Blizz was trying to get in on the popluarity of dancing games (like DDR) and have it be a minigame where we'd have to press buttons according to a pattern to make our characters dance correctly? I guess I didn't really think about it before. I like optional minigames in WoW.

Anything that allows me to do something besides the Macarena would be awesome. :P

Some code was dug up that showed some of the text strings. You could customize your dances with multiple parts. One of the "enders" available was an Arcane Explosion animation.
Their excuse was that animating all of the models to correctly use these new animations would take some time. Officially it still hasn't been dropped, but at this point, releasing it might cause more negative PR than simply letting it drop as a feature that never made it. "Game feature takes 4 years to be put in after being advertised on the box" wouldn't be a good game site headline.
I still want it put in. Some of the races dances could really be changed up.

It's purely that it was promised but never delivered.
Its ON the Burning Crusade box. It's freaking offered on the box!

@Skarlette: Yeah, the human female dance is so lame. It boggles me that humans don't have the option to dance like Karazhan ghosts.

I have been stuck doing the FREAKING MACARENA FOR NEARLY SEVEN YEARS.
THAT is what the big deal about the Dance Studio is.

@Twill: It's not, though. "The Dance Studio was on the box!" is one of those pieces of WoW folklore that's been repeated for so long that everyone just sort of assumes it's true, but apparently nobody ever actually goes and checks their old game boxes, because it's not actually there. It's not (and never was) on the Burning Crusade box, the Wrath of the Lich King box, or the Cataclysm box. In fact, I don't think it was ever even advertised by Blizzard anywhere except the first Wrath of the Lich King teaser trailer that they showed at BlizzCon 2008, when Wrath was first announced.
Interestingly, the Wrath box actually does promise a *different* feature that was never delivered ("Engage in aerial dogfights with flying mounts and new, gnome-engineered planes!"), but nobody ever seems to remember than one.
