Well, it is good to have some money tucked away of course for MoP. But then with the inflation of Cataclysm, the number of virtual millionaires make that a moot point. What we'll need money for is:

Class trainers
Tradeskills
New flight skills

How much we'll need is unknown until Blizz starts making announcements of course.

In past xpacs, 5-10k gold was considered a safe amount to get started. No idea if that is realistic or not for MoP.
