The Queue: I've gone viral

No, not the hip, internet viral. The bad viral where you throw up for a week and can't ingest solid food.
At least I got my Lovebird. Let's answer some questions.
Shulkman asked:
Is there a use for Dark Iron Residue anymore? I believe it was used for Rep with Thorium Brotherhood, but not sure if that's still current, and I can't seem to find anyone to turn it in to.
Yes, you can still use it for reputation turn-in quests Gaining Acceptance and Gaining Even More Acceptance. You have to be friendly with the Thorium Brotherhood to get these quests.
To be honest, people don't do much of the Dark Iron Residue quests any more for reputation because it's so easy to farm up some Lava Cores and Fiery Cores from the Molten Core to turn in for almost 1,000 rep a piece. Also, how many times can I type "core" in one sentence? Apparently, the answer is three.
xenothaulus asked:
Will I have the Violet Proto-Drake on all my characters, and will that mean they all get the superfast flying? Because I've already bought it on most of them anyway and have been wanting to on the rest.
We have no idea since we don't exactly know what Blizzard's policy with account-wide achievements is going to be; however, I would assume that if your character got the achievement with the epic flying+ package deluxe, then all characters would get that as well. It seems almost stupid to have the gold sink in the game at that point, right? So maybe it won't behave that way.
I still like my idea of giving all characters who purchase a mount from the pet store the highest flying available.
Touphemia asked:
Hi Queue!! I am a toddler Paladin (as in, I'm still bright eyed and fresh faced, but I'm level 57). I love prot! Flinging shields and the hammer ability and shield holy power dump... they all look and sound amazing! My concern though, is that I'm not blocking much at all. I'd love to block more often than 5%, since blocking is awesome, bit I can't seem to find any way to increase my block without mastery.... Am I missing something? Is there a stat I can enchant or stack to make me block more? It'd be nice to be able to use Reckoning and Holy Shield!
You are missing a crucial ingredient in paladin blocking -- mastery. As you get into the 80-to-85 game and start acquiring gear with mastery on it, your block will skyrocket. As for now, blocking isn't even that crucial. Remember that the game has been tuned in such a way, as Blizzard does with each expansion, that tanking is barely tanking until the later levels. Don't worry about the block, stay bright-eyed and excited, and when mastery comes, you'll be extremely happy.
Sergel asked:
What's the best bar in WoW? Persoanlly I'm fond of Ironforge's
This is easily The Grim Guzzler in Blackrock Depths, hands down. It's got a band, a succubus waitress, hilarious antics, and dark iron dwarves, everyone is welcome, and it's in one of the coolest instances in the entire game. I'll sometimes use my Mole Machine to just go and hang out in the Grim Guzzler. Best bar, easily.

Does anyone know of a guide for soloing the Heroic Northrend dungeon achievements? I know there are some that CAN'T be soloed ("Share the Love", which requires a full party of five; and pretty much everything in the Oculus), but I'd really like to get Glory of the Northrend Hero. Trade on my server tends to be obnoxious, and my current guild has no interest in revisiting old content, so I'd like to solo as much of it as possible.
VSUReaper Feb 13th 2012 11:46AM
Try and find 1 or 2 more people to get the majority of them - only about 4 require a full 5 man - soloing is going to be painful, and will go faster with a partner or two.
Wowhead comments should still be useful. Nothing was changed drastically when cata came out.
Shinae Feb 13th 2012 11:59AM
I've been soloing some Wrath heroic achievements with my prot pally. I've found that it's actually easier to do them when you don't have to coordinate with others. Many of them involve holding off on DPSing, and one can control one's own dps better than a group.
Even though they are a bit outdated, the comments on WoWHead for the achievements are still generally helpful. Good luck!
Pyromelter Feb 13th 2012 12:58PM
The best way to get players is to set up an event for your guild, try to recruit at least 4 others, usually you can pluck a dps out of trade for the 5th one. You're going to need 5 people at least for this one:

Good luck! Red proto-drake is pretty sweet.
Arrohon Feb 13th 2012 5:39PM
At least four others? I'd like to do Trial_oC with more than 5. Those mounted fights can't end fast enough.
Hob Feb 13th 2012 8:12PM
Ah, but Trial of the Crusader isn't part of the Glory of the (Northrend) Hero achievement, and - as Pyromelter mentions - the red proto-drake is definitely sweet.
I wouldn't mind doing Trial of the Crusader again. I always thought it was fun. And I still hang out at the tournament and do the dailies when I'm feeling frizzed out on everything else.

About achievements, Q4Q:
Do you think it will be possible for Blizzard to actually alphabetize (spelling?) the Glory of the Hero achievements?
Me and a few guildies are working on Glory of the Hero (Lich King stuff) and the list is just ... really bad. No order. At all. At least for me. But then I'm a librarian and I'm used to order.
It is annoying though.
bjorn9486 Feb 13th 2012 11:49AM
I believe when you start (you have no completed achievements) they are arranged by dungeon and then the order in which they arise.
I agree however, they are quite mashed around when you start completing them.
zinckiwi Feb 13th 2012 12:04PM
Amused at the notion of a librarian who is unsure about the spelling of "alphabetize".
arkhan Feb 13th 2012 12:10PM
I can recommend the Overachiever addon. It won't order the meta for you, but it adds a new "Suggested" tab to your achievement window and it displays relevant achievements there according to your location. So no more standing around in dungeons searching through the achievement list to remember what you were supposed to be doing.
Skarn Feb 13th 2012 1:39PM
Bjorn is right, the list (at least in the achievement itself) is arranged by dungeon. Which makes sense, as you'd want to do the achievements on a "per dungeon" basis.
Joakim Feb 13th 2012 4:46PM
@Zinckiwi
It is slightly amusing, yes :)
I have no idea why I keep dropping a "z" into it. English is not my first language but still.
And yes, it annoyz me ;P
bilbomoody Feb 13th 2012 12:01PM
Is it the World's End Tavern in Shattrath where you have a quest to start a bar brawl? I think that bar's my favorite, what with the nostalgia of BC and all.
Spelio Feb 13th 2012 12:52PM
I don't know about a Bar Brawl but I do know that there were quests there requiring you to fight someone. I didn't think that it involved the whole bar though.
Jaq Feb 13th 2012 2:48PM
You're thinking about this chain:
http://www.wowhead.com/quest=10009
Three (formerly) elite mobs you have to deal with as part of the longer Altrius the Sufferer chain. One of them is at the World's End Tavern, the orge Raliq.
The start a bar brawl quest is at the speed barge in Thousand Needles.
bilbomoody Feb 13th 2012 3:43PM
Yeah, thanks @Jaq that's the chain I was thinking about. There was something about that seedy bar left an impression with me.
Killik Feb 13th 2012 6:38PM
@bilbo There is a quest to start a fight with some thugs just around the corner from the World's End Tavern though. "Book? What Book?" I think it is.
predets Feb 13th 2012 1:04PM
I don't know if it's just because I started playing wow late in BC, but I love visiting all the BC zones. I just ran the three dungeons in Netherstorm last night and had a great time. I'm also saddened every time I go to Silvermoon City when I see how dead it is.
Philster043 Feb 13th 2012 7:20PM
It does suck about Silvermoon City. It seems such a great place to hang out, too, but there really is no incentive to stick around there.

Regarding prot tanking, I have a little problem with my pally alt.
He is in all tanking gear, and has a block rating of about 46% (Item lvl is 363 right now, I think). I gemmed and reforged for mastery a lot, going by recommendations by askmrrobot.
I use the recommended priority system, seal, blessing etc.
However, my problem is: I don't do a lot of damage, which of course is a certain factor for holding threat too. I haven't played him in a while, but from guild heroics and some FL trash, I remember doing 5-6K damage...
I went to the training dummy today to test this morning, and my max was about 5-6 K indeed.
I don't understand this, because I have seen so many pallies do way more dmg than that, and an equally geared blood DK back then did more than twice as much dmg.
Is this normal? Should a pally at this ilvl, with tank gear and a focus on mastery, do only 5-6K
Where could I start to find out what is wrong?
Thanks so much!
