This question's the wrong way around. Archaeology is what I do while I wait for the arena queue to pop. I used to alt-tab or read books in the meantime, but I'd never get properly focused on a novel or I'd get jerked back to reality by two guys screaming at me to accept before they have to play double DPS no healer. Archaeology is moving wallpaper, and I'd never for one minute do it for its own sake. The relics and (at the start of the xpac) usable epics are a nice bonus.

You got that right. Archaeology is something I do when I'm waiting for a dungeon queue to pop.Unless of course I have to farm Basilisk "Livers".Or Tol Barad dailies.Or, y'know, organise my bank/guild bank/void storage.Or alt-tab and read TV Tropes or something. But once all that more-important stuff is out of the way, you can bet I'm flying around a continent muttering about Night Elf digsites.
