The Queue: Heart of the Aspects
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee!
We're giving away a Heart of the Aspects mount! Go enter!
Luotian asked:
Are we going to have another jump in difficulty between Mists and Cata like we did between Wrath and Cata? Example: I recently leveled my Dwarf Shaman up to 80. When I went from ICC, where things died without a whole lot of difficulty, to Mount Hyjal I died. Repeatedly. I couldn't pull less than 3 things at a time, CCing things was a must, and they hit so much harder it was almost obscene. They seem to have tuned the starting zones to those in ICC gear-- none of my characters were, and I recall it being difficult every time. With RF making it *even more accessible*, will Mists be like that, making it something of a nightmare to level alts I don't run raid finder with up to 90?
This is an amazing question. Potentially yes, and potentially no. Here's the problem: We don't have all of the information yet, so everything is speculative. The first thing to consider is whether or not an item squish or some sort of power balance system goes into effect before or just after the Mists of Pandaria launch. If mudflation is taken care of with an item squish, then there will be a more gradual power ramp-up through the expansion, and you shouldn't see too many gearing problems. On the other hand, if no item squish goes through, Blizzard might be preparing to get rid of these issues by giving players who are setting out into new content "earlier" than they should be because of increased experience gain gear to compensate. We saw those full level 80 sets of gear that were datamined a while back, so who knows?
Personally, I'm hoping that the item squish goes through before Mists of Pandaria much like how the Cataclysm changes went through prior to the expansion's release, so that we have time to adjust to the changes. Yes, it will be jarring, but it's another necessary move. Hell, we don't even know if Blizzard decided on an item squish yet. Oh, the uncertainty!
The bottom line is that we don't know what type of power jump there will be because that very issue is being discussed within the sacred and hallowed Blizzard halls as we speak. Great question.
waleed asked:
Can some one explain exactly what happens to the aspects after deathwing dies?
Check out our Know Your Lore on this very subject. Shinae in the comments summed it up pretty well (and I think we're beyond spoiler range for Cataclysm): "Simply put, the Aspects sacrificed their immortality in order to kill Deathwing."
Fremastr asked:
Is there an phone app that will text me/alert me when my server comes back online?
I don't know if there is or not, but that would be a pretty cool app.
psycho_ryko asked:
After reading Dawn's article on class romances for Priests, I couldn't help thinking of ways to do a WoW Horoscope. Instead of Zodiacs, they'd be for classes. Once the idea popped into my head, I couldn't help beginning to plan out how to do it and all the details. My question is: Do you think anyone would be interested in something like this? What's your opinion?
Yes, I think it would be a very funny idea. In fact, it would be very easy to do! WordPress is free, Blogger is free, and Twitter is free. That's all you need to start. Remember, the only way you ever start something or create something is by doing it. Take a couple of minutes and make a WoW horoscope site.
WoogieNoogie asked:
Anyone happen to know what the locked door across from Old Ironforge is?
Old Old Ironforge.

The rumor of /camp that I heard was that way back in vanilla you used /camp to log out and gain the "rested" bar when you were not in an Inn. It still took longer to gain the rested bar doing it this way but at least you could still gain it if you were not close to an Inn.
I don't think that was ever the case (HearthStone anyone?) but it sounded good at the time and I couldn't think of a better reason for /camp so I accepted it.

I believe it's a hold over from Everquest.

Q!
In the absence of the Classifieds, has WoW Insider considered some sort of recruitment column? Sure there are other avenues like realm forums and so on to explore, but the community here at WI is pretty awesome and I'd love to be able to leverage that.
For instance, if a healer is looking to start Heroic Dragon Soul in a 10-man raid group that runs Tuesday/Thursday from 9pm-12 PST, I know of a group that is looking. If said healer were a shaman that'd be awesome, but a druid or paladin would be good too. There might be an option for a DPS shaman or mage too. There's a guy you could talk to over on Proudmoore, Alliance side.

I agree that a recruitment column would be a welcome re-addition. While the guild gossip column (I forget the title) was not so good, I do miss the Classifieds.
I feel closer to W.I. posters than the WoW community at large, so whenever I get around to finally leveling an Alliance toon past level 30, I'd prefer to guild with folks here.

There's an iPhone app called "WoW Realm Checker" which you can use to get a push notification when your server's status changes. It's Free.
There's another iPhone app called "WoW Realms" which does the same thing, but it costs $1.99.
There may be others, but these are the two that I found.

Blizzard's WoW Armory app recently added a realm status button that shows your realms and, well, their status. Sadly it doesn't push or anything, but there is a nice little refresh button in the corner.

You can set up a text to come in by using twitter's text alerts. Create a twitter account, have it follow your server's page, and it will text you when it happens.

I only had two toons in ICC gear when Cata hit, and while I agree that leveling those toons was much easier to start with than the other five alts I've leveled to 85, I didn't have any substantial difficulty adjusting from Icecrown questing items to Cata.
Part of what makes it easier is that you can buy Cata level green BoEs that work from level 78 up.

The wow app has a section on the menu that you can see if your server is up or down on real quick. Pretty sure the app is free, just guild chat and ah are pay services.

I'm leveling my 4th tank (DK) right now, and I'm seeing more and more dps/healers in full PvP gear in dungeons (currently lvl 71 and in Northrend, the trend started with Outland). What's up with that? Is honor gear that easy to get, and that much better than PvE gear? Am I missing out by not picking up some PvP gear for my DK?
Neirin Feb 15th 2012 4:52PM
Yes, low-level honor gear is really that easy to get.
Yes, the lvl 70 gear (and to a lesser extent the lvl 60 gear) is really that much better than what you're likely to get from questing/dungeoning.
However, no, you're not missing out on much. You will level faster by not worrying about pvp (though I still recommend doing some while leveling up 'cause it can be fun) and any benefit you get from the gear gets wiped out pretty quickly by leveling into new content. If you're having trouble filling a particular slot with a level-appropriate item, though, go ahead and grab a pvp item (i.e. if you're in Northrend and still using the Barov Peasant Caller, it's time to trade up).

@Fremastr
As for an app that tells you your realms status for an iPhone, RealmStat is what I use, make sure you turn on the notifications for the app so you can get instant messages.

Q for the queue:
i bought the new mount today and by mistake i bought off the US(im from scottland) blizz store and when i tried to redeem the code i couldnt. So my question is will i have to buy the mount again or if i ask blizz will refund me or exchange it for the EU version?
Neirin Feb 15th 2012 5:44PM
I'd give blizz customer service a call. That sounds like the sort of thing they're likely to fix. It would kinda be a dick move to make you buy 2.
Neirin Feb 15th 2012 5:58PM
The difficulty jump from wrath to cata (or bc to wrath or vanilla to bc) isn't all that big once you've leveled a lot of characters if you're just questing/dungeoning. At least, I'm a prodigious altoholic and don't really pay it too much mind.
The place it's most blindingly obvious is pvp. It's not hard to tell when you've got people in TBC gear in a battleground with people in vanilla leveling gear. Worst of all is the people in cata boe greens in the 75-80 bracket. 3x the health of people in wrath leveling gear and can 1 or 2-shot the people in wrath gear. At that point it's no longer entertaining for the lesser geared players.

"I keep hearing this complaint and, though I may be mistaken, Bloodlust doesn't add the stat Haste, it increases casting/attack speed, which are two different things. As such, Bloodlust should benefit everybody."
I think it does add haste, because it makes rogues generate energy a lot more quickly, which is what haste does, not attack speed (for example, Slice and Dice doesn't increase energy regen, just attack speed). And, as was already mentioned, it does the same thing for DKs with runes. If it doesn't add actual haste, it sure acts like it.

Very non-WoW question: Can someone point to me a very complete polyatomic ion list that's well organized by their net charge? I'm tired of finding ions that aren't on the list we were given by the instructor. PDF (or image) preferred.

Regarding the Realm status update phone app, WoW Insider posted an article about one of these in 2009.

This is the free app that I use though, available in iTunes store:
