In response to Fremastr's question, if you have a twitter account, each server (at least in the US) has a separate Twitter feed that gets automatically updated whenever servers go up and down (it even gives you the downtime for the server!). Just tell your Twitter account to notify you by text message whenever there's a post. You'll get spam from the server going offline as well, but it solves your problem.
