Loosely defined roles? Being able to do pretty much anything you want and not be pressured to do what has the best damage, tanking, or healing ability? That sounds like Rift.Rift is nowhere near as fun as WoW for me, as it is only a fledgling game, but it is FAR more dynamic. Everywhere you look, you have choices. So. Many. Choices. You get 8 "specs" to choose from, and you can combine 3 in any way you like. But with World of Warcraft, either you are the best spec, or you're not. So I feel really let down when they didn't improve that with Cataclysm. Beast Mastery, Frost, and such specs don't suck as much, but still all they really are is a different DPS rotation with slightly different utilities. I really hoped they would diversify classes not by their capacity to fill a role, but by letting their unique abilities set them apart. The game developers have to find that perfect balance between too extreme and too consolidated, no matter what they do, somebody is going to be whining about it. Either it's too easy or too hard.
