I am a long-time member of TheWarCenter's community, the birthplace of DotA in WarCraft 3 and the original hosting location for new releases. This was all back in the original WC3 era, just before the release of The Frozen Throne expansion pack.Eulogy (Eul, as he's commonly known) didn't want to port things over from ROC to TFT. The codebase was a mess, a lot of what made heroes worked would break in the port, and managing two seperate copies of DotA that would be equally balanced was a job he didn't want to do. I still doubt personally that it would have worked.So people took the map, broke the encryption on older versions, and started importing and creating new heroes.Allstars was one of these. I actually had the pleasure of playinga beta version of Allstars when Guinsoo first took the map public, and gave my feedback as an experienced DotA player. I had issues at the time with the obvious importing of entire champions without any real adjustments, as well as the underlying issue of taking other peoples work without credit being given.So fine, whatever. RoC DotA lost popularity in the pub crowd. Whitelist and Blacklist programs took root in both the original and expansion community, and things went down-hill for the community as a whole for it. Various people took on the mantle of caretaker for RoC DotA while Eul worked for a short time on Defense of the Ancients 2: Thirst for Gamma. That went through a slow parade of caretakers as well before finally being resolved and put to rest (with no small part played by myself in ending its slow death). Allstars took its place and the developers working on it stole the crown of "Creators of DotA" for untold years; moving on to make their own MOBAs and dive into the gaming industry.No one mentions Eul. No one talks about the original DotA, the changes in it, or the origins of upgrading items that came from a few sparse items for the original. I suppose it's easier to make Guinsoo and IceFrog the little developers of a hit that made it big, instead of the original developer that put all the work into the baseline that makes their contributions work.Hey, at least it's funny that this isn't the first DotA 2. Right?
