The Queue: Important Mat McCurley super-fan meetup bulletin

The Mat McCurley super-fan group meetup for tonight has been cancelled due to size restrictions on the venue. Too many people wanted to come. We'll get a bigger place for the next one, I promise.
yous95 asked:
The MoP talent calculator was recently updated. On the druid page, I notice that there are now 4 druid specs- the originals and "guardian" a separate spec for the bear tank. Did we know about this upcoming change before, and do you think it's smart of Blizzard to give druids 4 specs while all other classes have 3?
Yes, we knew about this at BlizzCon. Personally, I think it's one of the best changes for the druid and will go a long way in fixing a core broken issue with druids that's been present for seven years. Longevity is key, and Blizzard is making good long-term decisions. Plus, it sets the precedent of adding on specializations to classes. Imagine that ...
Mindor asked:
So, I just noticed portals to Org/Stormwind right next to the dark portal on HFP side. Has this been in the game the entire time?
As far as I remember it, originally these portals were just set dressing. At some point during Wrath of the Lich King, Blizzard activated them for easier transport.
@ecbremner on Twitter asked:
With the blues saying some talents will be turned into glyphs. Will we be getting a new set of glyph slots in MoP?
I have a feeling the glyph system will get a tiny bit of a makeover, especially in terms of what minor glyphs are for and their function, prior to the expansion's release. In fact, I bet we learn a little something about glyphs in March when the press tour begins. Having some talents become glyphs is great because it's another added decision that actually matters in the way you build your class. You might now get to choose from one of three attractive passive bonuses, etc. I think it could work very well, but we just don't have the information yet.
@xvkarbear on Twitter asked:
What changes would you like to see happen to the guild leveling system? What kind of new perks do you want?
I think 10 more guild levels per expansion is a pretty good number to aim for. Two of those can be a pet and a mount, which leaves eight to fill. Add on to existing perks with a new rank or two, and you really only need a couple of new perks for guilds reaching the upper levels. Unlocking new heirlooms would be a good upper-echelon guild reward that I would also like to see.
@blakepirtle on Twitter asked:
did the aspects give up anything else aside from immortality? Will time "catch up" to them you think?
The Aspects gave up their immortality and aspect powers in order to defeat Deathwing. They can most likely live forever anyway, or practically forever, since they are still dragons at the end of the day. They do retain a considerable amount of power as dragons, just not their Savior of Azeroth, No One Messes With Us powers.

Aren't we basically replacing talent trees with glyphs anyway? The term tree isn't really even appropraite come MoP. I forward the motion that we begin calling them talent stumps.

Last night I recieved an email from Blizzard Entertainment, addressed to one of my character names offering 7 free days. "Experience the Fall of Deathwing When You Return to World of Warcraft". Is this email real?
Shinae Feb 17th 2012 4:26PM
Probably not, so just delete it.
There was a time a while back when you could reactive your account for 7 days for free, but I don't think they are doing that at the moment. Phishing emails like to make it look like Blizzard is doing that again, directing people to fake, password-grabbing websites.
Whatever promotions Blizzard is actually doing can be found on their official website, so go there to login and ignore any emails.
Killik Feb 17th 2012 5:01PM
Go to Battle.net's page and check your account there. Sounds like spam though.
VioletArrows Feb 17th 2012 5:54PM
I got one too, it's legit. Not saying you should go ahead and click links in it, though. :p Check the website, but only Blizzard is able to know who your account and website main are. Spam and phishing emails will just have some generic placeholder or erase those lines completely since they've started stealing and copying those emails. Fakes also tend to have the fine print at the bottom messed up (like having expired trial dates at the bottom).
Drakkenfyre Feb 17th 2012 8:07PM
I don't think Blizzard emails even HAVE clickable links to login to your account anymore. When I got my Diablo 3 beta invite, it basically just said you're in, and told me to go to the Battle.net site, without a link, and login to download it.
VioletArrows Feb 17th 2012 8:14PM
@Drakkenfyre They do. The whole email header is one giant link pointing to WoW's account manager page. It's ridiculously confusing and kind of stupid considering how much trouble they go through to teach people to keep their accounts safe.

Is "Guardian" really the best name for a Druid Tank? At the moment, I don't think it's a good fit. 'Guardian' feels better served as the Warrior tank spec (and Templar for Paladin tanks). Protector seems more appropriate (as in, ...of the pack), but doesn't sound right when I say "Protector Druid".
Killik Feb 17th 2012 4:46PM
I think that might be your own, personal idiosyncracy. Guardian sounds fine to me - you get Guardians of Cenarius, you get Guard dogs, seems an okay fit. Warden might work, but it also has connotations of prison wardens.
Shinae Feb 17th 2012 5:06PM
There are already "Guardians of Hyjal" druids.
Noyou Feb 17th 2012 6:36PM
Guardian of Cenarius. Works for me.

I'm personally looking forward to a significant revamp of the Glyph system. I was extremely disappointed in Cataclysm when all the boring talents that were removed from the talent system ended up being Prime Glyphs.
Blizzard has already suggested that Prime Glyphs are likely to get the chop, which hopefully means we'll finally get the much more interesting design for Glyphs that we were teased with back when Glyphs were first announced. Multiple glyphs for each spell, but only one glyph can affect any given spell.
Obviously "every spell" is a bit much. I suspect that there will be Class Glyphs, Spec Glyphs and Cosmetic/Convenience Glyphs.
Whatevery happens, as long as we don't see +crit or +damage glyphs, I will be happy.

First off, I think we can both agree that such a mount would be incredibly unlikely to be implemented, so we're really just arguing on a philosophical level. And if the mount existed it would be so awesome that it would probably cost twenty-five dollars anyway (badump-tish)
So yes, war and slavery are both extremely reprehensible and evil things in real life. I just disagree that one is worse than the other- in both cases you are removing free will from another sentient being, in fact in the case of war the removal is often permanent. Therefore it doesn't make much sense to me that in a game you would do one freely and then have qualms about the other. Yeah in games you can still have a sliding scale of morality in terms of right and wrong, but war and killing is so far at the evil end of the scale that I don't see how you could be okay with that and at the same time decide that slavery is a no-no. That's why I'm arguing in essence to treat it like "it's just a game", because trying to apply real-world ethics to a sandbox game like WoW becomes an exercise in futility if you try to stay philosophically consistent.
Also, you missed half my point, rather understandably because I didn't say it very well. In my opinion by "real world" standards we do much, much worse things than slavery in the standard course of the game, e.g. mind control, torture and soul drain.
In any case the mount would certainly be optional, so you could express your disapproval of the mount by not using it, or hassling people who do (wtb WoW glitterbombing), heck even setting up a WoW version of IJM (International Justice Mission), like DEHTA but instead of protecting animals you protect the opposite faction.
In any case I probably shouldn't talk about being philosophically consistent in WoW: I have absolutely no compunctions about granting lowbies an all-expenses-paid trip to the graveyard for their poor choice of faction, but for some reason the /spit emote really offends me. How's that for dissonance.

I would personally love a pet that allowed you to reforge/transmog/void storage on the go. Mini Ethereal anyone?
nycblackout89 Feb 17th 2012 8:57PM
Will the valentine's pet from the candy box become boe?
intellectspeaks Feb 17th 2012 9:06PM
Would anyone be interested in commenting why the Heart of the Aspects mount in the pet store is BoP to the character that it is sent to, unlike Guardian Cub that was blizzard's experiment in BoE pet sales?
I'm curious as to what others think about the future of the blizzard's pet store as well as if this means the guardian cub was a failed test in uncharted waters.
Noyou Feb 18th 2012 5:29AM
Outside of the Guardian cub, all other Blizzard store purchases have been BoP- but they get sent to everyone of your present and future toons. If it is making gold you are looking for, hopefully you got in on the Love Bird and the peddlefoot pet. Both of those were BoE. Not sure if it is true, but some joker on my server said he sold 3 of them for 19k each. I think the Guardian cub was probably an experiment on a few levels. I think it probably failed it both it's attempt to be a source for players to purchase gold and to reduce any outside gold selling.
