The Queue: Rule of Two
Welcome back to The Queue, the daily Q&A column in which the WoW Insider team answers your questions about the World of Warcraft. Alex Ziebart will be your host today.
Mists of Pandaria feels like it's right around the corner, what with the press event taking place next month and the ongoing signs of an alpha in progress. However, we haven't been able to see any of that quite yet, so it's incredibly difficult to answer questions that include the phrase "in Mists of Pandaria" in them. "In Mists of Pandaria, will we be able to ...?" Who knows!
Hang onto those questions a while longer. Once we've seen more of Mists, we'll happily answer those sorts of questions. In the meantime, if you have questions about the current game, we would love to hear them. It would make writing this thing for you guys every day much easier, and what we write in it will actually be useful to all of you rather than nothing than speculative jibber-jabber.
Now let's hug.
Batlesh asked:
Will Blizzard ever get rid of that super pesky Sith "Rule of Two" obstacle when it comes to forming/entering raids?? Sometimes I just want to farm for old Tier gear without having to harass someone to jump on an alt and log out....
This is another one of those things where I can't say for certain, because I'm not a mind reader. However, this is a change I'd really like Blizzard to make. I absolutely hate bothering friends or guildmates to make a raid group for me when I want to go killing things in an old raid. They have better things to do. Especially if they need to pause their questing to make a raid for me.
@o_philosopho asked:
will we be able to name our companion pets in Mists of Pandaria?
My gut says no, but we don't know for certain either way. We haven't seen the Pet Battle system in action yet. Maybe we'll learn more about it at the Mists of Pandaria press event next month.
@Brennya asked:
do you think Blizzard will do any updates to gems, in regards to epics being raid only, before Mists is released?
This late in the game, I'm not sure there would be a point to that. We aren't gong to be getting new tiers of gear. Upgrading all of the gems in your existing gear just in time to get rid of all of it in Pandaria would be strange. If ever there were a time to do that, it would have been patch 4.3, not a Mists of Pandaria pre-release patch. So no, I don't think Blizzard will do anything with gems anymore this expansion.
@diegosacuna asked:
Any idea whats happened to the N'Zoth storyline?
N'Zoth still lurks in the darkest deeps. The moment you forget about him is the moment madness wins. It is out there, and it is coming.
Do not forget that. Do not ever forget that.

Yes, while you can get into BWL by youself, I wish you luck if you attempt Razorgore (and you have to attempt razorgore) solo. He's difficult enough to 2-man.

@murmaiderxx: This is how it has worked for quite a while. The check to see if you are in a raid party is done when you go through the entrance portal. As soon as you enter, the other player is free to leave the party and go about his business. You can continue inside the raid instance just so long as you don't leave for any reason, including dying.

An Auto-Invite addon is a very good idea, I even modified mine so that I could send the other character a whisper, and it would shut down the other client.
Speaking of the client, I have a shortcut on my desktop that links to:
"D:\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe" -nosound -windowed -800x600
You obviously have to adjust the path. I tried resolutions below 800, but it rarely worked then.
@murmaiderxx/twbrienn: You don't need the raid group once you're inside the raid (unless you wipe and have to run back inside) and you don't get booted from the instance if you are the leader when the group is disbanded. Kick the other character or have them leave, and you don't have any problems.
You can even stay partied with the other character, to chat while you're both doing your own things, since after you entered the raid, you can right-click your portrait and select "Convert To Party" and voila, your party is a non-raid again :)

I'm fact, you don't even need to level your trial account char to 10 in order to use them to form a raid. There's a command to enable low level raids (the exactly command escapes me, though you should be able to find it fairly fast with google). I've been using a level one draenei with the endearing name of "raidmule" to solo low level raids. It's deluxe.
But i STILL can't get prince to cough up the Sunfury Bow of the Phoenix for my hunter. That guy is a jerk.

This may be a Q for the UI column, but here goes:
I frequently have an error message that pops up when I'm playing that says something like "the default UI has blocked that action. Would you like to disable the addon or ignore?"
How do I isolate which addon is causing the problem? It's usually in the midst of a frantic PvP battle that I see the error, so I'm not sure exactly what I'm trying to do that causes the issue. (ie: not sure how to recreate it)
Saikoujin Feb 20th 2012 11:15AM
Well, the next time it pops up, choose to disable it. You should know pretty quickly what addon is causing it if you disable on the fly.
Since it appears that Blizzard's UI is blocking this addon from doing a function (sounds like a forbidden API issue or something), the addon is actually not operating like you think it is (i.e. it's just sitting there), so you might as well uninstall it and find a similar replacement if you can.
Brett Porter Feb 20th 2012 11:20AM
Whenever I've received this error, the message always says what addon is causing the issue. Generally though, it's not something major so I just don't do it.
The time I get it most frequently is trying to set my Focus target via my raid frames (powered by SUF); so instead I just target them, then /focus. /clearfocus works to get rid of it.
xvkarbear Feb 20th 2012 11:20AM
I don't have the option to disable to ignore it.. but I also frequently get this in the middle of a battle.
It never seems to actually hinder anything.
You could turn your addons off one by one and see if you still see the message. That's a tough thing to do though, if you can't easily replicate the problem.
I have an addon that keeps the default userframes from refreshing whenever someone leaves or joins my group. It usually screws up all my mouseover macros because people are no longer in the same spot and I end up healing someone else completely. The problem is that it only seems to happen in a raid group while in the middle of a fight. Making it tricky to pin down without driving tons of people crazy.
Vincentmagius Feb 20th 2012 11:32AM
There is an option under interface to turn on LUA errors. This may let you know which one is giving you the error.
Alternatively, the addons BugSack or !BugGrabber.
Berna Feb 20th 2012 12:07PM
No, don't do that. At least not in the middle of battle! If you choose to disable the addon, your UI will be reloaded, and it will take a looong time, and you will wipe. (Speaking from experience.) Like Brett, I've had this happen to me when I wanted to set a focus via the right-click menu, and you can just type /focus instead.
Other things I've noticed:
1. It isn't always the same addon the game complains about
2. If you disable it, it complains about another one the next time
3. It complains about addons that aren't remotely related to the frame
4. Last time I tried, it worked fine - and I hadn't deinstalled/disabled any addons...

This is CONSTANTLY happening to my Wife. The add-on in question is ArkInventory. Once this error pops up, she's no longer able to use ANYTHING from her bags. We've both been using Ark for years. I've never had this issue, and still don't. Would LOVE some more information on how to trace the issue. Nothing I've done with Ark seems to help.
and please don't suggest AdiBags, I've tried that route, and she didn't like it. She's happy with the Ark rules I setup for her years ago.

I also am plagued by this problem. Power Auras was one of my very favorite (and only) add-ons - I find it invaluable as a feral druid in PvP to monitor Predator's Swiftness, CD on Tiger's Fury, etc. - but it seems to disable my ability to /focus targets. Even worse, it causes the built in raid-frames to bug when I'm in big encounters (like LFR DS25), and as a healer this can be a pretty big issue. I find it a great challenge to be super-awesome without Power Auras, but so it goes.
icepyro Feb 20th 2012 1:55PM
I use Power Auras on all my toons all the time with no issues in any group or raid or bg or solo. I do experience the focus bug which is why I made a keybind to focus my target (it's in keybinds after all and ctrl+shift+f has nothing better to do). You can also target someone and /focus to do it manually.
Another common issue is trying to /inspect people. Once they get out of range, or into combat, and especially if they are from another server, things get screwy fast. You can ignore this error with no problems, but if you constantly have it, then something is trying to inspect people.
So make sure all your addons are up to date. The focus thing has been around forever, as has the inspect thing, so just ignore those (well if you have something trying to inspect everyone, I would question why you need this). If you are having problems outside of this, then try not loading everything and slowly adding another once you are sure it's not that.
Addon Control panel is your friend for this. Good luck.
Talarian Feb 20th 2012 2:21PM
@icepyro: I actually have the following macro'ed into my Entangling Roots/Hibernate/Cyclone spells:
/clearfocus
/focus
/cast XXXXXX
And I still have the problem. I update Power Auras every time the game patches, and yet it persists. I've mostly come to deal with it by just not using Power Auras, which brings me great sadness.
Philster043 Feb 20th 2012 4:25PM
I get an error now and then where it says: "Interface action failed because of an add-on." It used to be MUCH more frequent pre-Cataclysm, while I was playing WotLK. I was a little confused and disturbed by it at first, and tried to disable all my add-ons, couldn't pinpoint the source, and then stopped caring. After Cataclysm and having to update all my add-ons, now it only happens once in a moon, but it still happens. It's weird, but hey, as long as it's not interfering with my gameplay...
Dunno if it's a related problem, just thought I'd mention it.
Philster043 Feb 20th 2012 4:27PM
Though if I were to venture a guess, I'd say it's DBM. That is the only add-on that I can think of that I have that would do that.
Amoracchia Feb 20th 2012 11:06AM
Molten Core already allows you to enter without a raid group.
hwacha Feb 20th 2012 12:48PM
I keep seeing this, and yet every week, without fail, I can not enter without forming a raid group.
Revynn Feb 20th 2012 1:52PM
@ hwacha -
Are you trying to enter through the BRD entrant or through the attuned entrance in the center of the mountain? I've tried both and I've only had success going through the attuned entrance, but it's been very consistent for me and I run MC at least 3 times a week on different characters. (Blizzard is trolling me, I have enough bindings spread across multiple times to complete 3 Thunderfurys, but haven't finished one in almost 2 years.)
