An Auto-Invite addon is a very good idea, I even modified mine so that I could send the other character a whisper, and it would shut down the other client.
Speaking of the client, I have a shortcut on my desktop that links to:
"D:\World of Warcraft\WoW.exe" -nosound -windowed -800x600
You obviously have to adjust the path. I tried resolutions below 800, but it rarely worked then.
@murmaiderxx/twbrienn: You don't need the raid group once you're inside the raid (unless you wipe and have to run back inside) and you don't get booted from the instance if you are the leader when the group is disbanded. Kick the other character or have them leave, and you don't have any problems.
You can even stay partied with the other character, to chat while you're both doing your own things, since after you entered the raid, you can right-click your portrait and select "Convert To Party" and voila, your party is a non-raid again :)
