Either Grom or Brox is coming back. Because he'd never bring back an Alliance hero.
jeansteffano Feb 20th 2012 9:30PM
I don't think he's talking about WoW.. He is mentioning Warcraft 3 on those posts...
I really think we'd have a good time playing around with Uther or The Grand Magus Antonidas.
Antonidas would be sooo nice! It can even relate with Jaina's lore.
jeansteffano Feb 20th 2012 9:33PM
Bah, wait a moment there, it's Aegwynn.
She has already came back in the manga....
Luotian Feb 21st 2012 9:15AM
He said character, not hero. Jump on the Illidan bandwagon please :D.
Sebastian H Feb 20th 2012 9:09PM
Hmmm could those tweets mean that they really are thinking of finding a way to bring illidan back? I remember they mentioned wanted to do that at blizzcon and with those two tweets asking about dead characters and Warcraft 3 I'd say there's a good chance we will be seeing illidan in mists.
If I remember right we bring back a demon hunter in the blasted lands, maybe to bring illidan back we need to create some sort of clensing ritual to take his demonic powers and taint away? Just makes me even more excited for mists
Arrohon Feb 20th 2012 9:29PM
Sorry, there's no bringing a demon hunter Illidan back if you remove the taint. All demon hunters are tainted. Illidan more so than most. Think of demon hunters like Dragon Age's Grey Wardens. They take on the taint of their enemy to be better able to defeat it.

I meant the taint of the skull of guldan that he ate. (at least i think thats what he did right?)
And i know he would still have to have his eyes burned out and such to be a demon hunter, the reason i believe he would need some sort of cleanse is because he took it way to far and grew wings and even horns.
Then again he could be brought back as is.
Anyways i still hope they bring him back.

Well...there are panda faces on his glaives (in WC3).
Cyno01 Feb 21st 2012 2:17AM
Heh, taint.

It would be weird if Illidan did not come back. He's a demon, and he's had the Burning Legion hunting him for a decade nearly chasing him across worlds. The same Legion that tore the soul from Nerzhul's body and tortured it with countless agonies before imbuing that soul in a helm within a chunk of ice.
I imagine the moment Illidan's head was removed by Maive that his soul was cast into the void and the Legion could have been waiting for him to see his debts paid.
I think there's plenty of wiggle room to right an interesting story from a concept similar to this, we've got this mysterious order of demon hunters implied in the new Darkshore chain as the Dark Embrace, and the new Felwood chain exploring demon hunter's and their view of Illidan, it could all tie in well with a future demon hunter faction or playable class to be explored.
Suzaku Feb 21st 2012 6:16AM
Removing Illidan's demonic taint would effectively remove what's interesting and compelling about the character, if you ask me.
And logically, he should still exist in the Twisting Nether, as powerful demons can supposedly only be truly killed on their homeworld.
My personal take on the story for his resurrection would be that the Dark Embrace is a guild of Demon Hunters which has operated in the shadows of history for nearly 10,000 years, and in the face of [new evil being], seek to revive Illidan, the strongest of their ilk.
To do so, they must locate and sacrifice Maiev, whose unnatural hatred for Illidan has served as a tether between his soul and the mortal plane. Her death acts as the catalyst for Illidan's return, and with her dying breath she sees him revived, knowing that her quarry has forever escaped her.
Illidan then takes command of the Dark Embrace, leading the organization as a solid anti-hero character, at times cooperating and opposing the game's players, aiding in the battle against the [evil forces] but clearly pursuing his own ulterior motives.

All demon hunter develop a demonic form, it just takes time. Illidan was the first, so he had more time. The skull certainly did accelerate it though. This (and most demon hunter knowledge) is from the RPG books though. Nothing has proven it either canon or non-canon so it's in a weird place. http://www.wowpedia.org/Demon_hunter
GuyverIV Feb 21st 2012 5:45PM
@Arrohon
Actually, my understanding is that all the RPG books are Non-Canon. They may have some interesting ideas in there, but when in doubt you have to assume that Bliz isn't paying attention to the RPG books.
I *do* want to add my support for the idea of bringin' Illy-D back, either in a proper, END raid format as a Big Bad, maybe having caused a rift in the Burning Legion, or as a shadowy, manipulative, repentant guardian of Azeroth.
Maybe he and Medivh could start a union?
Schadenfreude Feb 21st 2012 2:38PM
I have a pet theory that Illidan will be returning in 6.0, Beyond Outland, as the head of the hero class Demon Hunter faction, but I am pretty crazy.
Cam Feb 20th 2012 9:09PM
Omg, they're going to bring Illidan back aren't they?
Pam Feb 21st 2012 9:18AM
I hope so!!!! *heart*

In coming tons of Cairne votes...
Me?
My vote would be for Kael.
Yes, you heard me.
Ilidan would be my other vote.
Noyou Feb 21st 2012 12:15AM
1000x Cairne. And this is from someone who plays Alliance 99% of the time. A CoT instance to bring him back would be effing stellar.

Sylvanas Windrunner. Wouldn't that be... awkward?
