Breakfast Topic: What's the best race for each class?

Of course, the first response I have is that there is no best race for each class. I mean, let's look at shaman for a second; an Alliance shaman can only be a draenei or a dwarf. Now, I personally think that a draenei shaman is just right somehow -- I really can't explain it -- and it was a really big decision for me to switch my shaman from a draenei to a dwarf. I did it for Stoneform, OK?
To me, paladins should be human. Warlocks should be undead. Rogues? Hmm, worgen, I think. You'll note how there is absolutely no justification whatsoever for these choices -- it's just a feeling that these are the best races for these classes. They're the races that fit, somehow, absolutely and completely personal to me and not relating to anyone else's point of view! There's no logic to it.
Orcs should be warriors. They're strong, powerful-looking characters; an orc mage or warlock would just be wrong somehow. Again, this is deeply personal, and I wouldn't have any issue with someone who felt an orc warlock was a perfect class/race combo!
What do you think? Am I spouting utter nonsense? (Wouldn't be the first time.) What do you think are great race/class combos, and which are wrong -- or worse, creepy?

After playing in my 6th year, I am still impressed by a gnome ... tank.
Cool.

The only thing dumber than a gnome tank is a gnome (insert role).
Ragnuk Feb 21st 2012 8:06AM
Tauren rogue is the best for sure.

I think that any type of caster can be played fantastically by gnomes ; warlock gnome equals awesome !
Revnah Feb 21st 2012 8:07AM
Everyone should be a troll.
(biased, moi?? Nevah!)
durandal Feb 21st 2012 9:02AM
Absolutely right, mon. All classes that can be played by trolls are good classes. Paladins? Nah. Leave da bubbles to da pussies.
Pazazu Feb 21st 2012 10:42AM
Once you go troll, you never re-roll.

No bias here at all, but we do have tusks.
Camo Feb 21st 2012 8:08AM
Well, it depends on whether you go after how it "feels" or if the racials are the best for your setting.

Mage - Draenei
Paladin - Human
Priest - Draenei
Shaman - Tauren
Rogue - Gnome
Warkock - Worgen
Warrior - Orc

Ragen Feb 21st 2012 9:03AM
That is either some epic trolling, or the best typo ever.
+1 either way

Priest - humans dwarfs
Mage - humans gnomes
Warlock - human orc

Warrior - this is the only class that screams many races: Orc, Tauren, dwarf, human, nelf, human
Paladin - dwarf human squid
DK - human dwarf, very few orcs

As I really don't care about racials, I'll base my opinion on my knowledge of lore (which is heavily horde biased)...
Tauren are in my opinion the most obvious race for Paladins with their veneration of the sun (An'she I think). As soon as they became available, I rolled my Sunwalker.
Called Tauradin (yeah, yeah, I know...)
Orcs are the most obvious Shaman as far as I am concerned, as they have a long history of being in tune with nature and the elements. Ok, so do Tauren, but I gave them Paladins ;-)
Undead get shadow priests and warlocks, and blood elves strike me as perfect for mages.

Actually, I think Tauren are the worst fit for a paladin out of all the available races.
A paladin is not only a holy warrior or some dude with ideals, he is deeply rooted in a religious and quasi-feudal order. A paladin is a heavily armoured knight, a commander in a standing army, a part of a well-organized system, be it a kingdom or a specific paladin order. That's what separates the paladin from other "warriors with a twist".
Tauren come from a mostly nomadic culture, that lacks the structure that give rise to the knightly ideal and supports paladins well. Tauren are a great fit for shaman, who in my opinion fill the role of warrior/spiritual adivisor/protector for a more tribal society perfectly, but paladins only make sense if you seriously compromise what it means to be a paladin. It's the same reason, why, for example, human shaman would just be weird.
