Yak mounts lumbering your way in Mists of Pandaria

We were actually just discussing what the pandaren mount might be when this news came out. Blizzard joked about it at BlizzCon, with its mockup of a pandaren mount as a huge bouncy ball with a seat on top. Mat McCurley's personal opinion is (verbatim) "probably, like, a big frog maybe?" I feel it'll probably be something a little more dignified. Like a rickshaw.
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is the next expansion, raising the level cap to 90, introducing a brand new talent system, and bringing forth the long-lost pandaren race to both Horde and Alliance. Check out the trailer and follow us for all the latest MoP news!

I have to agree. Looking at the two next to each other like that . . . it just kinda fits.

I bet that guy is the vendor for the yak mounts!

Awesome! I'm all for more big, lumbering ground mounts. Every time I'm in Nagrand, I still get a little bummed that we don't have rideable Clefthoof.

I dunno why bit ive always pictured monks (even if they re pandarens lol) riding a simply old donkey 50% cute-50% stuborn.

I would dearly love if we could get another level of riding skill where we could break our own mounts.

I want a stegadon mount. :D
Malnore Feb 21st 2012 10:02PM
Does this mean we can use Taunka as mounts?
shadowhowl1900 Feb 21st 2012 10:03PM

"Yak mounts? In my Asia-inspired continent? It's more likely than you think, according to Blizzard community rep Bashiok."
I'm not sure if you were implying that this is a geographical misstep on Blizzard's part, but Yaks are actually native to highland China and other areas geographically nearby (Himalayas, Mongolia). So they actually perfectly fit with the geographical location.

It's actually a meme, started from an ad banner that said somthing like "Malware? On MY pc? It's more likely than you think. Click here for a free check!"

Yay! Yay! Yaaaaay!
Yak! Yak! Yaaaaak!
Cameroo Feb 22nd 2012 12:22AM
Yakkity Yak!
Don't talk back. ;)
Levi Feb 21st 2012 11:20PM
was gonna start with "but...but, yaks are native to Asia..." but Tinkereena beat me to it. i'd love to see this though, even if my gpu is crying at the thought of rendering highly textured yak fur AND panda fur AND sparkly things @ the same time.
Cameroo Feb 22nd 2012 12:21AM
Yeah, I'm ok with this. :) A nice yak to have my Tauren pally trot around on sounds aces.
Teresa Feb 22nd 2012 12:47AM
Yaks arent the panderan racial mount? There's like few other animals to ride that are bigger and fatter than they are. I guess they can ride Devilsaurs. *shrug*
Snuzzle Feb 22nd 2012 7:43AM
But.... pandarens aren't especially large. The Wiki puts them at about the same height as humans, though much fatter admittedly. Nothing near a tauren or draenei.
Ametrine Feb 22nd 2012 2:20AM
200g says that guy is the yak vendor.
...man, the words "yak vendor"... there's just no way to not make that sound bizarre.

Yak mounts??!! As a member of a guild named (http://eu.battle.net/wow/en/guild/arathor/The%20Royal%20Kilted%20Yaksmen/) I think my jaw just hit the floor...
