hystrico asked:
any word on recipes in MoP? Like, should I be stocking up on Chef's Awards?
I had an issue with the original removal of the limit on Chef's Awards because of just this question. Obviously we have no idea how the new recipes and stuff will work for new dailies and all that, but one of the reasons I liked the limit on how many awards you could store up was because it kept that currency artificially deflated. When Blizzard removed that limit, everyone stocked up on Chef's Awards, so how do you fairly price new recipes with that currency? Who do you design for -- the guy who saved up 2,000 Chef's Awards or the guy who didn't? Which is fair?
Personally, I'd like to see Blizzard reinstate the limit, making one currency for each profession's dailies and recipe purchases and simplifying the whole thing once and for all. Hoarding tokens isn't fun, just like hoarding points isn't fun. Well, it's kind of fun.
Someone interrupted my writing of the last paragraph on AIM with:
So, what's this I keep hearing about March and press and Mists of Pandaria?
Blizzard has announced a Mists of Pandaria press tour kicking off in March with a big press something-or-other and promises of lots of new information about the next expansion. This fact has led us all to speculate on what that timing could mean for a release date or projected release window. Press is a big deal in the video game industry, because hype is absolutely everything. The more you penetrate the mainstream media with stories about tons of gamers lining up or huge events, the better.
So the press tour begins in March, which means we're going to get the "face" of Mists of Pandaria then. What do I mean? I mean we will see the pitch. Here's what is new and exciting, Blizzard will tell us, and we will respond. We've already been shown the premise, but now we need to see the pitch. Show us those character models, Blizzard. You know you want to.
@eresin84 on Twitter asked:
Did things move pretty quick between Aggra and Thrall? She's preggers at the end of DW fight.
Thrall and Aggra have been together for an ... acceptable period of time, I would think. We don't know what's cool in orcish culture with kids and all that, so we just speculate. Hey, Chris Metzen, where's my rulebook and reference guide on orc societal mating customs and premarital lifemate shamanism? I need it to answer this question.
@credgett on Twitter asked:
who is Tyrygosa that is mentioned during the DS raid? I havent come across her in game before
Tyrygosa is a blue dragon that featured prominently in The Sunwell Trilogy. She is at the Wyrmrest Temple helping to defend against Deathwing. Check out her Wowpedia page.
People on Twitter asked me:
Wait, is there really going to be a WoW Insider Show Podcast panel at PAX East this year?
Yes. We will have more details for you soon.

There is a working 64bit client exe but it's not automatically installed as part of a patch yet. You have to specifically download it from blizzard (there are 3 files I believe).
I haven't got the link handy, but you can find it easily by doing a search.
I've been running it fine since just after 4.3.2 hit.
Faith Trust Feb 22nd 2012 11:55AM
It is out, it comes in a zip you have to download from the forums.
You extract the contents to your wow folder and run the launcher with admin privileges to enable the 64 option in the config, this only needs to be done the first time you run it.
I've been running it for a while now with no issues at all.
Tbah Feb 22nd 2012 12:00PM
You have to download it separately from Blizz and then manually unpack it. It's only the client, which means the file is only about 7MB in size.

Yup been using it for weeks and I've had a lot better results from switching.
Saikoujin Feb 22nd 2012 12:16PM
Thank you all for your input and assurances! It'll be nice to have the x64 version up and running. :-)
Tri Feb 23rd 2012 8:05AM
Keep in mind that it's not yet supported by blizzard as it's still in development :)

Do you think the portals to the Cata zones will be removed from Stormwind and Orgrimmar when MoP launches?
Killik Feb 22nd 2012 11:28AM
That's an interesting question. You'd imagine not, as the zones are so far-flung across the world that travel would be a tremendous pain in the ass. Also, you'd never be able to return to Deepholme.
The portals were removed from Shattrath and Dalaran because they linked to capital cities, which always remain relevant to current content. The Cataclysm portals shouldn't offer much of an advantage getting to Pandaria.
dazziq Feb 22nd 2012 11:29AM
I was wondering this as well.
Every region can be accessed via flightpaths, except for Deepholm. They'd at least need to create an alternate portal or method of transportation there.

There's the 'Potion of Deepholme' every alchemist can brew. It carries you straight to Deepholme.
Vash'jr however, that'll be a lot more difficult to access without a portal. There's a flight path to EK, but it takes ages to get there.
(cutaia) Feb 22nd 2012 11:48AM
The SW portals are:
a) not going affect where 85+ players set their hearths (as the Dalaran portals might have done during this expansion)
b) useful to 80-85 players who will still need to level through Cataclysm content. Those portals keep the high-level Cataclysm zones somewhat connected as if they were a continent of their own.
I don't think we'll see them going anywhere.
AltairAntares Feb 22nd 2012 12:05PM
You can fly to Vashji'r from SW, you'll get the debuff from traveling too far out from land, but you won't actually take damage from it. (which begs the question, what happens if you try to do that on an account that doesn't bought cata yet?)
Arrohon Feb 22nd 2012 3:51PM
You flap your wings and stay grounded. Old world flying is Cata only (to everyone's disdain when 4.0.3a hit).
Skozz Mar 7th 2012 12:24AM
Any chance that the press event might be the time that Blizzard says, "Hey, it's Mists of Pandaria Beta time!"? Seems like a decent enough reason to not leak information. Something like how, at E3, companies go, "And you can download it TODAY!"
Revynn Feb 22nd 2012 11:29AM
Unlikely. MMO-Champion is speculating that they're still in the Internal Alpha, and not even the F&F testing yet. They'll probably give clues to a timeframe when we an start expecting Beta passes, but it's still too early to see Beta.
zackwbrandon Feb 22nd 2012 12:02PM
With history as a guide, past press releases have occurred within a month of the actual beta keys going out. However, this is the new accelerated Blizzard we are talking about, and this is the biggest year in gaming for a long while (over 20 HUGE AAA titles on the horizon by November). Therefore it would be unwise to do more than speculate that we will hear more in March and that it will either confirm an anticipated date for beta to start or will hint at where they are with alpha.
Me personally, based on nothing more than my interest in the franchise and trying my hand at some pet battles on my main: beta will be simultaneous to the press tour! Let me dream... curse you all! :-)
Lipstick Feb 22nd 2012 11:17AM
I read somewhere that the quest chain where we save thrall and the follow up in Hyjal was Aggra and Thrall getting married. So apparently they fit some time to get making with love sometime between then, and when we killed DW.
Thiron Feb 22nd 2012 11:29AM
If you look on the map in Dragon Soul, there are 3 maws, but we only get to fight in 2 of them. So what's the deal with the last one?
Shinae Feb 22nd 2012 11:32AM
The one to the north of the Temple doesn't come into play in the DS raid, but it's part of the guantlet in HoT. There is an invisible wall around it so we can't get inside. (I've tried.)
