The Queue: When is the MoP beta starting?

Today's Queue has a question for you, as well as some of my thoughts on the issue. When is the Mists of Pandaria beta starting?
A press tour is happening next month. Some sort of internal alpha testing is going on now, and assuming a mid- to late-summer release, my guess is that the beta test will happen some time in April, which would give three to four months of testing before it's released (July or August).
And that leads directly to the first question in The Queue today ...
Skozz asked:
Any chance that the press event might be the time that Blizzard says, "Hey, it's Mists of Pandaria Beta time!"? Seems like a decent enough reason to not leak information. Something like how, at E3, companies go, "And you can download it TODAY!"
I doubt it. We know Blizzard's got an internal alpha going on that's most likely only accessible within Blizzard HQ, and we know that Mists was in a nicely polished state at BlizzCon 2011. However, that's a long way off from a public beta, especially one that more than 1 million players from the Annual Pass are going to be playing. As I said above, I'd think April (or May at the high end).
Puntable asked:
Why can't all loot be deposited directly into your bags, like it does with loot from bosses?
There are a couple of good reasons.
First, it stops gold farmers and botters from easily farming massive piles of mobs. Of course, computer-aided clicking gets around this, but that kind of behavior is detected a lot easier than one click to loot everything would be.
Second, it provides a natural pause in the gameplay. While you might not like such breaks, the pauses are necessary in order to have a good flow. You want action, then a break, then some action, then a break, and so on ... Without it, you'll get constant killing and play, and that will lead to burnout both in the short and long term. It's to Blizzard's advantage to have some natural low points in the action, and this is one of them. (So are turning in quests, transportation, selling grays.)
Saikoujin asked:
Whatever happened to WoW x64? I know there was a big hullabaloo about it when the patch dropped a few weeks ago, but was it ever *actually* released? I seem to recall it being pulled. Or is it there, but only as a 'use at your own discretion, not yet fully supported' feature? I'd love to use the x64 version, but only once it's been fully vetted.
It's out, but it's just in a beta state. Take a look at our post for the download links. I've been running it constantly, and I'm having no problem. In fact, I've noticed a frame rate increase and overall faster loading times. Quite nice for my raids.
Puntable also asked:
Do you think the portals to the Cata zones will be removed from Stormwind and Orgrimmar when MoP launches?
No. They're necessary to get to the places without having to pull your hair out. Think of trying to get to Vashj'ir on your own, without a portal. I'd rather not, in a big way.
Blizzard removed the other portals from Shat and Dalaran so players wouldn't use them as their home cities anymore. Players are never going to use Vashj'ir as their home base, so there's no real reason to remove them. They'll end up being used in MoP in the same way the portal to the Dark Portal is used now.

Yes and no.
Yes, I think you're right in that people are expecting to get into closed beta when it's more likely they'll only see the open beta a month-ish before lauch when Blizz is mostly just stress testing servers and buckling down for release. The closed beta will still be the playground of proven testers from past expansions, bloggers and internet celebs (for hype) and a handful of randomly chosen opt-ins.
However, I don't think they're as far along as you're implying. We know they're in an internal alpha phase right now, but even the strongest NDA wouldn't keep us from at least knowing that something beyond that was going on. We'll hear something when F&F starts, even if it's nothing more than "Friends and Family Alpha is now underway" and then complete silence for two months.

What's the best song to play while doing Gnomebliteration?
Is Yakety Sax too clichéd?

about the question of loot going right into your bags-
i was making a macro for ambush with premeditation, for my leveling rogue, and as an afterthought i threw in Pick Pocket. when it succeeds at 1-shotting things (and at level 38 it works quit a bit) it automatically loots instead of picking their pockets. not sure how or why, i'm none too good with macros. but since its useful, so i left it that way.
maybe its cause the mobs are dead before the pickpocket resolves? i dunno. just thought i'd add my 2c

Why is it that when I run my 64-bit client of WoW, I tend to get a lower framerate? I've heard everywhere that running the 64-bit client should make the whole experience smoother. I even have all the settings on low... Any thoughts would be awesome.

You need more RAM. You probably only have 4GB or less.
VioletArrows Feb 23rd 2012 8:26PM
For starters we don't know anything about your computer. x64 doesn't run well on 4GB or less, despite what the minimum requirements are.
Jebediah54 Feb 24th 2012 1:39AM
Yup, that'd explain it... stupid computer >.>

I would advise turning OFF your Vertical Sync, with that off my framerates skyrocketted!!

I have a question for the queue- I'm thinking of creating and leveling a new character on a new server- is there any server (faction really doesn't matter) that's widely considered to be at "just the right spot" with faction balance/people being decent/overcrowding etc? Every realm forum I look at people always seem to be frustrated with their server.

Q4TQ: Do you think Blizzard will ever make it so we can purchase old xpac's rep? Perhaps another gold sink, and lets be honest, no-one can be bothered grinding Netherwing/Argent Tournament and such..............
anon e moose Feb 24th 2012 8:15AM
Speak for yourself. A lot of ppl still grind the AT and ppl still grind netherwing rep - usually by egg hunting now the areas not very well populated (usually for rep achievements, mounts or pets)
Plus i cant see it tbh - otherwise the 'Insane' title would have been bought by many more people, its not like Rep is NEEDED for anything but achievements - well old world rep - so basically all you seem to want to do is to buy more achievements. Im probably wrong on the last count - but hey 2 outta 3 aint bad

Thanks guys, I hadn't tried that.

Question: At the footer for The Queue, there is the question mark picture. A) Was that taken in the Storm Peaks B) Is there a Full version of that picture out there somewhere?
