Italian version of WoW coming soon
Blizzard continues with their localization efforts, this time bringing bringing WoW to Italy.
Sometime soon (later this year) WoW Italy will launch with a language pack for EU versions of the game, translated versions of the official WoW website and forums, and new Italian realms.
We noted this might be a possibility back in 2009 when some positions opened up with specific Italian language requirements. The full Blizzard announcement as follows:

We have exciting news for our many Italian players: you will soon be able to play WoW in your native language!
Existing players will be able to download a free language pack to experience the game in Italian when it launches later this year.
Gamers in Europe will also be able to purchase fully localized versions of World of Warcraft (which now includes its first expansion, The Burning Crusade) and its three following expansions, Wrath of the Lich King, Cataclysm, and the upcoming Mists of Pandaria.
The games will be available for purchase at retail and digitally through your Battle.net account.
Of course, the official World of Warcraft website and forums will be offered in Italian, and we'll also be opening up Italian realms!
Stay tuned for more information on a release date in the coming months.

Blizzard needs to take it one step further - WoW in Latin!
Terra Artis Bellator!

Imagine all of the guild names in English that wouldn't make any sense...

Incredibile

It's a-me, Deathwingo!

So all we would have to do is jump over him and grab the axe to beat him right?
Dennis Feb 24th 2012 12:20PM
I can't wait for the Greek version. You'll start off in debt, and only receive half the loot.
chefjr3 Feb 24th 2012 12:50PM
This is so full of win its ridiculous. And all the orgrimmar peons will riot!!
fudge Feb 24th 2012 12:52PM
Nah, you'll get double the loot for no work at all for the first years, but after the Cataclysm caused by Deathwing and subprime mortgage bundling, your economy really tanks and everybody but you realizes that the way you've been living is really quite unsustainable, at which point a coalition formed by Garrosh Hellscream and Varian Wrynn will take all of the gear you have and all your future loot from you.
You protest this, violently so, but deep in your heart, you know that they're right, which makes you even angrier and as this is the World of Warcraft and not the real world (nor the Real World), you set fire to some new continent the Cataclysm unveiled.
Garrosh and Varian tell you to cut the crap and leave those poor pandas alone, but what are they going to do, they already have all your gear, loot, gold and dignity.
After a lot of panda killing, you (and Varian and Garrosh) realize that war is really great for business and your credit rating is once again stable, enabling you to live large once more.
Until the next economic cataclysm hits, that is.

Mille grazie!

I dare say the prospect of not being screamed at in Italian in heroics or LFR is something of great interest to me.
Berna Feb 24th 2012 12:50PM
I hope they do a Dutch version one day, and I get to work on the translation. That would be a dream job!

So goblins won't just talk like a buncha goodfellas, they'll actually speak in the mother tongue. Here we go....
Reservoir Feb 24th 2012 1:18PM
Hopefully they'll move from my server and I'll be spared the /2 occasional spam. The funny thing is that I can speak Italian and what they are talking about is just non-sense and offensive.

With the 150mil per month income, i say it's about time! This game should have every localization under the sun. Instead, open source programs have more language coverage. It's quite surprising, considering how much MORE money they would make if they had all their bases covered.
Either way, congrats Italian speakers who can't read this anyway =) (If they can, they're probably O.K. without the language pack)
Derek Feb 24th 2012 2:24PM
Well, if they were only translating the text, I'd tend to agree. However, WoW language packs include all the voice acting as well, and that's no small feat. After all, it's not so much "get it done" as "get it done very well, with the polish you expect from Blizz." That's my guess, anyway.

In this version King Varian is surrounded by naked level 18 human females?
fudge Feb 24th 2012 3:02PM
Bunga bunga.
Eldoron Feb 24th 2012 1:28PM
Finally... EU-Hakkar is a nightmare, whenever we get players from there (Dungeon Finder or BG) it's almost always idiots who can't speak English or play the game properly (sorry but it's true)

what a bunch of stereotypes... kids are kids anywhere and those from other countries are no different. That kind of thinking only leads to prejudice.
I've seen/read just as many bullshits by players of various servers so don't blame italians only...
