"There should be a reason for people to want to try and get that many people together and work with those varied personalities, something that makes it viable and makes it worth it." This line struck out at me, because on one hand this is a statement true for all raiding. World of Warcraft I think will die en mass when there is no longer a compelling reason to raid. Looking towards the future, I believe strongly that World of Warcraft itself will die when/if raiding stops being produced. PVP has the chance to sustain it's shelf life but at that point, it's just circling the drain. There's a couple factors I think which are at work here, and it's not just a convenience factor which is causing 25's to die.The first issue I really see with 25's is that you can not run both 10s and 25s. Clearly they've developed the technology via LFR to make it so that people can only obtain loot once per boss. One way to potentially revitalize the 25's is to instill this sort of loot between 10s and 25s, so that it allows for people to take the stress off of loot, when making a choice. I don't know about everyone else, but back in wrath I was a heck of a lot happier being able to make the choice to do my main raid with my guild's group and then join friends from other guilds in a pug scenario later in the week. It really kind of sucks when you don't care/want loot but want to be able to enjoy content -- not to be able to, due to the raid lock out feature. It gave people who had too much time to kill in wow, something more to do at max level.This sort of thing ended up being really good for the community on realms too. When alts of the top guild on the server hosted weekly 10 or 25 alt runs there was a certain aspect of "giving back to the community" involved in this sort of thing. A certain kind of nepotism, of those on top helping those they are close with rise to a similar level. In many ways this allowed guilds at the top, to help train their recruits of tomorrow. Or at least gave them the ability to test out new apps, and gave raid leaders more options than they simply have today.The feedback I as a player have given the dev's is that they're making this game feel far too impersonal, far too single-player, which in turn is creating a me-me-me mentality in it's player base. Think about it honestly for a minute here. Questing has been designed so you 99.9% of the time never need to group with anyone, ever, to accomplish anything. What do you do when you hit max level? You run heroics ad nausem until your ilvel is high enough to get in the next set of heroics, and then the set after that, until you're able to cue for raid finder. Then once a week you run raid finder or BH.Then what do you do? You try looking for a raiding guild. What are your options for this? Realm forums? This means wading through pages and pages of guilds many of whom are very far progressed beyond where you're at experience wise. Or you hit up wow-progress, and check out some of the guilds on your realm who are making progress. If you're lucky they might be recruiting for your class.. or worse still you ask in trade chat. By making realms open as much as they have, they've in effect made them smaller. I'm sure you meet hundreds if not thousands of players through that experience in LFR/LFD but how many times do you actually ever have a conversation in those groups? Most if not all of the time the conversation is limited to a particular pull, or a silent head-nod from one player to the next as if to acknowledge we're all hamsters running on our cage. You compound these issues with the guild leveling system, and it's no wonder why 10s are more popular. People simply know less people than they use to. Less realm pugs = harder to get to know whose out there, harder to test apps, guild perks/leveling makes people less willing to give new guilds/groups a shot and no matter what realm you go to, there seems to be a constant over-whelming attitude by every player that you meet that their realm sucks. My guild recently transferred to a realm we're actually quite happy on -- but 95% of the realm couldn't believe we transferred there. When frankly there is nothing wrong with the realm we are on at all. -- Another reason 25's are a dying art is that not everyone's computer can handle 25's the same way they can 10s. Wow has a low entry rate compared to a lot of games, but over time it has steadily made improvements and increased requirements, and not everyone can afford to, or even knows how to update their computer. ---------------For me, I don't raid 25's despite having an okay computer for a lot of reasons. The biggest for me is wanting to feel as if I know who I am raiding with. I was in a HM ICC25 guild back in wrath and it felt like being lonely in a crowded room. With a smaller scale, you get to know people in a more intimate way. I know when one of my raiders isn't performing up to snuff cause they're fighting with their girlfriend, under financial strain, or a family member is sick. It always felt like 10 people did all the work and 25 people coasted. For me, 10s just feels more comfortable. I feel like wow as a whole has lost it's community, and our small guild is my own way of rebelling against that somehow. As if small groups of friends are all in our life boats, after the titanic has gone down. We tend to cling to one another and avoid getting too large because we're happy to have become our own little army/tribe/club/community. What little outside interaction we get through LFD/LFR/trade chat is often full of the worst parts of the wow community, so it doesn't make any of us want to venture into it more than we have to.I'm sure I am not the only one who feels this way.If anything I would wish for Blizzard to do away with both 10s and 25's and just have 15 mans in Mists. I feel like it would meet most people in the middle and would reduce how many levels of a raid tier they have to balance, especially based on the fact they've added LFR to the 10/10H 25/25H list of raids which require tuning. If they could just make it LFR/15N/15H they could hopefully focus more on quantity and quality instead of just a handful of bosses and quality.
