Brunhila gave us the heads up about Kingslayer, for which I am incredibly grateful. Written and performed by Lance Lindley, Kingslayer is a lament for the ease with which you pick up the eponymous title in contemporary WoW. While I don't have a stake in the issue itself, this video blew me away.
Kingslayer is astounding, even if you're not normally a thrash metal fan. Lindley put together very strong lyrics and knocked the performance completely out of the park. This is exactly the kind of original creation we love to see. Thanks to Lindley for the awesome music, and thanks to Brunhila for bringing it to our attention. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! Have suggestions for machinima we ought to feature? Toss us an email at moviewatch@wowinsider.com.
I've been waiting a long time for someone to do a custom track like this. While I enjoyed the song itself, I can't help but feel the video really does not match up to it. I guess it's more of a music showcase than a machinima showcase, but in my eyes, thrash metals doesn't go with slow, sweeping shots.
The performance though, I enjoyed. Nice to see some originality!
I wish it had subtitles. I missed a lot of the song, since I have trouble making out the words. I hope the lyrics might be posted on the video sometime? :)
Lyrics to this song were absolutely spot-on perfect. I, too, am not a huge fan of thrash metal, but I believe it was quite an appropriate format for this song.
Lance has made a few wow videos over the years, including a custom track for our guild, The Left Hand of Thrall (Saurfang, US).
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-5Tb0zmV8gI& is the one about our guild. (Ignore the bit in the description about how he's "quit playing WoW." He's mostly into PVP on his rogue these days, but still throws mean heals on his priest when called upon.)
We recently had our 3-year guild anniversary, too. We're not hardcore, don't really raid and aren't even level 25. But we are a good bunch of people to play with, and that's what matters most to us. ^.^
"I find it humorous to see folks strolling around with their "Kingslayer" title. I mean, really. Put on some parachute pants and feather your hair into a mullet while you're at it, too."

I agree. I'm not a thrash metal fan myself, but this was well done! The music, the lyrics, the content. Very nice work!

Yea, it's metal and has some influence from the thrash scene, but it's certainly not pure thrash. On the other side it's quite some good metal ;D

Gee, at 10:34 this morning I typed:

Inspiration or psychic resonance?
