Have you ever felt that Wowcrendor was a negative person? That he spewed nothing but loathsome, vile opinions? I certainly think he's sarcastic and probably critical but not negative per se. Of course, the entire WoW community feels like it's on edge right now, due to the lurking elephant in the room (wielding a laser sword).
Wowcrendor made this video to respond to critics who felt he was way too negative. His stance is that being a positive, rainbow-filled person isn't very funny. He used this video to prove it. The painful justice is that I actually thought it was pretty funny. Interested in the wide world of machinima? We have new movies every weekday here on WoW Moviewatch! That world would be just as bad as the one we're in now.
Extremes on either end is not fun.
Being nice all the time, would have it's downside.
Namely people tend to improve from criticism or feedback that they receive which is negative. If people were always so polite and so nice.. it would mean that people weren't being all that truthful. People who need improvements would never see a need to strive, change, or approve as what they were doing would be accepted.
Much as it pains me to admit it, there is occasionally an upside to being a "jerk".
Which is to say that sometimes it's better to tell someone that what they're doing isn't cutting it, nicely, and cleanly, than have people try to avoid that person, or talk behind their back.
Criticism + polite delivery = constructive. It lets a person making an error know what he or she is doing wrong and possibly ideas about how to fix it.
Someone yelling and slinging the insult du jour is not constructive, it's just rude. It lets the person doing the yelling take their anger at their boss, spouse or cat out on someone they "only know online." It does nothing helpful for the person making the mistake.
If the norm is to deliver criticism in a derogatory and loud way, it's not even attention getting...
I could see the Go! Guy as being human. The tauren "Blizzard needs to listen to their paying customers!" guy I could see as a dwarf, complete with bad scottish accent.
Rick Reynolds was a fantastic comedian. He has an HBO special years ago, and doubt these days few know who he is/was. One of the things that he was famous for building his comic routine off of, was the premiss "only the truth is funny."
In that way, this video was infinitely amusing.
And yet, I laugh out loud more frequently as his other videos.
Mostly though, I found myself laughing at myself. Cause I recognize myself in some of the "nicer" actions of these characters.
If the world is full of spice, and you're trying to be sugar .. to them, you're the one who doesn't belong.
The absurdity of that possible reality was very very funny! It seemed like such an alien world that I forgot it was actually supposed to be the WoW universe. :)
Just remember folks... both factions have Trolls!!
There's a time and place for humour. Raids can demand a light touch, sometimes. That said, if it's a question of humour or progression, I'll take the positive efficiency over the funny negativity any time!
That was one of the best WoW videos I've ever seen. I especially enjoyed the facetious suggestion that positivity is not funny. Wowcrendor, your skills are improving tremendously!
As I watched this video I think I might have teared up a bit. This is like, the ideal wow world. But, if it existed, there wouldn't be so many hilarious videos spoofing the dumb things we do (come on, we've all done something incredibly dumb/trollish at least once).
Such a hard decision: Ideal game world, where stuff gets done and people have a great time vs a generally enjoyable game that tends to drive you nuts, but brings great user generated media for a community to enjoy together.

This video is soaked in more greasy sarcasm than a Big Mac that's been deep fried.
I like it.

I want to live in that world.
*sigh*

Positively funny!

I actually ask if I can roll need on stuff.
I really like Wowcrendor's style. I also like that he uses Horde Toons.
I do wonder, though, if I were an alliance player, how I'd feel that he doesn't use them as often?
Eternauta Feb 28th 2012 7:14PM
As someone who has been on both sides, and is currently playing Alliance, I can tell you, it feels.. weird. Not annoying, just.. weird. It's not bad.
But I gotta admit Horde toons make for better comedy. I couldn't picture Billy as a Human or any race other than Orc.
SamLowry Feb 28th 2012 10:29PM
Considering that most of his characters tend to be troubled, lower "t" trolls, or douchebags, I'd say it's fitting that they're Horde. :)

actually, i wish for just one day, everything WOULD be just like that. i am 100% positive it would be more hilarious than Wowcrendor expects.

I am proud to say I am a "It's OK everyone makes mistakes!" player. At least for the first few times.

Wowcrendor is a positively, fabulously funny guy.
