Blue Posts and Other WoW News: New race and class combos not guaranteed

Don't forget if you have a news tip to drop us a line and let us know.
Today's WoW news roundup includes:
Blue posts
Well, we're adding the pandaren and monk in Mists of Pandaria and the monk class will be available to all races save for goblin and worgen, so you could say that, "yes, we're still adding new race/class combos." That said, we want to make sure that when we add things like this that they make sense for the longevity of the game so we can't make any guarantees as to what or how often these will be added into the game. Balancing new classes into the game is a bit more difficult than adding a new race, but there are obviously complexities to both.
I'm not going to go point by point right now, but I do want to reassure you that we're not ignoring PvP. We're definitely aware of the concerns that players have and like much of the current development, are working on many things for the future of World of Warcraft (as a whole) and Mists of Pandaria. With the press tour coming up in March, we can hopefully be able to get you a better look at what we have planned and how we're planning to address things such as the PvP concerns that people have and have been expressing. I'm not going to promise that we'll "fix" everything that everyone has concerns about because that's not something we can ever guarantee, but we will be keeping a close eye on all of the (constructive) feedback that we expect you will have. We also look forward to when we'll be able to get community members into the beta test (when it occurs) to give it a first-hand look as well.

It's too soon for me to go into any specific PvP plans, changes, or time frames as of yet. But we will be.
For those who are falling back to "Next expansion pack will fix it" as a complaint-- The most I can say is that this is the cycle of MMO development. As you also know, we've generally made changes that affect the game as a whole available to anyone regardless of whether they have purchased the new expansion pack or not as well as add content that is available via the expansion. That said though, I'm not making any guarantees of anything at this point in time, but I want the door left open for the possibilities. We'll be doing our best to explain all of this in the near future as I've mentioned.

Troll Paladins... I shall remain patient. Someday. Someday...
EverythingRuned Feb 29th 2012 11:20PM
If trolls can become paladins, their unofficial class name should be 'heathens', as the original friendly zandalari described them...
razion Feb 29th 2012 11:30PM
Trolls have priests, don't they? Just as they have faith in their Loas and practicality in their witch doctor voodoo, they should be just as able to apply such magics into a more direct and vengeful way. Particularly for a race of headhunters, who have a history of wanting vengeance and revenge, I think it's actually fitting.

Trolls have priests, but virtually none of them follow the Holy Light or anything even close. The NPCs (and the ones which show up in lore otherwise) tend to leave you wondering whether the closest in-game class is priest or shaman. Besides, being a paladin is about serving an ideal (draenei serve the Naaru as avatars of the Light, the Order of the Silver Hand and its offshoots serve the Holy Light, the Sunwalkers serve An'she, and the Blood Knights serve Silvermoon); loas aren't, as a rule, served unquestioningly. You make bargains, you appease them, but you don't selflessly sign yourself over to their service. And even if you did, you're more likely to end up like the ZA animal bosses than a paladin.

Troll Paladins? Yes please. Trolls are the least played race in the game and canonically like the most learned. Somewhere there's a Troll Pally in hiding, waiting to train others. I'm not being sarcastic.
RetPallyJil Mar 1st 2012 1:47AM
Oh I dunno. I get called a troll all the time :)

At that point, they might just rename paladins "magical battle priests" and make "paladin" the racial descriptor for human and dwarven magical battle priests.

Gnome Paladin NAO!!!
evoxpisces Mar 1st 2012 10:20AM
Definitely would be cool. Even cooler: Tauren Rogues. Or even Goblin Druids. Blood Elf Shaman. Draenei Warlocks. But none would be cooler than Tauren Rogues. :D
Ametrine Mar 1st 2012 12:05PM
"T-r-o-l-l" is a funny way to spell "Gnome".
Eternauta Mar 2nd 2012 9:50AM
Gnomes are the only race in the game with less than 7 classes to choose from (they only got 6).
And that leaves the Alliance with one race/class combo less than the Horde.
Blizz should add Gnome Paladins or Gnome Hunters to make things equal.
It's a pity that such an interesting race as gnomes has such a few options to choose from.
EverythingRuned Feb 29th 2012 11:18PM
Q: New Race/Class Combos?
A: We will only add new race/class combos when we think it will get people to pay the most additional money, either through extended subscription periods or race transfers.
I guess I can't fault them for being honest.
Noyou Mar 1st 2012 12:02AM
The new race class combos for Cata were FREE. Except for the Worgen and Goblin. Just FYI.
EverythingRuned Mar 1st 2012 1:17AM
Wow, remotely negative comments get downvoted quickly nowadays.
And that's not what I meant, noyou. I meant that they're going to wait to add more race/class combinations when they think it'll do the most for their subscription numbers.
EverythingRuned Mar 1st 2012 1:24AM
@noyou: And actually, now that I think about it, you're completely wrong.
Plenty of people I know paid money to use the new race combinations. I mean, it's chump change in comparison to subscription fees, which is what really matters, but more than a few tauren druids were suddenly neon kitties upon the new combinations unlocking.
I shouldn't split hairs though, since they could've just rerolled from scratch.
Killik Mar 1st 2012 7:31AM
What are you quoting? Did you just make it up?
SR Mar 1st 2012 7:44AM
He's doing this thing called "Shoving words into someone's mouth".
You know, where butthurt people twist and contort what was said to remotely match their butthurt, in a futile effort to gain sympathizers?
I mean, GOSH GOLLY HOW DARE A COMPANY MAKE FINANCIALLY WISE DECISIONS TO ENSURE THEY CONTINUE MAKING MONEY AND THUS CONTINUE THE DEVELOPMENT OF A GAME?!?!?! THAT'S PREPOSTEROUS!!!!!! THEY SHOULD BE A CHARITY SERVICE DESPITE THEIR COLOSSAL UPKEEP COSTS!!!!!!!!
That's what I read when I see people twist words when it comes to Blizzard making more money.
Onyxis Mar 1st 2012 8:36AM
So you said that he was completely wrong...then went on to explain why he was actually right instead.
Yeah you're right, people downrate far too quickly here.
archer75 Mar 1st 2012 9:01AM
Of course they are going to do what makes them money. They are, after all, a business. Businesses don't operate from the goodness of their hearts. They exist to make money.
And it only makes them money if people find value in it and wish to pay. So If they, as a business, want to make money by providing people with something that they want at a price they are willing to pay, what's wrong with that? It's exactly what they are supposed to do!
Kimerz Mar 1st 2012 9:15AM
Up and down rating is based on the value the comment adds to the conversation. Things that aren't true don't add anything, and get downrated. Things that are true can also get downrated. Things like:
The sky is blue.
Roses are red.
Blizzard wants to make money, and so do you to.
Reading your true and obvious comments isn't worth my time.
