Many of you might not remember the trailer at the top of this Breakfast Topic. I remember looking for it a few months ago and just not being able to find it in hard media form, only remembering that it was on one of the Blizzard discs that I had lying around my apartment. It was a futile attempt. However, someone sent me a link to the YouTube version, so I was very excited. To be honest, I don't even remember where I saw it. My best guess would have to be on the Warcraft III disc with all of the cool trailers for upcoming Blizzard games.
What struck me about this video is how much of Warcraft is still here, so many years ago today, than what was originally pitched to us. That orc shaman has the exact same kind of mannerisms and mysticism surrounding him in his few seconds of screen time that it feels like Thrall has in his storyline. It felt fun and prophetic to look back and see the World of Warcraft still relatively the same tonally, even though we've all changed so much since we first saw that video.
Oh, yeah, that's Peter Cullen doing the voiceover. What do you guys think? Would this trailer still sell you on the Warcraft?
I think this came out hella before Vanilla Beta. I remember downloading it on my 33.6 modem and watching it all the time wondering how this could compete with Warcraft 3 which was just about to come out.
I'm actually not quite sure whether it would sell me. Considering I wasn't sold on the game until I started playing the trial, it possibly may not have done. My opinion of the game back before I installed the trial out of sheer boredom was that it was just a childish pastime for nerds who needed to get a life. I have a feeling this trailer, with its portrayal of orcs, would have just backed up that opinion.
On the other hand, I would also have been intrigued by the walking corpses, and landscapes.
I vaguely knew about WoW from word of mouth. I do remember the Toyota commercial where a pick up truck was taking on a dragon. I wasn't sold on it until probably 4-5 days into the free trial, but had I seen this trailer I probably would have rolled a Tauren. I don't know if it would have "sold me" but It would have made me want to check it out.
I don't think I ever saw a trailer for WoW. I just had a nagging friend. I tried the trial 3 times before actually getting the game. Even that was more to do with me finally wearing out on Guild Wars and figuring I'd give it a try.
This trailer probably looked great in it's day, still looks decent, but doesn't really establish much of the world other than "bad guys live here" and even then I'm not sure if we're supposed to be killing them or playing them. :)

It totally would! Just a shame there aren't more of the amazing landscapes of WoW in it, then it would be even better.
Thanks for sharing, I never knew this trailer existed!

So what you're saying is Peter Cullen is a god? I can fully support this notion.
Al Mar 1st 2012 8:56AM
Super-powered Galactic guardian? So that's why he voiced the old Voltron introduction.

Sorry Swifteye, all that did was send me on a massive nostalgia trip. Now I have to dig up my copy of Transformers.

@ Tovin
YES. If we ever get to actually hear/speak to the Titans in WoW, I can only pray Cullen does one of the voices.

I was of the very same opinion. I used to think of WoW as a nerd hobby... and now i have the annual pass and reading WoWInsider daily from the job T_T
