Scrolls of Lore explores potential MoP details

- 4.3 content is not expected to last a full year.
- Focus is definitely on the mortal races, the Horde vs. Alliance conflict, and trying to get back to the feeling of Warcraft: Orcs vs. Humans.
- Outland and Northrend revamps are not coming any time soon. Blizzard wants to fix the timeline issues, but that's not on the top of its lists.
- For lore enthusiasts, a new faction called the Lorewalkers will be introduced, allowing players to travel the world to find and bring back historical artifacts to found a historical archive. The faction will be story- and lore-focused, not a means to grind rep for gear.
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is the next expansion, raising the level cap to 90, introducing a brand new talent system, and bringing forth the long-lost pandaren race to both Horde and Alliance. Check out the trailer and follow us for all the latest MoP news!

If they really want to get back to "Orcs vs Humans" they need to give us the required emotes :
"At your service"
"Job's done!"

The Lorewalkers sounds like so much awesome, I can't even quantify the amount of awesome in a single post.
Grovinofdarkhour Mar 1st 2012 1:18PM
And "historical artifacts" makes it sound like a new driver for archaeology.... possibly exactly what it needs. I sure hope so.

"story- and lore-focused, not a means to grind rep for gear."
so basically you get ****-all for the monumentally ****ing stupid amount of time/effort you spend on your archaeology.
whoopedee-****ing-humpa-****-doo.

Not everything in the game has to be about gear.
You don't get the best gear in the game from fishing, but some people still enjoy it. You don't get the best items in the game from doing Achievements, but people still enjoy them.
That's not to say it has to be boring as hell, but just because YOU don't get gear you can raid in does not mean everyone finds it worthless.

I liked the part where you got all aggressively angry for no reason. That was my favorite.
Killik Mar 1st 2012 1:56PM
I think he's angry because he'd like the game to be nothing but a scrolling series of progressively higher numbers - kind of like the screens in The Matrix. Anything else is ****ing weaksauce. Lore reveals are so ****ing passé.

Really hope the "Lorewalkers" are an Archeology museum of sorts, although I'd rather have it tied to Explorer's Guild/Reliquary.
snarkygoldfish Mar 1st 2012 2:06PM
Agreeing totally!
My draenei is already extremely determined to understand as much as she can about the history and people of the world she now lives in-- much to the chagrin of some people, as she's ALWAYS asking questions about places / things / concepts. She's traveled to the stupidest places just to read rare books.
She's already a Loremaster.... becoming a Lorewalker just sounds that much more awesome.

There sure are a lot of asterisks going on around here.
Knob Mar 1st 2012 3:11PM
I see your asterisk and raise you an obelisk /\.
Nathanyel Mar 1st 2012 3:31PM
Here's to hoping for a "Lorewalker " title :)
CDave Mar 1st 2012 4:56PM
Perhaps we'll see the return of certain immortal Tauren from Northrend?? (he hoped for in vain...)
Grovinofdarkhour Mar 1st 2012 5:08PM
U *** bro?
Blayze Mar 1st 2012 5:20PM
All Archaeology needs is a stacking buff increasing my chance to get a rare every time I don't. Then it won't matter how many Night Elf digsites I have to go through--by the time I get enough Tol'vir fragments together to make yet another sandcastle, that'll mean a 100% chance to get the Claw.

I think this is a meaningful goal, but I think it's just really tough. In Orcs v. Humans, you're either orcs trying to kill humans, or humans trying to kill orcs. In wow, the horde and alliance are killing many common enemies.
I guess what I'm saying is that in a PvE-centric game, it's really difficult to sit there and seethe with hatred for the other faction. Then you can toss in other factors - server faction imbalance, pvp racials, flying mounts, lack of benefits/motivation for open world pvp, instant queues into dungeons.
I just don't see how blizzard can ever get back to a real total war situation between the horde and the alliance, unless they actually design separate PvE leveling paths where all the players are doing are fighting the opposite faction, as opposed to the "greater evils" of old gods, burning legion, evil necromancers, and the like.

Great post.
I just think it's hard to bring back the feeling of the first Warcraft game after they've added so much lore (and retconned even more).
Drakkenfyre Mar 1st 2012 1:35PM
Completely off-topic, but STO has a faction like that. Klingons were, from the beginning, completely PVP. You could not level without doing PVP, as PVP was all that existed for them. PVE did not exist. You had to get a Federation character to level 7 before you could make a Klingon one. Now it's level 25, and while they do have PVE content now, it's far, far behind the other faction, and still lacking.
A dedicated PVP leveling process could work, but it would require balancing out on both sides. On a server with a bias in one side than the other, leveling would be hard. Unless they counted same-faction PVP such as wargames and Arenas, and then you get to the point where it just seems ridiculous to be warring on your own faction when the point of such a system would be to reinforce the war on the other side aspect. (I don't think grinding BG's counts as a method of PVP leveling in that reason.)
I would fully support a PVP-directed leveling as it would mean they would possibily stop adding PVP to PVE questing. I don't want to have to guard the hell out of a quest hub because the guards are low-level, and if the other faction has a higher ratio, the quest givers are dead all the time. I don't want to have to complete PVP objectives when questing in PVE ("Hey, do this quest. Bam, you're now flagged, go capture this area/kill this many opposing faction players to finish this quest.")
