Happy Birthday, Manic! The birthday cake your wife got you is quite epic, indeed. It looks delicious. :)
I think this sentence of the blog is important to note:
Quote:
First of all, please note that we actually aren't making many stat changes compared to the ones we made in Cataclysm.
First of all, please note that we actually aren't making many stat changes compared to the ones we made in Cataclysm.
That doesn't mean nothing is changing with the other stats. But if said changes aren't laid out in Greg's latest blog, chances are the changes aren't as broad in scope.
We'll start digging into the meat of the other stats and how we plan for them to play out in Mists of Pandaria class design soon enough.

Only came here because the headline said cake. Sadly, the cake was a lie. What a surprise.

Those links are not a lie! They are cake.
Have some delicious cake and then let's do some science.

I used to make jokes about the cake being a lie, but then i took an arrow to the knee.
gewalt Mar 2nd 2012 12:18AM
that cake is not a lie
Pyromelter Mar 2nd 2012 12:55AM
lol cyn you just made the best meme joke ever, i think no one can use those memes anymore because that was just the be-all, end-all right there.
Glaras Mar 2nd 2012 1:22AM
Actually, Adam, one of those links *is* a lie, and it's been lying for days. The "Blue Posts" link sends you back to WI's home page, not the posts.

Related Side Note: One of my proudest geek moments this year was at an afternoon meeting where there are usually refreshments. A few folks were commenting that the person who was supposed to provide snacks was not there, and he had claimed to be bringing a fantastic cake.
I couldn't help myself. Moments like this just don't happen.
I casually slid into the conversation, "So, the cake was a lie, huh?"
They frowned, but nodded, and one of them even said "Yeah, I guess the cake's a lie," without even a hint that they knew the meme.
I kept a straight face, but I was giggling like a fool internally for quite a while afterwards.

As I commented on the SWTOR story, it's funny that a game which has been heavily criticized for copying WoW, including it's mistakes, is now early in it's life changing the prices of mounts, reversing the "training" and mount prices. And also retiring a set of original style mounts.
gewalt Mar 2nd 2012 12:19AM
what are you talking about?
Drakkenfyre Mar 2nd 2012 12:32AM
You see this article above?
Go to the bottom of it. You will see a story about SWTOR's enconomy being changed, specifically about mounts being changed.

Is "copying wow" really a criticism? WoW is by far the largest mmo that this world has ever seen, by an order of magnitude. The only people criticizing companies for copying wow are the extreme MMO haters that are still like playing ultima online and EQ1 and anyone who didn't have to grind for 2000 hours to reach level 10 is some sort of noob idiot whippersnapper. These are also the people that complain that wow hardmodes are too easy such that any noob idiot can do it, meanwhile they are sitting at like 5/8 normal modes or something. In other words, internet trolls. Anyone with half a brain can see that wow is really, really frigging cool, and in fact wow's miss-steps over the past year or so have been because blizzard cow-towed to this extreme vocal minority, and now that they've focused back on being more casual-friendly, they've pretty much stopped the subscriber loss. In other words, wow got back to being wow, instead of being some kind of EQ1 type MMO.
I feel like SWTOR gets criticized (and rightly so) for other things that affect the game experience, like spell/ability lag, little to no customizability of the UI, very little to do at endgame. These are all things wow has in spades, and swtor would do well to try to replicate.
I'd be willing to bet that other than a vocal minority, most people won't even really realize that these mount changes have happened.

When people say "copy WoW", they generally tend to mean copy the feeling of WoW during the magical time of, say, Wrath of the Lich King or Burning Crusade, where there was loads of things to do and a world to explore.
They probably don't mean copy and paste large sections of WoW, such as how Warriors play (complete copy paste), how classes such as the Sorceror behave exactly as Elemental Shamans or Affliction Warlocks, or the talent trees, etc etc. Heck, they didn't even look to see if what they were copying from WoW made sense to copy.
I already play WoW. I bought SWTOR to play KOTOR online, not WoW circa 2007. Hence why I didn't renew my SWTOR subscription, I already pay once to play WoW, I don't need to pay again.

Pyro, when I look at their Talent trees, and the Talents are almost word-for-word WoW, needing only an icon change and a name change, that's when I knew the extent they copied WoW was correct.
One of the criticisms is they are copying WoW in it's earlier days, and making the same mistakes. Seeing the Talents, I can see this is right. Talents and mechanics which have already failed before are now in that game.
Stacking Rend, or Bleeds? Those talents are fully in the game. And we are not talking Cataclysm WoW. We are talking Wrath of the Lich King era WoW. All those crappy talents we got rid of because they sucked, and took up room for things which worked better and are more interesting? They are in there. And the fact that they copied one thing so heavily suggests the basics of how those talents work are the same, too.

Ghost Crawler: "First of all, please note that we actually aren’t making many stat changes compared to the ones we made in Cataclysm (“armor penetration -- gone!”). "
Then...
Ghost Crawler: "Spell resistance is gone"
Waitaminute...
That seems kinda like the exact same sorta change... right? Resist fights were big, back in the day, and Spell Resist/Penetration is still big in PvP.
Sweezy Mar 2nd 2012 8:22AM
Further down in his blog post he clarifies and states that there will be some changes. Like you said spell resist/pen is going away but they are basically being consolidated with melee stats.
Spell resist - defense(pvp)
Spell pen - power(pvp)
