Darkmoon Faire achievement progress reset yet again

Remember that big controversy in January when all of the progress people had made toward the big Darkmoon Faire achievements was reset? Remember how it happened again a month later, but we were promised that it would be saved from that point forward? Well, you can probably guess what happened:
Orlyia -- Issue - Darkmoon Faire
Orlyia -- Issue - Darkmoon Faire
February's Darkmoon Faire achievement progress status was cleared prior to the launch of March's faire. Any achievements that were started but not completed have had their criteria reset. Completed achievements are unaffected. We previously announced that this was resolved for this month and going forward, unfortunately, that did not happen and this is still being investigated for a resolution.
The following achievements are most likely impacted:
The following achievements are most likely impacted:
- Darkmoon Defender
- Darkmoon Dungeoneer
- Darkmoon Despoiler
At this point, I'd recommend to everyone still working on these achievements that you save up your artifacts and turn them all in during one Faire, in order to ensure credit. For the goblins among us, however, this means it's still a good gold-making opportunity, so check out our guide to profiting off the Darkmoon Faire.

I am confused why there is the level of uproar that there is over this.
The only people who really care about achievements are completionists to some extent. These same completionists will presumabely be farming the DMF for at least another... 3, I think, months to get all of the mounts and pets. So the only people this REALLY affects will be turning these in every month any way. So no harm done!
Duerma Mar 5th 2012 1:32PM
If it were easy to gather all these items in a single month, then the people who are upset about it would already have it. It's not. It's a pain in the rear. Saying "oh, you'll just be farming for crap anyways, no big" doesn't really work, because getting all 9 at once is either very time consuming or very expensive.
Kuro Mar 5th 2012 12:57PM
I think we need to be Pollyanna about it....
...You were gonna turn in all of those items anyway because you were farming DMF rep and this is only helping to be sure that you don't stray from your turn-ins.. That's it, right?

WoW They actually pulled off a SWTOR moment of whoops! my Bad! Moment. LOL Leasts SWTOR is mostly over that sort of screw ups now.
Pyromelter Mar 5th 2012 1:49PM
No MMO is ever over those sort of screw ups - at least none that I'm aware of.
Drakkenfyre Mar 5th 2012 3:40PM
SWTOR has been out two months, and has had game-breaking bugs.
You think they are going to go for the rest of their life without bugs?

I had a bunch of quest items disappear from my bags. I had the quest for an ornate weapon, yet no item. I recall buying one, and never turning it in. I thought I may have deleted by accident. Could these be linked?
cromahr Mar 5th 2012 2:11PM
They MAY be linked, but chances are you accidentially deleted them, unless Blizz finds out that those quest items actually disappeared in SOME cases.
I had both quest items for quests I was on in my backpack, and an extra ornate weapon (so one for the quest, one still useable to trigger the q) which I will probably put onto the AH, and neither of them disappeared. I also had items/quests like that on 3 or 4 chars, and they all still had them, so unless they disappeared randomly only from some players, you probably deleted them...
krstfrvnhrt Mar 5th 2012 2:10PM
At this rate, they should just make it
"Turn in all of the following artifacts in one visit of the Darkmoon Faire"
That^ would probably save A LOT of people the headaches of redoing the achievement/redoing the coding.
malaika Mar 5th 2012 2:40PM
Achievements are optional content. I learned that the hard way when they removed my (the) "Keymaster". I sprinted to finish it before 4.0. Then they removed the keys. And the achieve.
Phredreeke Mar 5th 2012 2:45PM
I don't see the big deal. Not counting the Treatise they are all fairly affordable outside of the Darkmoon Faire week.
In fact, I'd say the achievement is a nice reminder of what you've turned in that week.
Aevi Mar 5th 2012 2:49PM
It made me mad because I once again spent 3-4k in getting everything but the Treatise. Stupid Treatise.
At least this time the items were super cheap in the AH, including the Treatise. I bought everything (except Soothsayer's Runes, I had 6 in the bank) for under 1000g. The Treatise included.
So now I have the achievement and I don't have to deal with the craziness. And as an added bonus, I have 2 pets and a mount due the resets. Otherwise I'd only have a mount.
durandal Mar 5th 2012 4:37PM
Blizz should give everybody these three achievements and just forget about it.
themightysven Mar 5th 2012 5:21PM
hmm, the character I'm closest on doesn't show the dropped progress on Armory, but I haven't logged in yet this week, should i wait to log in, so that logging in doesn't reset the data?
Ez Mar 5th 2012 5:28PM
Wow i was missing one quest on one of the achieves, i think the Dungeoneer? And it was reset. :((
Shrikesnest Mar 5th 2012 6:43PM
Okay, first off, what the hell, Blizzard? This is way below the standard I've come to expect from you, and I'm not being snarky when I say that. Mistakes can happen to anyone, obviously, but three times in a row? After we've been repeatedly assured that it's fixed this time? This is not the level of quality I should be able to expect from a AAA title. The old MUD I used to play would have been ashamed at something like this.
Second off, I understand that it's a bit much to call for heads to roll over something like this, but I don't understand the people who are just "meh" about this. The entire point of the MMO social contract is that the world is persistent and your progress is permanent. Without that assumption, the entire medium unravels. This is a load-bearing concept, here. If you don't hold the line on this, you're sending the message, "As long as it doesn't really annoy people too much, this sort of thing is fine."
Nobody should lose their job, but I'd really like to see someone from the company at least say, "We know this sucks, and we realize that it's important. Sorry! Our bad." Not that butter-wouldn't-melt Community Handling, "We apologize that this has been an issue for you" crap.
Shrikesnest Mar 5th 2012 6:46PM
...which, of course, actually *did* happen in the last part of the blue post, which I only skimmed.
Would it come off as a joke if I made some sort of statement about how you should be able to expect better of me as a AAA commenter, and that I realize how important the assumption that I'm doing my homework before I spout off is? (For the record, nine times out of ten I don't do *any* research before I say anything, so if you've been foolishly putting a lot of stock in my comments you should stop doing that. I'm just a guy drinking gin and BSing with his buddies at the end of the workday.)
JattTheRogue Mar 5th 2012 7:39PM
"Social" contract? I pay money every month, it's a real damn contract.
arkhan Mar 5th 2012 7:23PM
While I agree that this kind of fuck-up is embarrassing for Blizzard, people are horribly overreacting. Since the latest patches and hotfixes these achievements are trivial to get. My bank is overflowing with Darkmoon artifacts, just by capping my valor doing heroics and raid finder on two characters. And even if you can't manage to find a certain one, it's bound to be on the AH for a reasonable price, unless you're on a horribly underpopulated server.
chester_eats_cheese Mar 5th 2012 8:43PM
ActiBlizz waits for enough ppl to lock in to contracts then release the news that there will be no new content until MoP, yet they keep losing data atm... I get that it's easy to farm the rep again and re get the items but where do we draw the line? I've hit my limits, the LFR is bad enough, in theory it was good but the content is far too watered down, imo lvl 90s will fare far worse than 85s in Cata in the new dungeons because they won't be used to the difficulty. World of Warcraft used to be amazing... not only that, Blizzard used to respect their customers. /unsubsribed
