Blue Posts: Where'd your name come from?

Today's WoW news roundup includes:
Blue posts
This name was inspired by a song from a band I really enjoy, though slightly altered. My actual World of Warcraft character names come from a variety of things; including an instrument, a soccer stadium, a vehicle model, etc. I often find myself taking forever just trying to figure out that perfect name for every new character. :P

Thumbs up if you got at least one character name from Dragon Age.
Shinae Mar 6th 2012 9:00AM
Actually, I named my female mage Wynne long before I had even heard of DragonAge. Of course, I get accused of ripping it off of DA, but I know the truth. I named her after a pirate.
Drakkenfyre Mar 6th 2012 12:25PM
This isn't YouTube.
Don't ask for "thumbs up".
Rob M Mar 6th 2012 12:30AM
My mains name is Lathram, and I used it in Star Wars Galaxies. For galaxies I think I just made it up.
Several other characters kept with the L theme, then some others I named after various mythologies deities. Khons is a healer, as is Aibell, which corresponds to their namesakes.
Then of course there's Wumpus the shaman.
The Wumpus was a goofy purple character on Greg the Bunny on IFC. Oh, Wumpus.

The Wumpus!

I go by pyro irl, so I consider that my character's first name, and I try to find a class-based word for the second part or last name.
Skyrei Mar 6th 2012 1:25AM
Pyro eh? Did we have a troubled youth?
:D Just kiddin.
Pyromelter Mar 6th 2012 3:14AM
Well, yes I did have a troubled childhood, but that has nothing to do with my name. I acquired this name at the age of 27 when I started fire dancing, fire eating, fire breathing, and doing contact fire (that's where you put the fire on your skin).
I still use my birth name professionally, but it feels like I'm pretending to be someone I'm not every time I use that name. When I say "Hi I'm Pyro," that's the real me.
The "melter" part was just because I melt people and bosses playing a fire mage. I've yet to ever get the original "pyro" username on any website or online community. I use different last names for my actual wow toons.
And yes, I am as awesome as I sound ;-)

We are downranking honesty now? Nice to meet you Pyro- Lord of flame ;)
Terrant Mar 6th 2012 11:23AM
Pyro, I'd have thought you'd be named after St. Pyro of Nicomedia, or Pyro was your family name, just like Pyro J. D. Rockefeller IV! :)
murmaiderxx Mar 6th 2012 1:18AM
It's a song about mermaid murder...
murmaiderxx Mar 6th 2012 1:25AM
"It's metal for fish..
Fish don'ts got no good metals to listens to."
by the way, draenei shaman... figured the squidface would go best.
ugoticedbro Mar 6th 2012 8:44AM
I had a warlock named Castratikron for the longest time through wrath ;)
Everclear Mar 6th 2012 1:23AM
A wonderful, wonderful beverage.
SaintStryfe Mar 6th 2012 1:32AM
My main, Wolfieone, is from the comic strip The Wotch (http://www.thewotch.com) - I was the basis for the Samantha Wolf character, so I named her after that. One is just because Woflie was taken. I retconned it to say the "One" is "Oh-nay" - and is her family name.
Pinfire,my hunter, is a type of gun. All of her pets are named after rifle and firearms terminology.
SaintJoan, my Paladin, is named after Saint Joan of Arc. I'm French so it was a natural.
Hamartanean, my Warlock, is named after "Hamar" - the greek word for "Falling short of the Mark", literally, sin.
Sadiefalk, my rogue, is named after the character from the 90's James Robinson "Starman" series.
Lildeathy, my DK, is a joke on the fact she's a gnome - i made up a story that the Lich King called her "Little Death" - so when she broke free, she just shortened it as she revered to her more normal gnomish tendencies.

You're a spit-fire redheaded girl who is super nice and super athletic?
Sweet, learning new things about fellow commenters all the time on this post. With some people's usernames, you can't even tell gender (unless they put a disembodied floating head as their avatar).
Jordan Mar 6th 2012 1:43AM
Final Fantasy 8 characters and guardian forces, all of them.
My rogue is Siren.
My priest is Quistis.
My shammy is Eden.
My mage is Raine.
My pally is Adel.
My Donkey Kong is Ultimecia.
Al Mar 6th 2012 2:09AM
Should have re-arranged them, it'll spell "Square" just to round out the Final Fantasy theme.
Young.jasson Mar 6th 2012 2:09AM
Whitestar = white widow x sensi stat
ern5gd2 Mar 6th 2012 12:22PM
Also, on Jordan's list, rearrange to quarks, lol.
As for mine, I RP'd a draenie male mage named Aliim, he became an enchanter/Tailor as part of his RP ways, not getting into story here, but all my other names in various games sprang from that. Aliimara, Miindara, Kaliid, just to name a few.
