Scroll of Resurrection revamp active, includes free level 80 character

This is just one more way that Blizzard is aggressively attempting to reverse the subscriber bleed that only just recently came to a halt. Lowering the barrier to reentry for returning players will go a long way toward getting those people to check back in, especially if it means those players will get to see the other faction for the very first time. It could very well mean a brand new gaming experience for some of those returning players.
The new Scroll of Resurrection would also explain the level 80 armor sets that were datamined on the patch 4.3 PTR. Boosting a character from level 12 to level 80 wouldn't be all that useful if that character were still using level 12 gear. Receiving a full set of level 80 gear in the mail after your boost would solve that little problem.
We assume you'll also get the spectral mounts included in the aforementioned teasers, possibly as a perk for the one doing the recruiting rather than for the recruited. Images of both of the spectral mounts are below if you're interested in that sort of thing.
Note: The service was live when we began writing this news post, but the service was taken down for maintenance while we were in the process of writing it. We assume it will be active again later this afternoon.

If you cancel the card, Blizz takes away all of the perks (the mount, etc).
snowleopard233 Mar 6th 2012 4:32PM
Seriously. They can keep their horse and panda beta. I want a new level 80 paladin!
Gorgon Mar 6th 2012 4:56PM
Leaning towards it myself, not really a Diablo fan to begin with. Beta washes out and the Charger looks kinda silly, midget legs that flail about.
Minstrel Mar 6th 2012 3:53PM
I wish I could just have the "jump to level 80" (or 85...or 90 later this year) and none of the rest, as a current subscriber. ;)
This seems like a pretty cool service, though, for someone with a friend interested in returning. Definitely gets them back into the game and able to play with their friend quicker, which is pretty much the whole point of a game like WoW.

Meh, even though SWTOR doesn't have the polish of this seven year old MMO, I prefer it because the storytelling is immersive and I just don't feel it like I used to. Still not enough sadly...
bert Mar 6th 2012 3:55PM
What if the friend stopped playing after BC would they get wotlk and cata in the upgrade?
Gorgon Mar 6th 2012 3:55PM
So all these bonuses and perks to get players to return, what about those that never really left? I've had breaks and whatnot but I have a buddy that's played since beta. Blizzard plan on doing loyal, stubborn, players a solid and give them something cool too?
ToyChristopher Mar 6th 2012 4:09PM
And that would make blizzard money how Gorgon? If you really want the rewards you can always open a second account...
Royal Mar 6th 2012 4:14PM
Not happy with a free D3 and a mount for loyal subs?
Sorry but I took the annual pass to be just that.
Infinite Duck Mar 6th 2012 4:39PM
The anual pass isn't so much about customer loyality, but retaining subs and it worked fairly well. If it was a real loyality plan we'd get something that rewarded you for time already played, instead of pre-paying/contracting for another year.
Glaras Mar 6th 2012 4:48PM
You're missing the point. The annual pass was for a year-long uncancelable commitment. The Scroll benefits is just for re-upping. The committment is much less, and the benefits much greater than what the annual pass came with.
Gorgon Mar 6th 2012 4:51PM
Excuse the pun. You're right on the money, Toy. No second accounts for this guy, already did the year thing too, paying for my "bonuses". Might cancel and lose the stuff, get the res perks instead.
Imnick Mar 6th 2012 5:17PM
The benefit from this is greater than the annual pass?
Really?
I didn't see any mention of totally free AAA video games in this offer!
Plainswander Mar 6th 2012 6:21PM
we get:
A horsie
Gauranteed Beta entry
A "free" copy of D3
And I'm betting dollars to doughnuts a jump to lvl 80 is gonna show up in the RMS real soon now.
fez66 Mar 6th 2012 7:12PM
Can we stop pretending the Annual Pass is a loyalty reward? Because it isn't. The Annual Pass is cool and I'm looking forward to D3 for free, but when I signed up for it, it made absolutely ZERO difference how long I'd been signed up for WoW. That's not a loyalty reward.
It'd be cool to get an actual loyalty reward, since non-subscribers are getting all kinds of things. Am I entitled to one? Of course not. But it would be nice. The wireless companies (sort of) figured this out, I hope Bliz does too.
bert Mar 6th 2012 3:58PM
What if my friend quit in BC would he get wotlk and the cata upgrade?
Heleos Mar 6th 2012 4:38PM
Seems like it.
Silversol Mar 6th 2012 9:12PM
"The Scroll’s recipient immediately receives a FREE digital upgrade all the way to World of Warcraft: Cataclysm. Additionally, the Scroll’s receiver can permanently boost one character to level 80 so that they can jump straight into the adventure for their 7 days of FREE game time!
Note: The digital upgrade and level boost will only be available for scrolls sent during the 90-day promotion period. Players who accept a Scroll of Resurrection that was sent after the promotion period ends will still receive 7 days of FREE game time, but will not be eligible for the digital upgrade or level boost."

AROD Mar 6th 2012 3:57PM
imho Blizzard should also implement a scroll of "you never left us" game... like a mount or something... I understand the trying to get players to come back but what about the players that never left?
Gorgon Mar 6th 2012 4:04PM
Right there with ya bud, not really for my sake, but it's a valid curiosity.
