Server issues tonight, SoR likely the culprit

Many people are seeing problems when they try to log into the game or are getting stuck at the loading screen. Others are having authentication issues. Bashiok tweeted:
Due to what I assume is the intense popularity of the new SoR promo, our authentication system is in meltdown. Working on it.
As Bashiok points out, this is likely due to the new Scroll of Resurrection program. Most of these outages normally resolve themselves in a few hours, so sit tight, read the day's blue posts, and all will be well soon enough.
There are pictures of cats after the break if you really need something more.

the downtime is likely linked to correcting the bug where characters that are restored via the SOR and raised to level 80 are getting 999,999 gold...

Speaking of SoR, I could really use one - but I don't know anyone currently playing. What's the best way to proceed?

I was going crazy, but the lovely cat images have calmed me down. Oh you silly cats.

Same problem with Latinamerican realms, even the official forums have problems (same in Australia, for what I read)...
Masarah Mar 7th 2012 1:46AM
Apparently SoR is rather popular. I didn't think it was that compelling.
Faar Mar 7th 2012 3:38AM
Popular or not, according to a discussion thread on MMO Champ, some returning SoR customers have logged in and found a million gold sitting in the bank of their characters, and then been promptly banned by Blizzard. There's enough accounts in the thread of this happening to make the story seem credible enough on the surface at least, along with screencaps and whatnot.
...If true, now that's a welcome back to the game I'm sure these people won't forget...

Cyoot kittehs!

Makes me miss my cat. (Not being on WoW right now, I'd probably be paying him more attention, so these pictures are good reminders. GO PET YOUR PETS, FOLKS.)

i think,.... this new scroll of Resurrection, was created by the goblins. and in their rushed hurry to get it done by blizzards deadline they took out the safety switches and such. and then when the hamsters who power the servers became overloaded by all the people trying to log on, their little hearts exploded. sending the poor lil buggers flying everywhere out of their running wheels. and now some temp is trying to not only keep the hamsters from damaging the servers but trying to find a late night open pet store to replace all the recently deceased hamsters. just my thoughts lol

Thank you for the soothing cat images.

Should note besides them saying authentication is fried. battle.net is what really is toast also. A lot of other blizzard sites survived the melt down.
Teresa Mar 7th 2012 3:07AM
Grats to Blizz to padding their numbers. First get impulsive buyers hooked with the 1 year sub, then hit them again with the scroll of res.
Hope everyone enjoys Dragon Soul for another guaranteed 3 months.
Vitos Mar 7th 2012 4:15AM
I will. I think it'll be at least two months until my guild manages to clear the place, probably more, and beyond that there are a bunch of achievements and other random things I want to be able to do without having to worry about leveling up, getting gear, doing professions etc...
Killik Mar 7th 2012 7:22AM
Oh why must Blizzard trick people into doing things that they enjoy?? Won't somebody think of the humanity??
monotype Mar 7th 2012 4:25AM
For a second, I thought SoR stood for Seal of Righteousness, and all I could think was, "Damn it, what did us derpadins do to break the game _this_ time?"
Pyromelter Mar 7th 2012 8:12AM
dude I had the same exact thought.
Perhaps using the acronym sor is not the right move for this issue.
Killik Mar 7th 2012 9:44AM
I thought the same. Was hoping for something gamebreaking, like that paladin soloing Doomlord Kazzak with Reckoning back at level 60.
viciouspen Mar 7th 2012 5:03AM
Well.
I may disagree with Moderator Kitteh, but by god if I don't respect his integrity.
