This week, I wandered into Karazhan and fought my way through the trash, marveling at the sheer number of green items that dropped -- even a Ritssyn's Lost Pendant for my troubles. I started to get my hopes up, thinking that this could totally be the run that I'd see the silly pony drop. Unfortunately, I messed up -- I killed Midnight before Attumen could hop on his back and start phase 2. I vanished, hoping that would reset things, but I was left with a dead horse and no loot. However, I still wasn't saved to the boss, so I ducked out of the instance, did a quick reset, and dove back in again with fully respawned trash. This time, I waited for Attumen to hop up on Midnight, but I was kicking myself because I was certain that if I hadn't messed up the green-filled run, I'd be riding around on a horse. That was totally the winning run that I screwed up.
Except, apparently, it wasn't. All it took was a reset, and approximately four years after I started randomly farming this stupid pony, he dropped. Now he's mount #143 in my collection. At first, I was filled with a huge sense of relief, and then it was replaced by a sort of empty feeling. After all, the solo trip to Karazhan was a weekly routine that I could count on. I got used to doing it. So ... what now? I have absolutely no idea.
What's the longest you've spent farming a single item? Is there one elusive pet, mount, or other goodie in WoW that still escapes your grasp? What do you do when that long sought-after goal is finally attained? And while we're at it ... what the heck should I farm now?

Headless Horseman's mount. Started first day it was "available",and nothing. Pet wise,the stupid sewer rat.

My friend and I decided to start farming the blue proto drake together and then rolling on it. We farmed for a mere 5 days, and on the 6th day, he went in by himself. Despite the very rare drop chance, it dropped! Grats to him!

I have trouble remembering to farm things. over the years Ive been tempted to go after the same horse.. kaelthas's birdy mount, and his pet.. but after going back out to the island running the dungeon once, I'll just forget to do it for another 3 months.

Rivendare's Steed? Gave up.
Green proto-Drake? Gave up.
Raven Lord? Gave up, for now - but haven't spent much effort on it.
That damn polar bear from the daily quest in Storm Peaks? Gave up - if I'm in the area, I'll do it, but I manage to avoid being there.
Farmed the orange tiger in ZG forever, never got it or the raptor. Been farming the red bug in AQ 40 - no luck there either.
Someday, at level 120 (I'm a disc priest) when I can solo Onyxia, I'll farm her for her sweet drake mount, but I'll probably never get it.
I wonder if I'll ever be able to farm Occulus for that blue drake?
It's weird - if it's a pet, I'll get it. Recipe? I'll get it. Other weird rare item that I'm farming? Mine. But mounts never drop for me, and when they drop in a group, I roll something absurd like a 2.

Still trying to get the camel in Pharaoh's land (sings "Let my people go..."). The figurine has dropped seven times for me, but no luck there. Over the past couple of months, I haven't even gotten the figurine, so I've put this on the back burner.

I've gotten around 30 bogus figurines so far. The weird thing is, I stepped up my game about a month ago and started farming it in ernest (2-3 hours a day, 3-4 days a week) and have actually found way less figurines. I swear, the game knows when you REALLY want something. Meanwhile I see one or two new Camel-Hoarders running around SW every day.

For me, it has to be the raven lord. I don't know how long I've been actively farming it, probably since I could solo the place. But he eludes me. I'm working on 100 mounts, and I was determined to do it without argent tourney mounts or buying the last couple. I have a sparklepony, but only because it was a birthday present. I will have a heart of the aspects, but only after I get the achievement. I'm at 98. The last 2 are accounted for, the grand ice mammoth from sons of hodir (I have the rep, I just need the gold. Which is ironic since it cost the EXACT amount that I *just* handed to my friend for her rogue to get her first pair of daggers toward the legendary. I know she dumped more into my priest over time along the way, so it wasn't a big deal deal. Just funny) and the darkmoon chicken - I won't have enough tickets this month tho. BUT SOOON! By next month I'll have the gold and tix AND 100 mounts.

Aaaah, such is the nature of desire: wanting what you don't have, then - when you do get what you desire - your need shifts away from it, since the need for that which you coveted is gone.
Now then! Go far for Rivendare's mount! (assuming it still exists?) Or the blue proto-drake from Utgarde Pinnacle (I'm working on that one myself)

I totally feel you man! Last night I finally got my 2nd binding for Thunderfury and then after getting all those dam Arcane Crystals I finally got it! I have been farming MC for that for a long time.
Now I just need the Raven Lord's Mount and Attunement's mount!

Baron Rivendare's mount.
I farmed Strath every day on my paladin, brought in guildie alts and power leveled them in my quest for that rassafriggin pony. Those alts went a total of 50 levels in my Strath runs. Finally on the 131'st kill (that's been tracked since beginning of Wrath), it dropped.

i farmed, for years literally, for the damn ZG He-Man tiger
so yes, i find myself hard to 'forgive' blizzard for removing the mount before i got my hands on it without ANY valid reason. they could have easily add those 2 original mounts ON TOP of new ones. but no - instead they replace with a re-used skin and expect it to be counted as a 'worthy replacement'.
sorry - that backfired, so bad
in fact, when comes to mount issues - i have plenty of gripe with blizzard's decision. there was so many cool mounts that removed, some even never get a chance to be 'properly introduced'.
there's a recent blue post reply on the naxx mounts, which goes 'Isn't it a good thing that, some things can stay rare?'
SURE - how about I get the arena mount on MY toon, and keeping every other arena players from ever getting it. hows THAT?

Glad Attumen's mount dropped for you Anne!! (I got lucky on that one and got it our second night in Kara, way back when.. But it's on a character I don't play any longer unfortunately.)
Longest I ever spent was around 3 months for the green proto-drake, every time it became available.

Since Cata started wanted that damn fossil raptor mount. Did arch on and off for the last year or so and finally, FINALLY, got it...THIS MORNING. As in like 20 minutes ago!
Also got the Explorer title last night. My welcome back to WoW XD

i had been farming Strat since BC for the Deathcharger with no luck... until this past Sunday when it FINALLY DROPPED!!!

First off Congrats!!! I started farming this mount after hearing your stories about it. So far im exalted with the violet eye. No mount, but I have gotten the gun from the opera event. So I usually do a clear and get a ton of cloth , greens to sell for transmog purposes and a reputation. But, no mount yet.

Second, I hate you!
Third, I've been trying to get the stupid camel for over a year now. So you could always start circling Uldum searching for mysterious camel figurines. Do it on a toon with mining so at least you make some money at the same time.
