I seem to only get stuff I'm not actively seeking. Like, the first time I stepped into the Vortex Pinnacle ever, as a fresh lvl 83, the drake dropped and I won the roll. I didn't even know there was a mount to get, so there wasn't much of a suspense actually.
But then last week, with another fresh lvl 83 alt, I did the Thrall quest which carries you to Deepholm on a free gryphon ride. Sitting on the gryphon and approaching the temple, all of a sudden my NPC alarm went off: Aeonaxx active. This time, I knew there could be a mount waiting for me. Still, the automated gryphon was expected to need about another 30 seconds to circle the temple before it landed. I wet my pants. I screamed in guild vent. I cursed the gryphon. Never was a ride that long... I flew up to Aeonaxx but hey, he was green? It took me some precious seconds to realize I could jump on him. That's when he turned red. But the adventure wasn't over yet: Specced as a prot warrior still in ilvl 290 Vash'jr greens, I didn't do more then a lousy 3k dps on his back. Aeonaxx had 750 k life. It took me literally ages, in fact several minutes, until he finally dropped down and I sailed to the ground by parachute. When I reached the corpse, there were already my guildies standing around the corpse, waiting for me and applauded when I took the stone drake for a virgin flight.
I only had the same incredible feeling when I won the STV fishing contest.
