Limited edition Arthas statue available for preorder from Sideshow Collectibles

His expansion may be over, but we are far from done with Arthas. Now available for preorder from Sideshow Collectibles, this absolutely gorgeous statue featuring the Lich King himself can be in your greedy hands by the holidays for $349.99. And as a bonus for the Warcraft community, Sideshow has also created an exclusive desktop wallpaper free for download.
Arthas stands at 19 inches tall atop an icy, glacier-blue base, hand-painted and frosted. Since this statue is crafted from polystone and weighs in at approximately 20 pounds, you can be certain of one thing -- this is a statue and definitely not an action figure in any way, shape or form. While preorders are open now, the statue is not estimated to ship until October 2012. If you're looking for a stunning, eye-catching holiday present for your favorite Warcraft-playing friend --or simply want a conversation piece for yourself -- this will easily fit the bill.
Visit Sideshow's official website to see a full gallery of Arthas in all his glory, place a preorder, or get your hands on the exclusive desktop wallpaper.

Sheesh. I was thinking $40 would be expensive. $349?? /pass.

As a working artist I understand the pricing. The time investment often is a consideration when deciding on the price. The artist has to say, "this is how much my time is worth, and this is how long I've worked on this." That Arthas statue is very detailed and awesome-looking, so I can only imagine how much time it took to make it. So, yeah.

Sideshow stuff is ridiculously expensive. I don't know about the quality of them, but the TF2 Heavy statue they had was slightly cheaper. And extra for a "limited" edition of the BLU Heavy with a different pose.

Sideshow does LOTS of collectible statues, not just Warcraft -- check out the Marvel statues on their website, many are just breathtaking. I've had the opportunity to see plenty of their work in person, and believe me, photos just do not do them justice. They're works of art, and they definitely aren't toys.
It's sorta like Franklin Mint for geeks, only higher quality. XD

Arthas is just too damn popular. His story might be over, but his legacy will be around for a long, long time.

If I were rich, I would snap that up in a heartbeat. It is beautiful and Arthas is my favorite villain in the Warcraft Universe.
Alas...I am so very very poor.
Though it makes me happy to see awesome (if too expensive for me!) works of art dedicated to my favorite game. ^^

Anyone have $400 they wouldn't mind sharing? Gates, I know you visit this site!

I'll take a new PC if he's feeling generous ;) Have fun with your statue :p

I've been going back and forth on this. I want it but it's soooo expensive.

I kinda like the Arthas WoW action figure I have on my mantle already and it didn't cost nearly as much as this thing does... 33% of the price you are paying for this is b/c it's from Sideshow.

Where's the gold sink option? I'd drop 500k in a heartbeat.
RetPallyJil Mar 10th 2012 6:53PM
Ha! Yes, they should give you game discounts:
10% off per 10k gold you put down
another 15% if you are exalted with the Argent Dawn and Argent Crusade
(20% if you are exalted champion)

This will go well with my Frostmourne. Payment plan makes it bearable. Sideshow does great work.
Dude Mar 10th 2012 4:28PM
Wonder if this is a hint that Arthas might return as undead?
RetPallyJil Mar 10th 2012 6:55PM
Nah, if he comes back, he's coming back a very embarrassed and repentant human.
Bet you anything that's the big shock ending of that new Jaina book. (And it will be awesome if I'm right!)

Want.
Want so very, very much.

This will be a very limited release, there will be no "premium" format, meaning the statue will be limited to one version, one run. Typically Sideshow produces about 500-100 pieces, so value can skyrocket on the secondary market... or not.
I'd only buy this if you like it and want it, I don't know that I'd speculate on ebay resale value, cause if it stays at or below what you paid, $350 bucks is a lot for doorstop.
Sideshow makes some of the finest pop culture figures/statues in the world, they will do WoW right.
Wonk Mar 10th 2012 8:05PM
I meant to say... 500-1000 pieces.

So much want, yet so little have... :

The artwork and detail is amazing. But there is... I don't know how to describe it. There's just something off. I think it might be the posture that he's in. And no glowing eyes. And Frostmourne just doesn't look quite... right. His armor and cloak may actually be TOO intricate. Where did that gold-colored lining of his armor come from?
Don't get me wrong, I am in complete awe at the artistry and workmanship. It just... doesn't quite look like Arthas, the Lich King to me.
