Poll: Which was your favorite classic WoW 40-man raid?

For me, Blackwing Lair was probably the pinnacle of class WoW raiding. While Naxxramas was exhilarating and bold with its mechanics, Blackwing Lair felt more like storming the castle. The bosses had some great dialog, the scenery was impressive, and there were awesome healing trinkets that I coveted for years. Let's not forget the epic fight with Nefarion at the end where hunter's broke bows, mages polymorphed friends into grubs, and everyone was cloaked in Onyxia's scales.
Which classic WoW raid was your favorite?

TROOF!

Onyxia could, I'm confident, have taken Nefarion in her prime.

Ahn'Qiraj! Giant bug hunting is still awesome to this day. ^.^ Though I still want to ride my super fast red bug everywhere. Hell, I want to paint flames on the side to make it go even faster. :p

Naxxramas!
Scott Mar 13th 2012 3:32PM
Too true. Naxx really had it all. I don't think I'm more proud of any boss kills than the four or five we managed in there before Burning Crusade.
The place just oozed danger, atmosphere and death. It had trash that was harder than some bosses in earlier raids, innovative boss mechanics, and Kel'Thuzad. Seeing a death knight for the first time was just....wow (before it smashed your face in).
Ulduar fans may downvote me for this, but I personally think Naxx40 was the pinnacle of raiding this game has ever (and will ever) seen. I say that also having spent the better part of fix months farming BWL.
I've said it before, but all you really need to know about Naxx40 can be learned from how you got there: one way portal. Once you were in, you weren't coming out.

Well said.
And Naxxramas is the only instance that made me hurt myself. First time I was in there. late one night, I was wearing headphones. Out of nowhere this hideous scream of tormented terror put a spike right through me - I jumped up and demolished my knee on my desk lol

Blackwing Lair was a remarkably good raid.
Several of the bosses had really unique mechanics that really haven't been done quite like that since (Vaelastraz and Nefarian especially cool)
There were giant dragons, a modest amount of trash, the amazingly good looking tier 2, and you got to put a Dragon's head on a giant post afterwards.
Also the 15 minute long boss fight(first time Nefarian was really really long) was pretty epic without getting into crazy town.

I've played since Vanilla, but have yet to step foot into BWL. I am very sadface for this fact. Only did Naxx10/25, and really enjoyed it then. AQ40, only did the first couple bosses.
I really need to finish those old raids.
Tanddori Mar 13th 2012 3:21PM
You will not be disappointed.
AQ40 is especially fun. Bring a friend or two and go get yourself some bug mounts!

Bah. I'm a Wrath baby. 40-man raids, I solo them for transmog gear. Don't really care for any of them.
You have no voting option that recognizes that some of us don't yearn for Mighty Vanilla.
Salculd Mar 13th 2012 3:32PM
Probably since the poll isn't directed at that demographic in the slightest.
Eternauta Mar 13th 2012 4:15PM
I'm a Wrath baby too (actually, late TBC baby), and I also solo them for xmog gear.
But man, when you're all alone in those huge, dark, lava covered halls, you can get a glimpse of what raiding was like in those times. You can really feel the epicness.
I haven't raided since Cata came out, never got past the first bosses of Ulduar or ICC in WotLK, so most of my raiding experience comes from Trial of the Crusader (and Naxx.. but yeah) so maybe I'm not used to large epic raids as opposed to 25 people locked in a single room, maybe that's why I find the old raids so impressive (and Kara too, although it was 10 man).

Well, not putting an option up for people who didn't raid in classic makes the results of the poll inaccurate.
Jimson Mar 13th 2012 6:16PM
"Well, not putting an option up for people who didn't raid in classic makes the results of the poll inaccurate."
I wouldn't say a poll asking people for their opinion of Woodstock (the 60's version) was inaccurate if it did not include people who did not attend, or only saw videos of it.
If you didn't raid in classic, how would you form an opinion of any of the raids?

"Well, not putting an option up for people who didn't raid in classic makes the results of the poll inaccurate."
How so? The poll isn't looking to answer the question of, "How many people raided in Classic?" It's looking to answer the question of, "Out of people who DO have an opinion...what was your favorite classic 40-man raid?"
Not adding an "I don't have an opinion" option doesn't make the results inaccurate.
hisnameismunky Mar 13th 2012 7:47PM
it matters when people who didn't raid classic vote on their favorite anyway

MC Raiders, We Ain't Got No Life!
That song says it all. MC Baby!
Peebers Mar 13th 2012 3:25PM
aq20 and zg arent on the list.
not that either were my fave. id have to say bwl was my fave. we all got so damn sick of MC. for some reason i just never liked aq40. and i got banned pretty early on in naxx. i wouldve hated it anyway no way my rogue would ever get gear over a tank. stupid tokens, stupid rotating roster of useless tanks..rantrantrant.
compared to mc bwl was the first raid to have actual boss mechanics and was much more enjoyable.
