The Queue: WTB more warlocks

I was reading this thread over on the official forums, and while I don't agree with everything said in it, I can agree with the conclusion: There need to be more warlocks.
Maybe WoW Insider should have a warlock awareness week or something. We'll promote safe healthstone sharing or proper DoT'ing or something like that.
Maymer asked:
What do YOU all hope will be announced/shown/demonstrated through the art of interpretive dance at tomorrow's press release?
Do you want to see the new faction mounts, dance, zone details?
Maybe more on how the monk class will work, or greater detail on the talent calculator?
I personally am hoping they reveal updated character models for all the Pre-Cata races myself. That, along with a date for beta invites (the sooner the better), and showing us some of the new mounts (come on flying nimbus cloud!)
My bets are as follows:
- New character models. I just don't see how Blizzard cannot do this, especially given the moves of the monk class.
- Beta release. It'll probably just happen.
- Profession information.
- Diablo 3 release date tossed in for good measure.
- Lots of the first tier of raiding information.
- Details on changes to the Raid Finder and Dungeon Finder. I have my fingers crossed for old-raid Raid Finders.
I polished my banhammer.
It's shiny and ready for justice.
Jeff asked:
Do you think there will ever be a change to rested xp gains and maximums? I can burn through max rested XP at level 65 in about 1.5 dungeons with heirlooms. I wouldn't care if they left it alone in the 1-60 content but by the time I get to outland and northrend I just want to get to 80.
It's certainly possible, but I don't think that it's something the majority of players would feel a benefit from. Those of us who are able to burn through rested XP do so because we play hard-core, compared to other players who don't spend six hours grinding out dungeons in a weekend, etc. ...
Rested XP is also just a nice little boost to get you moving again after being away for a long time and isn't really intended to be a leveling mechanic, even though it's used that way by many players (especially those reading this post).
It's also harder to burn through rested XP at the higher levels, and it's not really super compelling after about 83 or so. In Cataclysm's last five levels, the way to level is through questing, and rested XP doesn't change the amount of quest XP.
Klausse asked:
Any word on minimum/preferred system requirements for Mists, or will they be determined by what Blizzard sees as people begin beta testing? Do you think we'll hear more about this in the Press Event?
I might be in need of an upgrade before it launches, so the more advance notice, the better!
I doubt we'll hear the minimum specs until we're really close to launch. That being said ... this is WoW we're talking about. If your computer can run Cataclysm, it's going to be able to run MoP. Blizzard isn't just going to dump a large portion of its playerbase to upgrade the graphics. What we will probably see are more ultra-like settings and things like that, so newer machines can take advantage of newer technology. But as for exactly what those things will be, we'll have to wait and see.

What sort of sites provide leaked info to those who are into that sort of thing?
Nathanyel Mar 13th 2012 11:33AM
Yes, which fan/news sites aren't on the Press Tour and thus not under the NDA, and would be happy to post leaks? :)
Cephas Mar 13th 2012 11:36AM
If Adam said he's going to ban people who link to leaks, do you really expect him to allow people to discuss where to look for leaks? Telling you what website to go to is basically just a less convenient form of linking to it.
Jason Mar 13th 2012 12:24PM
Sorry, my intent was to give those people a segway offsite to fewer and discuss, as opposed to staying at WoW Insider and discussing what they do know. I want leaks but I wouldn't post them here or anywhere unwelcome.
Matthew Mar 13th 2012 12:28PM
I think that is a valid question. Adam is upholding Wowinsider's integrity. What other readers post doesn't change the integrity of wowinsider (hateful speech notwithstanding)
Adam Holisky Mar 13th 2012 12:37PM
Linking to such things would result in deletion/banning as well. Let's just not do this, k?

*walks into police station* "Hey guys, I know it's frowned on in here, but could you tell me some other places I could go to buy some meth?"

So THAT'S what I've been doing wrong...
Ok, so, I guess I need to go to the local DEA office instead. That'll work better, right?

Judging by the Breakfast topic, Warlocks are very misunderstood as a class. It was sad to read.

Not if you're a mage!

I personally think that the reason people roll a warlock is the dark and evil aesthetic, and then they are disappointed by the very slow game-play at low level. I know more than one person that loves the concept of Warlock characters (because they love to be evil) but were so put off by the play style that they no longer play WoW.
clundgren Mar 13th 2012 11:48AM
Most people just don't want to play a creepy demon buddy as their main character. I don't see warlocks ever being super popular because of that aesthetic.
They've been a top tier class, intermittently OP, since launch. They have been one of the essential arena classes for all of Cata. They always have at least one spec at the top of the raid charts. But for all that, they've always been unpopular.
Paladins, on the other hand, have always been a famously troubled class, ret in particular, but they have always been a player favorite. Go figure.
Folks just wanna play the good guy.
evoxpisces Mar 13th 2012 11:49AM
As a 'Lock main it was sad to read but I think most people don't give the class enough chance to shine, they roll one, try it, don't like it, and never try it again, not giving it enough time to grow on them. I agree the class is an acquired taste. I didn't like them at first, but I gave them a chance, as I did to all classes, and it really grew on me and became my main.
There should be a "/Hug A Warlock Day"
Peebers Mar 13th 2012 11:55AM
I created a warlock last night. Cast 3 shadowbolts and deleted it.
Although I did have a lvl20 summoning bitch, in vanilla, parked out in feralas waiting for nightmare dragons to spawn.
brian Mar 13th 2012 12:03PM
It makes me happy that I revived my inactive account and was able to start my lok at level 80 :)
brian Mar 13th 2012 12:06PM
People may like playing the good guy more than the bad but there are still tons of deathknights

DKs are evil *and* popular. If Warlocks had an intro like Death Knights they'd be popular too. A chance to be properly evil, then seek redemption as some sort of spiky anti-hero.

"Warlocks are very misunderstood as a class."
Yeah, I was in that camp for a while. I started a 'lock in Wrath, and after half an hour, my impression was, "Oh. It's like a mage with a pet." (Stop grinding your teeth, guys; it gets better.) So I put him on the shelf for a while, and eventually deleted him.
Recently, though, I started a Worgen warlock, and the Worgen storyline pretty much requires you to play through to level 15. After that came Darkshore and Ashenvale, which kept me moving through enough fresh content to judge the Warlock on its own merits. That made a huge difference. Warlocks are actually pretty interesting to play once you've gotten over the initial boring part. If you're capable of managing DPS spells, Banes (curses), crowd control, and your pet, all at the same time, you can do a heckuva lot of damage.

I actually found leveling my paladin to be a lot less exciting back in the day... Then again, I leveled as prot partially before the Dungeon Finder (My pally was around level 40 when it came out) so I spent those super early levels questing... And by questing, I mean attacking a mob for a quest, realizing I've used all my offensive abilities and they were then ALL on cooldown, then getting bored and minimizing the game as I leave my pally to auto-attack the mob to death.
It didn't help that my pally was one of those alts that I played for a little bit, let sit for months, played for a bit again, let sit, etc, since Pallys went through a LOT of major overhauls during those times, so each time I went back to my pally it was like learning a new class...
