Another Mists daily screenshot appears on WoW community site
Blizzard has released yet another picture from Mists of Pandaria featuring a new tauren model with yak-like features. Could this be our first look at a new race of tauren much like the taunka from Wrath of the Lich King, or even a look at a brand new tauren model? Only time will tell.
For those of you looking at every pixel of the image, notice the new boot, belt, and legplate models on the tauren as well as the new architecture and environments. Check out a larger version of the picture for increased detail.
World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria is the next expansion, raising the level cap to 90, introducing a brand new talent system, and bringing forth the long-lost pandaren race to both Horde and Alliance. Check out the trailer and follow us for all the latest MoP news!

I find his grim stare rather mooving.
Pyromelter Mar 14th 2012 4:45PM
Oh, we're gonna play that game are we? Well then...
Those guards will really beef up security in Pandaria.
Jamie Mar 14th 2012 4:51PM
Any ox-cuse for a pun, eh zinckiwi?

I'm friesian this discussion in its tracks.
Helston Mar 14th 2012 5:20PM
Gee, why do you always have to milk these things for all they're worth?
Ullaana Mar 14th 2012 5:32PM
Okay folks, this is getting udderly ridiculous.
Queen Anthai Mar 15th 2012 12:24AM
No need to have a cow about it.

Personally I think it's a load of bull
Cobryn Mar 14th 2012 2:51PM
Sweet Jebus!
Soulestream Mar 14th 2012 2:45PM
I would re-roll Tauren in a minute if that was a character model.
Noyou Mar 14th 2012 7:15PM
Maybe, just maybe, it will be a skin option in Mists. It's got .000001% chance but it's still a chance.
Scunosi Mar 14th 2012 7:39PM
I actually wouldn't, That guy up there looks nothing like the peaceful, nature-loving Tauren I've grown to love; he looks like a mad, hairy Minotaur. He'd be fine for a skin, sure, but that huge honkin' nose just looks cartoonish and I'd hate for all Tauren to look like that.
If anything I'd say it's a new Taunka model, since he is using a Horde weapon alongside what looks to be an Orc guard, or it's a new race of Yak-men similar to the Taunka that I guess...teamed up with the Horde, just like the Taunka. :I

I actually agree with Soulestream, for the reason you just mentioned. HE LOOKS LIKE A MINOTAUR. Honestly, I find the current Tauren model a bit too... boring. Sorry!

I'm thinking it might be a sha/old-god-influenced Shu'halo. If you've read the lore: "As the children of the earth roamed the fields of dawn, they harkened to dark whispers from deep beneath the world. The whispers told the children of the arts of war and deceit. Many of the Shu'halo fell under the shadow's sway and embraced the ways of malice and wickedness. They turned upon their pure brethren and left their innocence to drift upon the plains. "
The red eyes may even lend credence to this claim. The heavy use of skulls of and spikes is also not a common thing in regular Shu'halo lifestyle, nor is it akin to Taunka design. However, we do see two common recurring element in all 3: smaller, hut-like structures, typically indicative of a semi-permanent camp/village; as well as the three-sailed grain mill. This difference in design suggests these two pictured to be of the southern, potentially corrupted Tauren.
If my theory holds true, I would LOVE to see a "council of the three war-totems or something akin to a summit where we all decide to go on a mad-cow rampage and become our own faction of warstomping fun. I kid, I kid.
On another note, check out that HUGE skull! Looks like these guys get pretty large...

My hope has always been that we'd be able to play subspecies-- e.g. taunka for tauren, mag'har or dragonmaw for orcs, wildhammer for dwarves etc.-- that would have cosmetic differences from the regular model.
Stella Mar 14th 2012 2:45PM
Yakren!
Looking forward to Trollren.
RGSmith Mar 14th 2012 2:47PM
Two things
1. This def not an updated Tauren. It is totally a yak person. Like cousin of the taunka and taurens. Plus their buildings are very savage looking.
2. This could be a hint we are not getting new models. Aside from the cool fur he appears to have the current tauren skeleton.
I hope i'm wrong.
Snuzzle Mar 14th 2012 4:24PM
I agree, this is definitely a yak-person. Far too hairy to be a new tauren model.
Kind of disappointing that they're creating such breathtaking models for NPCs while our poor tauren brethren are stagnating. :(
Tfish92 Mar 14th 2012 5:55PM
I don't see how it's a hint we're not getting new character models.
It's been said before that the new character models wouldn't be drastically different than what we already have for fear of making everyone who is accustomed to the way their character looks angry. The skeleton structure is still going to look identical, it's just going to have a wider range of motion, and the characters themselves will have a few more polygons.
