I think people are misreading Temporal Shield. Last I read, it didn't absorb anything, it just undid whatever damage you took during it's window over the 6 seconds following it's expiration. Example: Ultraxion: Pop it, his random damage hits you, you lose health, but then get that health lost back as a 6-second HoT. Whereas, if you pop it instead of Heroic Will on Hour of Twilight, you take the damage and die.

You can fix that hole with Cauterize, though. And the Temporal Shield will heal back most of the damage Cauterize does, too.
