The Queue: Thin Mint milkshakes

Big Gay Ice Cream is making Thin Mint milkshakes today, so if you're in the tri-state area, you probably want to get there early. You can still fly cross-country and make it here before the end of the day.
I'm running The Queue today because Alex is in California for some reason.
yous95 asked:
Do you think it's possible that Thrall's unborn child has some kind of right to Horde leadership and that it might present a future (I'm talking way in the future) threat to Garrosh's leadership (assuming that Garrosh is still there by the time the child is of age)? I know it's a bit out there, but I'm so curious as to the purpose of Thrall's future child lore-wise.
That's one direction Thrall's child could go, but I don't think the new Horde leadership works that way at all. It's not about succession but about leadership, accountability, personality, and strength. Garrosh is warchief for a lot of reasons, not least of which is Thrall's putting him in charge. Garrosh also by all accounts UPDATE: didn't win the Mok'gora fight against Thrall before being interrupted by the Lich King's attack on Orgrimmar, so who knows?
Honestly, though, I think Thrall's child is not the beginning of a new story for a new character but the end of an arc for Thrall. Thrall's passion to be a father and meet someone and get away from the people and culture he created and was burdened by is manifested through his son, everything Thrall wants an orc to be, born outside the old Horde and within the new one.
Plus, that kid has years to go before he's grown up. Personally, I hope he's just some better-than-average kid. Maybe he's a mathlete.
Xues asked:
What do you think they are going to do with Mass Res? Are they going to keep it at guild level 25 or move it back?
Also, do you think they'll do cauldron's differently this time? As a alchemist I only make flasks to make cauldrons, so there's not much profit left in it.
Mass Resurrection will most likely stay the level 25 guild reward, since level 25 is still a challenge for many groups out there. Blizzard has said that it is adding new guild levels and rewards with the next expansion, which is expected, welcome, and fun. Guild rewards can be anything, really, so Blizzard has a lot to play with in terms of compelling rewards for guilds making it to the cap.
As for cauldrons, I feel like the BoA change to make passing cauldrons between alchemy alts and their raid counterparts solidified the cauldron system as the one Blizzard will move forward with. While it is still somewhat of a feat to put together the necessary number of cauldrons for heavy raiding, the difficulty is offset by the amount of buff you actually get, especially when you tack on the guild perks, time extensions, and bang for your buck in terms of numbers. Have there been many complaints about the Cataclysm cauldron system, or is it relatively accepted?
We might even see some new guild perks that expand on cauldrons some more, adding functionality or reducing their cost somehow. At this point, it's wait and see.
Saeadame asked:
So, the GM (well, now ex-GM) of my guild logs on yesterday, removes 400,000 gold from the guild bank, passes GM to someone else and then leaves.
/sigh. Don't think there's anything to be done, but it was such a dick move.
No joke -- submit a ticket. Blizzard takes these things seriously! Drakkenfyre in the comments makes some good points about making your case:
Submit a ticket.
While everything in the guild bank is considered property of the guild leader, if the items were clearly from other members, and the guild leader swipes stuff from the bank then leave, Blizzard HAS been known to action them for that, and restore the items.
If the gold was pooled from multiple people in the guild, mention that in your ticket. At worst they say no, at best, you get the gold back.

Q for the Queue:
I recently finished questing in South Barrens and Marshmallow Swamp... >.> (Yes, I know, Dustwallow Marsh. In my younger days in WoW I kept forgetting the name and calling it Marshmallow Swamp) ... we're given the following story line: go to South Barrens and assist *Theramore* forces in their military actions against the Horde. This includes the sack of Taurajo (and later on finding out the guy who did it was hanged). There's a lot of pithy para-military jargon swung about but it is clear that the forces there are bent on securing a foothold and driving back the Horde with extreme prejudice if needs be. And the Alliance forces are not wearing Varian Wrynn's tabard, they're wearing Jaina's. I had assumed (silly me) that the tabards would have been Stormwind's Lion and that Jaina was essentially conscripted into supporting the effort.
We are then sent to Dustwallow, and one of the first quests there is to stop Agitators. Yes, the Agitator quest predates Cata, but still, the point of the quest chain is to stop the people who are arguing *for* fighting with the Horde.
While this is going on, and you're somewhat following the surviving pre-Cata, post Onyxia quest chains, you're also in a Theramore that has a ton of Alliance war machines (no wonder the Horde will choose to attack it). There is, to my knowledge, nothing that explains why Jaina is both spearheading military actions against the Horde in South Barrens and acting as a stronghold for those aggressions AND holding the line on her stance of peaceful co-existence. I don't see any power-plays between herself and anyone in Theramore.
I went to do a little research, and KYL did cover the need to sack Theramore, but I don't see an explanation anywhere as to why Jaina would personally invest in something she heretofore would have been strongly opposed to.
There's another bit of dialog that is really confusing as well - when you go through the Algaz quest line, Jaina's parting words speak to Varian Wrynn's ruthlessness, but almost as if she supports him and is a loyal supporter. And this was a woman who, by some accounts, betrayed her own father because of his militaristic mindset against the Horde.
I get that there is great story potential with the sacking of Theramore - I just don't understand what's going on right now, especially since Blizzard could have cleaned up the dialog a bit to explain the discrepancy between Theramore's behavior in South Barrens and its behavior at home. Or have some kind of military leader who commandeered Theramore or even a quest chain that exposes how Wrynn took control of Jaina's city.
The quest flow seems completely out of character for Jaina and is disjointed between South Barrens and Theramore - as if you're seeing the story backwards.

@CapnSkillet Please attack the politically-correct strawman some more. Grr. I hear the muslims want to ban Christmas for our kids!

Q for the Queue. The heroic versions of Wrath dungeons dropped an epic piece of gear along with the blue pieces. That was a really nice incentive to continue running the "old" heroics when the frozen halls came out. Why did they abandon that extra piece at the end of the dungeon? Was it part of Wrath's gear over inflation?

Comment system is garbage.
In reply to Lipstick on page 4:
@Lipstick
The beauty of a guild vault is, without leveling the guild at all, you have 98 slots per tab, 6 tabs, for about 5000 gold I think it is all told. That's 588 slots, 588 stacks of anything you want, and you can organize it. A "guild" can exist as very expensive personal storage space, if you so desire. Or, you can max out all your bag slots with 26 slot bags, and have 286 slots (plus your 16 slot backpack). Or get profession bags, for 396 slots plus backpack. That's way more than a lot of people need or can use. If you need even MORE storage space, you can use your mailbox, 50 mails at a time, 12 attachments per mail (600), and that's what you can actually see at once. I don't know of an actual limit to the number of mails you can have in a mailbox. So without a personal guild vault (that is, prior to Cataclysm), people could just bounce mail between 2 alts every 59 days without it getting deleted.
So really, what a personal guild vault gets you is an extra 588+ slots of storage with some basic organizing and searching, as well as a place to stash gold you don't want to keep on your character. It makes people happy, and it's a decent gold sink.
Keep in mind that the people that have guild vaults for their personal use tend to be the ones that keep the economy on the server humming along, buying and selling in bulk, generally keeping supplies steady and prices relatively low on many common items.
The people you should be angry at are the bots and hackers, the ones that exploit the game environment to make raw materials from nothing, duping items. By doing this and mass-listing their duped/hacked materials (for example elementium ore, queen's garnets, essences of destruction), they crash the economy. Plus, the gold they make from their sales is sold for real money, part of the same real-life economy that criminals have their hands in, stealing accounts, with links to organized crime, as well as forced labor (for example, Chinese hard labor prisoners being put to work farming instead of sleeping, as we read a few months ago).
People with their own vaults are good, not bad. :)

As an engineer/enchater I'd love to see new blueprint for a "Process-o-matic". We could build a box that DE's/Mills/Prospects/ etc up to 12 items at a time (just picking the mailbox limit for grins sake). It would give engineering a useful item to sell, as well save a LOT of tedium.

Okay, so I'm posting this here because I don't really know where else to go for an answer. Today I checked my email and found an invitation to try The Old Republic free for 7 days for being "a dedicated member of the Star Wars™: The Old Republic™ community." I've been itching to try it, so this appeals to me, but I don't know if it's legit. Thoughts?

Don't click on any links!
If it's not phishing spam, you should be able to use your usual link to SW:TOR community and find mention of the promo, or a place to enter a promo code, or on the SW:TOR game site if it's separate. From general experience, there might be at most a 5% chance that this is real. Sorry.

Question for the Queue: What is one word that can really describe the MoP Press Event?
Sinthar Mar 15th 2012 9:00AM
Secretive?
Sinthar Mar 15th 2012 9:08AM
Ok a quick check list to follow
1) have you already got a account with them that has been inactive for a while?
2) Does the link have the same web address when hovered over - or is it a different one - slightly mis spelt etc?
3) did you find the mail in your junk filter
If any of these questions are answered by 'No' Then its DEFINATELY a phishing mail
However the converse is NOT true (ie it still can be a dodgy email).
Best advice is above - use google, go directly to the genuine site, log in, check for messages etc you can access there. If there is no mention of the 'special offer' its probably fake.
I get these types of mails all the time tbh. Ones for runescape, SW:TOR, Wow and more. I find it rather amusing mostly, cos I DO NOT have my game account(s) on the same email address I use for emails, signing up etc.
